Damaged Guns, bug or by design?

When a vehicle's gun is hit the vehicle's turret will not rotate for the remainder of the game. Sometimes detailed hits won't indicate a gun hit. An aware player can monitor enemy vehicles and if he/she notices the enemy vehicle never turning its turret, that instantly signifies the target has a damaged gun.

Perhaps this is to be addressed in CM2.

Even better, the turret or gun always instantly changes to dead ahead when the gun is damaged. So you can see gun damage immediately even if the FOW doesn't say anything about it. Probably a consequence of the design of CM, and not a bug, though.

Sorry to correct you Ben, but I distinctly remember a PBEM game where I got a gun hit on a PzIV. After that hit the turret was stuck in a 10 o'clock position, until I killed it several turns later.

Might have been a different CM version though...
