EB. Posted October 21, 2002 Share Posted October 21, 2002 German ability to attack Italy is an interesting idea but probably not realistic in the time period of the game. Now, back a couple of years before when Germany was first threatening and then directly annexing Austria, the Italians mobilized their troops on the Brenner Pass--at that point, war may have been possible. In fact, at that very point, it was Mussolini who was the loudest voice in the West for standing up to Hitler--very ironic, the way things turned out. But after 1939, the chance of German-Italian war was basically zero. Maybe the Italians were not 100% fixed to ultimately joining the Axis, but the alternative I think would just be for them to have remained neutral, not actually join the Allies.
