Von Fauster
First, let me get this out of the way: I am absolutely loving this game. Right on BTS. Job well, well done. However, one thing I didn't count on was my own ignorance. I have quickly discovered that there are a bunch of tanks I know nothing about. For example: I'm playing "Ambush!" right now (great scenario by the way Wild Bill), and I'm finding 1)the Crusader seems to be a rather whimpy tank and 2) Both the Crusader MkII CS and the Valentine II seem very prone to Gun Damage. Is this reasonably realistic, or just a quirk of the game engine? I honestly don't know. Anybody out there familiar with these tanks? Thanks!
Stalin's Organ
If you go to page 2 of hte 2pdr effectiveness thread at the top there's a web site link to hte official NZ History of WW2 in hte desert for the Crusader campaign. If you look through the various other chapters at that site there are bucketloads of examples of tanks withdrawing from combat due to gun damage - indeed it's been generally seen as something that should be rare, but my reading is that it was very common. I'll see if I can find the particular article to make it a bit easier.
Stalin's Organ
Found it - have a look at http://www.nzetc.org/etexts/WH2Tobr/c11.html Here's some extracts: "Men of C and D Companies soon saw for themselves what the German anti-tank guns could do to the heavily armoured I tanks, not only in terms of ugly holes and blazing interiors but in gun barrels bent into odd shapes or in one case shot off altogether, so that the turret looked like a face without a nose." and "and when Veale ordered them to rally at 1.10 p.m. only four tanks came back. Of these there was Veale's tank with a ‘holed fuel tank’, another with a 2-pounder jammed and a gunner wounded, a third with a wounded commander and badly damaged suspension, and the fourth with ‘front idler wheel buckled’."
