MajorH TacOps Developer
The full text of "The Bear Went Over The Mountain: Soviet Combat Tactics in Afghanistan" complete with maps can now be downloaded in a single 13 meg, Adobe Acrobat, PDF file from the National Defense University Website. http://www.ndu.edu/inss/whatsnew.html 248 pages of TacOps scenario ideas. 50 to 60 simple, black and white map sketches (free of copyright) that can easily be copied and scaled/expanded to TacOps map scale. For an idea of what you can do with these sketches, look at Map250 in the TacOps HQ map room. Map250 sprang from this book and only took me a couple of days to do since the sketch was so simple. If anyone feels like making maps from this book you are welcome and encouraged to use my textures, shading appraoch, etc from Map250. That way the maps "in the set" would have a similar look and feel.
Missionman
I would REALLY like to make/edit my own maps but i have yet to learn how to. Is there a comprehensive/complete/thorough tool to help me learn map making for TacOps?
Phil Squair
Great stuff! I am enjoying the reading tremendously. Major H, please keep helping us non-military types by posting interesting links like this. Thanks!
MajorH TacOps Developer
>Is there a comprehensive/complete/thorough >tool to help me learn map making for >TacOps? There is not a big slick user guide for the map making utility but there is enough info to get you started. The best thing to do is to start with a very simple or almost blank piece of artwork and encode that as you switch back and forth betweenTacOps and the map utility. Also, reset your forum preferences so that you can see messages going back a year or two and look for messages with "How to make a Type2 Map" and "Type2 map" in the subject.
