Praetorian, I hate to break this to you (not really), but your understanding of Roman history appears to be equalled only by your understanding of the history of nuclear fission.

We will never know if the Praetorian Guard could indeed have been the equal of all the people you point out, since Alexander and Hannibal appeared at different times of the Roman republic, B.C., while the Praetorians appeared in the early empire AD, which appears logical. Them being imperial guards, their jobs were not required during a republic.

Also, once they appeared they concerned themselves with murdering current emperors in order to invest whoever bribed them enough with the purple. The work of guarding the imperial borders at this time was undertaken by legions mostly made up of barbarians (in the Roman sense of the work). A good idea about the way later emperors viewed them can be gleaned from the fact that they preferred to have their court in Trier in Germany, and not in Rome.

Next time before you assume that your opinion on anything including the stuff you just dug out of your nose does indeed constitute fact, do yourself and all of us a favour and read on it before posting.

Have a nice evening.
