MajorH TacOps Developer
Long article on commercial sims vs DoD sims in the November 2003 issue of National Defense Magazine. TacOps v4 is mentioned. http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/article.cfm?Id=1241 Successful War Games Combine Both Civilian and Military Traits, by Michael Peck Commercial war-game designers can provide realistic and user-friendly simulations far more cheaply than the military’s own multi-million-dollar systems, some experts argue. Yet, developers and operators of big-ticket simulation systems counter that off-the-shelf games lack the official testing and validation needed for accurate models. This is more than a technical dispute. It is a clash of cultures. ... See the link for the rest of the article.

JRapkins
John Tiller's Modern Air wargame for the military users. I know what the commerical release will be, but not sure of release schedule, plus HPS's policy of "don't tell" when it comes to works-in-progress.
Publius Cornelius Patton
Interesting article. However, let's just hope that the military doesn't train our officers with things like Age of Empires. Lest our combat enginneer be caught trying to build a Wonder on an occupied enemy beach. God bless, "P. Cornelius Patton"
DESERT HAMSTER
People should be able to access realistic war games, maybe then our future generals will have a far greater knowledge of future situations and deal with them in better ways than in the past. Practice makes perfect training in these situation is VITAL! What harm can it do putting this type of software in the public domain we have no resource to act them out. If the top notch are worried about the competion with these games maybe they should review ther own systems and update. Regards the DH sorry if that makes no sense
