  1. Around 20 Norwegian M109´s (replaced by K9 Thunder) were taken out of storage late April for firing tests, and recently the US confirmed that Norway were sending artillery to Ukraine. When asked by journalists the Defence Department declined to comment on the quantity and type of weapon, but I think it is safe to say that at least 20 M109 are on their way (we had 55 in storage, but not all were operational). Norway are not announcing weapon shipments anymore, but it is clear that at least 2000 M72 LAWs, 100 Mistral MANPADs and several thousand helmets, vests, uniforms and field rations have been sent. There are also rumours about the NSM (Naval Strike Missile) that is produced by Norway and have been requested by Ukraine, but the government is refusing to comment.
  2. Interesting map over roaming Russian SIMs in Ukraine.
  3. An interesting take on China`s relationship with Russia: https://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/east-asia/2022-04-05/next-sino-russian-split
  4. Here is a Twitter-thread on Russian squad and platoon organisation:
  5. Map of recaptured settlements and possible Russian pockets:
  6. Article from the Barents Observer, citing Ukrainian claims that the BTG from the 200th Motorized Rifle Brigade was totally wiped out, with only 3 survivors out of a force of 648. https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/security/2022/03/several-hundred-arctic-troops-killed-says-ukrainian-adviser
  7. I loved the quote in the comments, allegedly by Vasilly Kim: "Countries with a chicken in their flag shouldn't invade countries with a fork on theirs" - Vasily Kim Mayor of Mikolayv
  8. Playing the part as REDFOR in Battle Griffin (1999 i think?)
  9. OSINT article using serial numbers of posthumous Order of Courage medals to estimate the number of Russian KIAs during the first week of fighting. https://informnapalm.org/en/medal-count-osint-analysis-of-real-russian-losses-for-the-first-week-of-hostilities-in-ukraine/ TL;DR, they estimate the Ukrainian number of around 5000 KIA for the first week is pretty accurate.
  10. More reports that russian forces in Bucha, Irpin and Hostomel have been encircled: Looks like it could be around 8 BTGs according to Jomini of the West:
  11. Systems like the Protector RWS C-UAS looks like a promising way to deal with drones, especially the cheap commercial ones. The US Marines have signed a contract for it, using 30mm grenades with proximity fuses. https://defence-blog.com/us-marine-corps-awards-contract-to-kongsberg-for-counter-uas-weapons/
  12. Ahh, thank you @akd, easy to get carried away by the Twitter storms
  13. Things are happening in Belarussia apparently:
  14. Well, none of the reasons Putin gave for invading makes much sense to us in the West, but it seems to resonate at home..
  15. I know it is totally unrealistic of course, but I seem to remember one of the pretexts for invading was to prevent Ukraine from acquiring nukes. So Putin could put it down as a win if it was part of a peace treaty, and for Ukraine it wouldn't matter at all as they have no plans for acquiring nukes anyway.
  16. This one is the most detailed I have seen, no post for today as of now. Further down the thread there are maps for the different AOs:
  17. Here is an depressing article from the Barents Observer (covering the Arctic Region) showing the ridiculous propaganda going on in Russia at the moment.. And these guys are talking about denazification? https://thebarentsobserver.com/en/security/2022/03/wave-warmongering-gushing-over-russian-youth The 61st Naval Infantry Brigade and the 200th Motorized Infantry Brigade are stationed just across the border from Norway. They have both been severely mauled in Ukraine, hopefully these people will open their eyes when the pitiful remains return to base. As a conscript I was a part of the Porsanger Battalion tasked with slowing down the Soviet advance until the US Marines were deployed to Norway. Maybe we would have stood a chance after all
  18. They can shoot down aircraft and cruise missiles at much higher altitudes than manpads are able to.
  19. Zelensky has already signalled that he is willing to stop talking about NATO membership, so that is probably something he is willing to put on the table. "Limits on it's military forces" could be anything, maybe promising to not acquire nukes? Or not expanding the army more than it already is?
  20. Yes, but his loyal followers probably believe every word..
