French fleet and Vichy Fleet in SC

What makes the french fleet go to the allies and when they do why does it seem that they all go free french/allied. Damage, position on board, also it seems unlikely that when all 4 go free french into allied hands, when and if ger/It attack vichy where do the 2 fleet units come from that are now in Vichy territory ..?

That make 6 total 10 factor fleets and compared to the british at start forces of 8 10 factor fleets..

seems very strange that the reason the germans let the french go vichy was so they would have a country and government and that the fleet did not fall into allied hands ....?

Thoughts

The british took care so the french fleet would not fell into germanies hands after France surrendered. In real history, in June 1940 two fr battleships were in commonwealth harbors, one in alexandria, two battleships and two heavy cruisers in Mers El Kebir near Oran, and the Richelieu in Dakar. Her sistership, the Jean Bart (not yet full ready for action) had left its Dock at St. Nazaire one day before german troops arrived and went to Casablanca. Vice Admiral Sir James Somerville, commander of the Force H at Gibraltar (Hood, two battlecruisers and a carrier) skirmished with the vichy fleet at oran after an ultimatum elapsed to turn it over, most vichy fr ships were heavily damaged or run aground. Freefrench Force M under Gen de Gaulle operated against the vichy ships in Dakar and took over the rest of french-westafrica. so far by now

Yep I understand all that ... means that the UK had to attack these ports.. fleets .. Oran and Mers .. i take this to mean that the fleets were free french and not allied ... they were definetly not co-ordinating in any strategy

Allied attacks were met with the escape of the remnants .. namely the BC Strasbourg and CVL Comm Teste sailed to Toulon w other units

the other units were sunk .. BB BC ... goes to show you that out of how many ships .. not many were under allied command

the 2 best BB Rich and Jean were attacked again and damaged, could not be repaired.

production was nil for Vichy

not the 3 territories .. alg syr and metro .. they should not start with full production if attacked ... they should still follow the game

I dont think that if you vichy france and then the next turn attack, they should have the possibility of even increasing their fleet .. also if the ports are going to remain french so to speak ...

why do they not revert to the game status of being conquered ... starting off at 0 and then recouping their status as ports for supply and trans ..

this would mean any fleet in the port remain there .. especially damaged units

algeria is taken by Italy before france is conquered .. the Italians should stay in place.. not go back to tripoli

seems strange the way ports are placed .. dak and mers are not on board ... yet

other units were totally anti-brit and sailed to either Vichy ports or interned in the US .. later after diplomatic relations prevailed

still they were not all allied and even if they are the 2 Vichy fleets that come on are the only fleet builds where the keels were laid before the start of the war ... only fleet reinforcements in the game

seems strange that its detrimental for ger to vichy france .. plunder aside .. If the french only get supply from their ports then sooner or later if you own them all ... then where do they draw supply from ...

Russia does not even draw supply as well smile.gif
