Guest Captain Manieri
Hi everybody. Listen, I'm doing a report on Patton in my English class. A sort of Biographical paper. I know some stuff about Patton and I've seen the movie...I know we have TONS of history geniouses at this board, so what I was wondering is, does anyone have any info they can contribute? Thanks. Guest JonS
Do you want to put some parameters around that? "Patton" is a pretty big subject. "Patton: His Part in Mussolinis' Downfall" is a bit smaller, while "Patton: His Influence on the Gulf War" is quite small. Or, you could do a search, and find all the stuff on him that has already been posted ... but that's not really your style is it? Runyan99
Patton wrote a book after the war called "War as I knew it". I recommend you look at it, as it gives *his* viewpoint on what was going on. ------------------ "Never mind what Clausewitz thought! What do YOU think?" Fionn
1 word of advice... I wouldn't go basing all too much on the movie. It didn't give a very rounded and balanced appraisal IMO
Viperflier
Patton would have loved the tactics used in the Gulf War. His motto was hold 'em by the ear and kick 'em in the ass. The demonstration along the Kuwaiti front with the barn door redeployment would have made him (and even von Schleiffen) proud
Los
Supposedly Schwarzkopf kept von Mellithen's (sp?)Panzer Battles by his bedside for nightly reading during the Gulf War. (Knowing how busy he was it would have taken about 6 months for him to rea it....) Los
dalem
Capt.- Try reading the aforementioned "War as I knew It" and also the recent "Patton, A Genius For War" (I think by Carlo d'Este, but I'm not sure about that). I'm sure your local library has a lot of other sources for you. Reading is Fundamental. -dale
