Phil Squair
Any advice for a civilian on how best to use Apaches? Are they better against hard or soft targets? They're pretty vulnerable sitting up there, so moving them around seems to be important. I've been messing around with the Fenwick scenario and am definitely not using them up to their potential. Thanks.
Stoffel
Move around as much as you can,try to fire your missiles from as far away as possible (they have a long range)If it is possible only engage tanks or high priority targets as aaa-guns.Try to kill these aaa's first.Armoured cars can often be killed with cannonfire or mg fire. Remember the enemy sam gunners know where you are and can fire at you from their vehicles if you keep your helos at one place. Another thing make use of the terrain,in many cases you can hide behind trees or hills popp up and kill than move away to another location.
Guest MajorH
Do a 15 second pop up attack. Below is the technique for doing a helo 'pop up' attack in TacOps. Move the helo at NOE elevation to a point just behind (not over) a terrain object (town, woods, or hill) that blocks the line of sight between the helo and the enemy. Click once on the 'Helo up one level' button in the Delayed Orders Controls area in the Unit Orders Window. This gives the helo a delayed order to go higher (in this case up to medium altitude). Click once on the 'Delay 15 seconds' button (looks like a watch) in the Delayed Orders Controls area in the Unit Orders Window. This gives the helo a delayed order to pause 15 seconds before doing the next order in the que. Click once on the 'Helo down one level' button in the Delayed Orders Controls area in the Unit Orders Window. This gives the helo a delayed order to go lower (in this case back to NOE altitude). Click enough waypoints to move the helo a 1000 meters or more (the farther the better) away from where it did the 'pop up' attack. Repeat. The deal here is that if the helo was legally unspotted before it started this 'pop up' technique, then it will get a surprise fire benefit which means that usually no one will fire at it during the first 15 seconds that it is hovering at medium altitude. However, if it was legally spotted before it started the 'pop up' or if it executes another pop up at a point too close to the last pop up point then might not get the surprise fire benefit during its 15 second hover. You might sometimes get away with staying up longer in a pop up attack but the longer you stay up beyond 15 seconds then the greater the chance that the enemy will acquire you. ------------------ Best regards, Major H majorh@mac.com
