Jarmo
You mean the StuH? It has a short 105mm main gun. Not a 75mm. A mean infantry killer. And that's what it was made for. Poor AT performance. The stug family is an obsolet PanzerIII with the turret ripped off and replaced with a "good enough" gun.

bfamily33
I updated the pic. It now shows the Stug with and w/o side panels. It looks good from afar, but not that good up close. It's also LOW-RES. If you have Tiger's Stug's, you'll probably be disappointed.

Olle Petersson
quote:
Originally posted by Rob/1: I did some reading the Stug was made to be a Self prepeld AT gun is this true?

The history of the StuG III is that it started as a Sturmgeschütz (assault gun, infantry close support vehicle) about 1940. Armament was the 75L24, same as on the early PzKw IV. It was part of the artillery branch and supposed to shoot at soft targets, pretty much the same specs as the Sherman. To facilitate this "heavy" gun the turret was replaced by a fixed superstructure, allowing a lower profile and more spaceous interior. Around mid-war the StuG III was updated to the G standard, with the longer 75L48 gun. This meant better AT performance, and the StuG IIIG was subsequently adopted by some of the Panzerjäger units, as a replacement of Marders, and it also served as a medium tank in some tank battalions. This made the StuG IIIG into the most versatile German AFV in WW2. The Sturmhaubits 42 had the same original purpose, but was armed with a larger howitzer instead of a cannon.
