  1. Great work with the map, but unfortunately the download link is not working. Any update?
  2. So I see this thread is about wwII campaign yes. Nonetheless in the battlefront sc wwI section Map Viewer the issue I adressed is just simply there, thats why I even speak out on this. That means Kattowitz with East-Upper Silesia is not allotted to Germany in this timeline where it should be in accordance with RL.
  3. I'm on the verge of purchasing strat comm wwI which looks really neat and is a great product for sure. But please, Kattowitz/Kattowice (important industrial settlement in Silesia) was Prussian/Imperial German until Versailles, please correct that!
  4. The straits of the dinarides unfortunately are unpassable for the axis as long as turkey isnt convinced to join. So theres no way to launch an amphibious operation against the eastern shore of black sea then. In fact, the turkish leadership allowed the dinarides to be passed by german navy until the crimea was lost. About Iraq: they will only join your alliance the hard way, so move out soldier !
  5. Great to see you wargamers discuss this subject with lots of knowledge about historical coherences. By the end of Oct 1942 Montgomery deployed the famous 1000 barrels of cannon against Rommels positions at El Alamein in Northern Africa. Before Sevastopol, Manstein deployed even 300 more. Including rocket launcher regiments with flame-oil-grenades. Just from one single WerferRegt, (WerferRgt 70), 334 grenades were fired against the russian fortifications per second. Along with the traditional artillery, that knocked on the fortress walls there were 3 specific giants: The Gamma-Mortar (42,7cm), the Mortar Karl (61,5cm also named Thor) and the railroad gun Dora (80cm). None of them really was the artillerisitc nonplusultra. Somehow over-dimensionized the useful effect became doubtful. After all, one single shot from Dora destroyed a russian munition depot at the Sewernaja-Bay of Sevastopol, which lay 30 metres under ground!
  6. Yep, where are the commonwealth troops in SC. About foreign volunteers fighting against bolshevism i also opened a topic some 50 pages ago! Ok, you can name your elite formations smth like VIKING Tank Group or NORDLAND, but its still missing right
  7. Both possibilities seem very promising to me, that one with higher mpp costs for every new land, air etc unit and the limitation rule. Yep Jersey, the pros and contras for this have already been debated in depth. I think it might bring up the claim for new units in different scale. Why we have armies and corps, but no air corps or 'Fliegerkorps' , we got tank groups which i understand as army-sized formation, and should have tank corps as well. A tank army might consist of 2 or 3 tk corps or a tk and some infantry. You can field a limited number of both, and have 2 or 3 tank corps instead of a tk army. Same with the airforce: So airfleet building could be limited to lets say 5, or 4 AF and 2 aircorps, 3 AF and 4 air corps and so on. The units of lesser scale normally would be reduced in attack and defending value. Working with armies and corps in the current game either when im not mistaken
  8. Would be great to see the Brest-Litovsk-Aftermath campaign available at Ottos StratComm HQ
  9. Historical, the Crimea was a persistent danger for the deep right flank of the german Ostfront - the soviets were able to constantly pump new units into the peninsula over the sea. In the hands of the enemy, the Crimea also was a considerable danger for the romanian oilfields as airport base. The LIV Corps under General Hansen was ordered to take the isthmus of Perekop: He had the the whole army groups artillery, Flak, Pioneers and the 73., 46. and 50 Infantry Div under his command - for a front of 7 (!) Kilometres! Manstein wanted these forces to kick open the gate, he knew the LIV. wasnt big enuff to conquer the Crimea with its many strongholds, with 26.000 sq km nearly as big as Belgium, on his own. The XXXXIX Mt Corps and the SS-Brigade LSSAH were transferred from the Dnjepr-bow and were ordered to do the rest of the work after the succesful breakthrough. So far about the situation in September 1941. In StratComm the russians mostly do not use the peninsula to threaten the german flank, so axis player can simply cut it off, dont bother about it and march into the caucasus. Why should one spend so substantial ressources for only one port and nevertheless Whats the best way to take Sevastopol for you axis players?
  10. The soviet armies at the front line were by all means there, the guards tank armies in the second line as well, and i wanted to represent the large output of equipment from the factories beyond the urals ('tankograd') with the large number of red armies reserves. Furthermore there should be enuff target practise for the german army groups in the east while it should be a real challenge for axis player to turn the tide at that theatre.
  11. Glad you enjoyed the 'Wacht Am Rhein' campaign
  12. Its not just you. But the 41 Barb campaign features only the units that where present at that time originally, historically acurate and so the limited number of armies and tanks is correct from that point of view. Starting the game with the polish campaign leaves the player more than enuff time to power up your war machine so the asian hordes will be unable to stop the glorious Wehrmacht. Thats why every game against the AI should be played against ally +2 exp and max expert settings, otherwise its a much too easy walkthrough.
  13. Just checking back in. Great topic from the Jersey once again, i'm a strong supporter of these ideas. Nothing would be greater in SC2 than to have 1st :world map and 2nd: more diplomacy. Why not start the scenario on January the 30th, 1933? Kleiner Scherz
  14. Right you are. Phucking Nightmare. Seems to me the use of gas was one of the last ethical barriers that German High Command didnt want to exceed. As mentioned, the fear of allied revanche was too weighty.
  15. Yep, would be great to see that featured in SC2. More variety with the mpp costs for units from one major country to another. As mentioned above, also soviet mass production of tanks is not feasable within current game mechanics - its missing. maybe tech advance should be splitted up into different sectors (ground, sea, air [ January 06, 2003, 06:56 PM: Message edited by: JayJay_H ]
  16. It wouldnt be too far out of line with history? One can have different views on that. Note that the red armies' officer corpse was badly mauled due to stalinistic cleansing actions.
  17. I beg your pardon? That never happened to me (russians turning the tide at the Main defensive line)so this as the only alternative to ultimate german breakthrough isnt that stringent as your stating it. Aside from that, im wondering to see the russians one more time called as allies. [ December 24, 2002, 10:41 AM: Message edited by: JayJay_H ]
  18. JerseyJohn, Its always a pleasure to further your concepts, for theyre always qualified
  19. Impossible with random settings. You must be joking right
  20. As expected, the polish and danish campaign is a walkthrough. Afterwords i turn north, to conquer both Norway and Sweden with two armies an HQ a tank unit and my Airforce. Youll say: that gives the frenchmen too much time to prepare for the Jerries onslaught. So What - My Wehrmacht cant get enuff of Target Practice. The more allied units destroyed, the more points i get in the end. And i value the exp my newly drafted armies get in France, theyll be battle-tested when they have to face the bolshevists later.
  21. Here we have a good example for one of Jersey Johns Ten or Twelve Permanent and Unmovable Forums. This sjubject had been already discussed in detail. I delayed russian entry until oct 1942 once, simply mass your war machine along the border and the bolshevists will have the jitters. That means they wont declare war and axis has enough time to build up. When the conflict finally breaks out, a skilled german player can nearly be unstoppable. Not only against AI
