Question re: TCP/IP and LAN Play

Recommended Posts

A comment in the readme caused me to question something regarding LAN play. Here is the quote:

quote:
Internet Connection Sharing: ... In order to host a Combat Mission session you MUST have a dedicated IP address that is valid and transmittable to outside of your internal LAN. ...

My friend sets up a small LAN in his basement with IP addresses that are not valid off of the LAN. If 2 of us are on that LAN, will the IP addresses that we have assigned allow for TCP/IP play? This works fine for other LAN games, I just want to ensure that CM won't be any different. Can anyone give me an answer?

It shoudl, That comment was meant to mean hosting OUTSIDE the Lan back out to the internet.

You will have to test it to see though. I have seen it work on some (most actually) and not on others (well one that I know of). Not sure why it didnt work for this one guy but my guess was it was the way in which his router/hub was setup.
