French partisans?

Recommended Posts

Hi and welcome.

Et bienvenu sur ce forum...

You should do a search under "Partisan" and you'll find more than you could process.

Short version is that the scale and scope of CM will not accommodate our FFI and others.

CM2 will be Eastern front and partisans should be included.

Un site sur CM en français existe aussi ainsi qu'un webring.

Trouble is though that partisans confined their operations to what were basically terrorist attacks. What fun will there be in one or two german units being ambushed by a forest full of french partisans?

A stand up fight is unlikely to go the partisan's way without the benefit of heavy weapons/AFV's/artillery

What they did had mainly an effect in a broad strategic sense.

Holding troops for police works elsewhere.

Blowing up bridges and railways.

So I guess that in CM you MIGHT say that if the german player has NO King Tiger, it could be because FFI blew up the bridge under its tracks.

For CM2, partisans had also a tactical role and hence could be included in a game.

absolutely, what a pain in the arse it must have been for the germans when they needed all the fighting men at the front yet had to commit so many to the guarding of roads/train lines/bridges etc

Makes it hard to concentrate on the job in front of you when youv'e got one eye looking behind!

Vive La France!

No. Vercors operations in feb-March 1944 were set-piece battle.

2 German division were captured in South west france in August 1944. Last, you will find some real example of FFI/US cooperation during the liberation of Brittany. All these operations come into the scope of CM.

Laurent

During the period covered by the game, especially June-September 1944, the prime service that the FFI performed was to maintain surveilance (recon) along Patton's southern flank as he swept eastwards. Since they were reporting the movement of no significant German forces on that flank, he was able to free up forces for his main drive, which goes some way toward explaining why he was able to arrive at Argentan so quickly with enough force to be useful. Also (and perhaps even more) it explains how he was able to put XX Corps in Chartes three days later. The FFI was watching the crossings of the Loire.

Ah, but this opens up a whole new area for CM to explore. You have your crack band of French partisans, drinking a little wine, having some nice cheese, smoking their fine Galois....suddenly they spot German troops! Can they hide successfully?? Can they convey their precious information to the Allies? Can they stop arguing about who will take the information to the Allies and who will carry the wine long enough to actually carry out their mission?? Only YOU as player can decide!!!!
