Aside from the logistical issues that aren't addressed by a CM like game (ammunition resupply, movement of wounded and prisoners to the rear, etc.), the basic problem - of having one omniscient player - will never go away.Well, we can't do it with what we have now. But I don't think we have the perfect company level game! I don't think that the perfect company level game has rigid one minute turns and total control of every unit down to tank and fire team at all times. Change some of those parameters and different possibilities open up. Who says a future CM can't address issues like resupply? The problem of the omnicient player is something I believe BFC has thought a lot about, with all the talk of Borg spotting. Lots of rules and mechanisms, such as command delays, fixed units, individual unit spotting, new limitations which simulate information sharing between units, etc can go a long way to limiting this problem, even though the player still has total information.
JasonC
And you expect CM to be the answer to anything you want to simulate? Sorry, that is silly. Good battalion scale games - http://www.gamesinabox.com/roadstoleningrad.html http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/8887 If you must have a platoon scale system - http://www.gamesinabox.com/panzergrensys.html As for company level, as discussed in another thread it is underserved. I've seen it done reasonably well for Nam, but really it is simulating the scale battalion level operational games typically do. In Nam that just meant companies instead. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/7994 The world is not confined to CM...
