Single player campaign playing tactic worth ?----I expend a LOT of my off map Arty ammo on destroying enemy FO's ?! Do experienced players think it is worth generally of course ?Putting it another way does the AI use the FO's for the designers off map arty or does the enemy Arty bombard you -no matter what the state of their FO's ? Thanks

The AI is prone to the same spotting restrictions as you are. It cant hammer you with arty unless it has a spotter with arty privileges, contact to the firing artillery (either via C2 or radio) and LOS on your troops. I dont know if the AI preferably uses the FO for artillery spotting if there are multiple capable spotters avaiable, but i assume so.

Off-map arty is a pretty blunt instrument. It is best used on moderate to large concentrations of troops. Trying to snipe FOs with it strikes me as a waste. Unless the FO happens to be in the close vicinity of a larger body of troops, most of the time I would not waste a fire mission on one unless I absolutely had arty to throw away.

I would say it is pretty pointless.

Unless you also manage to kill off every HQ unit the enemy has that can call in artillery.

Use your artillery to take out large formations of enemy troops or to deny the enemy an area of approach.

Just ignore the enemy FO's and keep your eyes open for spotting rounds. And when they start landing near your troops, either dig in (ie. use hide) or get the hell out of there. I prefer the second option.

If you absolutely have to take out their FO's, then use a sniper. Thats what they are for after all (well, taking out key personel)
