WHICH CPU TO UPGRADE TO?

I'll second your recommendation Lee.

I went for the 995E LG 19" screen as it rated well in many reveiws and also got PC Magazines Monitor of the year in its class.

It was actually cheaper than a 17" Sony flatscreen and if the LG's picture is of a lesser quality, I'm buggered if I can see it!

I'd definitely check around, as you never know what else might not be available now. My ViewSonic is the PT795, purchased a year and a half ago. With a GeForce2 GTS w/64 MB DDRRAM I've no trouble at all running constant resolutions of 1280x1024x32 @ 85MHz screen refresh rate. That should give you a reasonable idea of the kind of performance you're shooting for, or at least the sort of thresholds the current state of the art will afford.

As for "flat" versus normal CRT's: the former handle reflected light and glare better, but will cost you a few more bucks as a rule. For me it was worth it, but then again the one thing I take in life seriously are games, so what can I say? smile.gif

I'm playing at 800x600 right now, but that's just because I need to

upgrade my system before I run it at a higher res. When I upgrade,

frame rate will not be an issue at all, and I plan on running at 1024x768

or 1280x1024, whichever gives a more pleasing dimension to the eye while

playing. smile.gif

The picture quality on the 995E is fantastic, bright vibrant colors,

gleaming whites, solid blacks. And this monitor supports very high

refresh rates, so one can get super fast frame rates out of that

new video card one just bought. smile.gif
