General Lee
What exactly is the use for radio cars? Iv'e heard that they can command vehicle platoons that have had thier commander scratched but when i move a car near the uncommanded or red units they do no such thing. Any one know what they are all about?
Le Tondu
Good question. While you can have platoon, company, and battalion HQs with infantry, I feel that they "dropped the ball" by only allowing platoon HQs for vehicles. Maybe the company commander rode inside one of those radio cars. Who knows for sure?
MikeT
I just looked one of my books and they were issued to signals troops at HQ level for regiments, brigades, and divisions. They provided medium and long range communications alllowing swift and reliable comms even under enemy fire. Tactically far ranging ACs were the eyes and ears of the fast moving armored units. These radio cars would maintain comms between the ACs and higher headquarters. They would find the enemy, tell the radio cars, the radio cars would let the Colonels and Generals know.
