  1. At the risk of getting the dreaded 'use the search feature' reply... I pretty much had to abandon any CM games because it was just too jerky on my machine. I tried to play the 'Wittman's Tiger' (or something like that)scenario, but my poor machine couldn't handle it. In fact, any scenarios with cities in them slowed my computer to a crawl. I've got a 450mhz processor with 128 meg of RAM, so I don't think that's the problem. Could it be my video card? I believe that its only 8 meg. If so, what's the preferred card to pick up (for under $200, that is). Thanks for any advice, and please, be gentle.
  2. Yeah, I could do it myself, but it seems like the computer could do it much better and more accurately. For example, I finish a quick battle and check the stats of my alter ego on the 'casualities inflicted' screen. It says something like; 'Rallied two squads, led 1 squad in the destruction of a tank, had 1 squad routed under his command, had 6 infantry casualities under his command' etc. I would think that the game could even update the HQ's attributes, if necessary. I could them create another quick battle and easily insert the unit.
  3. BTS, I hate to give away my age here, but I seem to remember, way back in my childhood days of 'Squad Leader', that there was some method for a player to take on the role of one of the leaders. The player would keep track of 'Elan' and 'Cowardice' points earned throughout a scenario, and get promoted or demoted accordingly. Would it be possible to add something like this into CM? Perhaps on the 'Casualities inflicted' screen. At least for the HQ units, I think it would be a nice touch. Players who wish to create their own campaigns could then have HQ units carry over from battle to battle.
  4. There are some things that prostitues won't do.
  5. Ethan, You've gone too far this time, my friend, insulting me and all Rex-kind. Commenting on my organ was bad enough, but implying that I'm a lawyer as well! Sheesh! I'm hitting you with a slander suit that will make your head spin. If only I could find a lawyer... Rex PS. Testimony from my girlfriend regarding the size of my organ will not be allowed.
  6. Sorry to change the subject here, but I thought we were trying to guess the origin of Lorak's mysterious handle. If I remember the Saturday mornings of my childhood correctly, wasn't Lorak one of Space Ghost's arch enemies. By the way, I've played wargames for over twenty years, and I'll bet that, in all that time, I've haven't met 10 females that share that interest. I believe that war in general appeals more to men that to women. I don't often see little guys playing army in the streets. It's definity a testosterone thing. Women see the pain and suffering involved in war, men see the glory and excitment. Of course, that's a broad generalization, and there are always exceptions, but the fact that the male posters on this board outnumber the female by a pretty significant amount just proves the point.
  7. jpinard, Hey man, I've got an uncle named Joe Pinard, and another named Jim Pinard. Any relation? There can't be that many Pinards around...
  8. Five hours to complete a single scenerio? I've paid $45.00 for entire games that I didn't play for five hours... Fortunately, CM isn't in that group. I probably got several hundred hours worth of entertainment from the demo.
  9. BTS, Okay, I've tried to be patient, but I'm starting to think that something has gone terribly wrong with my order. First off, I pre-ordered well over a year ago. I fully expected to be the first on my block to be playing CM and habging my new poster over the computer. Well, I got the dreaded 'there's a problem with your credit card' message, and had to immediately re-order. My second order went out June 12 (I think). As of yesterday, I'm still CM-less. Not even a poster to tide me over. And yet I see people in Europe, and probably even New Zealand, are playing away! Man, for all I know, even the Canadians are getting their orders. How can I check up on my order? Is there any way to tell if its even been sent yet? I've pretty much given up on getting a poster (I'm sure that they're all long gone by now), but I really beginning to worry about the game. Rex
  10. Hmmm, Let me check mine.... Oh yeah, I haven't gotten it yet! Believe me, even a faded manual is better than no manual at all. Just kiddin' ya, man. Truth is, I'm jealous as Hell of all you guys.
  11. Oh man, you're killing me!! I haven't laughed this hard since my last trip to the dentist!
  12. Man, I preordered over a year ago, and just yesterday got the 'problem with your credit card' message (actually, it was sent out last week, I've just been on vacation and didn't check my email). So I had to order all over again this morning! I'll be lucky to get the game before the weekend! What's worse, all the friends that I talked into ordering will get the game before I do! Definitely a sad day around the old homestead.
  13. Maximus, Well, I live in a mansion, no, a castle, and my doorstep is about 100 feet from my driveway, so it's difficult to distinguish the subtle differences between a phonebook and a padded envelop. And I have all my mail (including the phonebook) delivered to my doorstep in specially designed packages, for security reasons. And I always get the phonebook earlier than everyone else, because I invented the yellow pages. Now if you'll excuse me, my wife, uhh, Morgan Fairchild, yeah, that's it. My wife, Morgan Fairchild, and I have to catch the Concord, which I own, by the way, over to London for Dinner with the Queen. Rex
  14. So, I pull into my driveway last night and see a nice little package sitting on my doorstep. A little early for CM, but I preordered more than a year ago, so msybe mine got shipped in the first batch. Besides those BTS guys have never failed to surprise so me. 'Cool beans", I think, and calmly walk to the door (I don't want my neighbors seeing me dance around like a ten-year-old on Christmas). Well, needless to say, it wasn't CM, it was the new phone book. I haven't been so disappointed since they took 'Star Trek' off the air (the original series, that is)... Rex
  15. "Okay, so... Mike Ditka verses God." "Is Ditka hurt?" "Let's say Ditka's got a broken ankle" "Then I gotta say, Ditka 103, God 14". One of my personal favorite SNL routines.
  16. Matt, Saw my name as one of the bazooka men in VoT. Very cool! Showed it off to all my friends, but they weren't too impressed.
  17. Is there some special command to make your squads attack tanks using their panzerfausts? Several times I've snuck a squad (with PFs) up behind a Sherman, within about 30 yards, and tried to have them take the thing out. All they do is fire their puny guns at the behemoth and then cower when it spins around to face them. Also, when I target the tank, I don't get the "chance to hit" message. It's like the squad refuses to use their antitank weapons. What's the deal? Rex
  18. Yeah, well, I guess it's okay. I was really expecting more, photographic quality graphics, genius level AI, oh, and I wanted it yesterday, too. Hey, if I remember correctly, about three months ago someone started a 'Guess the Release Date' contest. I picked May 16th, which, I believe, entitles me to 1 free copy, autographed by the Big Timers themselves, of CM. By the way, Great job, guys!
  19. I love those diary excerpts! Eighteen-year olds writing some absolutely beautiful prose. It makes me sad to think that writing like that has gone the way of the dinosaur. Seems that if it can't be captured on videotape, and given a fifteen second voice-over, it's not worth our time. Rex
  20. Birthdays seem to be in vogue. I'll take May 16. Rex
  21. Count me in. I'd gladly wait an extra week and pay double the price for an autographed copy. Rex
  22. Sarge, When I was in high school, I worried mostly about what the other kids thought of me, whether my parents were ever going to catch my girlfriend and I doing things we weren't supposed to be doing, and who was going to drive me to the dance on Friday night. Today, kids have to worry about whether or not some other kids are going to bring automatic weapons to school and start shooting... Food for thought...
