How much will the scenario editor allow you to change

Recommended Posts

Can you chang entry conditions?

Movement parameters?

Combat parameters?

Supply? Readiness? Not just the starting numbers, but how they get updated?

Or will it strictly be a "park units in different spots" kind of editor?

It would be *awesome* if it allows players to change some of the fundamental parameters in order to tweak different things.

Is there any kind of Event engine? For example, is the creation of Vichy France an event that can be modified, or is it hard coded into the game?

Initial percentages can be changed, but triggers cannot.

Nope.

NopeX2.

Something like that, but with more options.

Maybe, but a problem arises from changing core rules like movement and combat. Namely, how can two players play a campaign if only one has the "new" rules? The only logical solution would be for both players to use the same rules.

This, as has been demonstrated in the Close Combat world, leads to a fragmentaion of the community. There will be some players using the "Armor Can Move 100 Hexes" rule while others will prefer to use the "Subs Are Invisible" rules. Because SC caters (think about how funny that word is here :D ) to a niche market, fragmentation is the last thing it needs.

Nope. The latter.

Whoa! If my reading of the tea leaves is correct, we are already fragmented and not likely to change. The beer&pretzels crowd wants a fun game and is only moderately concerned about historical reality. The grognard crowd wants an accurate simulation of WWII with some more realism than currently provided. Hubert may think there's a comfortable middle ground, but he may end up irritating more folks in the long run than he pleases.

SC has the potential to offer an advanced game with more detail and/or a full function editor for players to change game parameters and the map. This probably won't happen for SC, but should be seriously considered for a later patch or a future SC2. As for different players being able to play a consistent game, they should only require three files - game parameter file, map file, and scenario file. That shouldn't be a problem.

This doesn't have to be like buying a Model T Ford - "You can have any color you want as long as it's black."
