  1. I was thinking about doing that but I am afraid I will get the same AI plan every time, I am guessing now that is not a concern?

    Related to firepower advantage comments people have made

    My pakfront actually worked but not as well as possible.  This time, I will hit them like before but add in APCs, RPG, and machineguns at the same time.  That way, when the survivors actually try to do something, they will fail in a hail of bullets!!!

  2. another minor defeatx2...arggg....  not going to waste 20 minutes loading these guys up with ammo at the start, they never live long enough to fire that many shots

    Tried putting all my ATGMs in one area and zapping everyone all at once, kinda worked, one team was shot up before another team reloaded and knocked them out, after that... one miss and done ...

  3. The ATGM was outside in that first wooded zone east/right of town.  They were "nervous" but otherwise OK.  

    Interesting... have guys behind the buildings instead of in them.  I will try that.  I did have them pulled into the interior of town which certainly helped.

    If you do fire it up, let me know what works or at least some hints.  Well past the spoiler phase now...  🤕

  4. Same scenario and it has happened several times now...

    ATGM crew has ammo, not suppressed, has LOS to target and no shoot... not at all even after repeated attempts at targeting the tank in their range and LOS...played to a minor defeat which is an improvement I guess.  Made some dumb mistakes though...

    Weapon deployed, they shot earlier in the scenario and then lock up

Playing Brutal, I was hoping the Russians would have a tougher time than they actually are.  After reading about the battles in Stalingrad, Hue and Fallujah, I was thinking the concrete buildings would be better cover than what they are.  The Russians blast away at the buildings they see... my guys retreat... Russians advance... rinse and repeat...anyone that does fire a shot is immediately taken out...I was able to knock out 15 APCs but still suffered a major defeat.  The tanks are a serious problem with their reactive armor.  Occasionally I get one but it's rare.

    How about foxholes?  Are they better than concrete buildings?  How much cover do trees give compared to concrete buildings?

    Can you conduct pop up attacks in this game?  Target briefly and then have them duck out of LOS?  move some... move up again to the berm and then target briefly and then back out of LOS?

  6. It is pretty amazing what you can find nowadays. I bought a boardgame called Armageddon Wars and the designer put me wise to all of these videos (in Syria).  The last one I watched, 3 APCs were taken out by a Ukrainian T-64 and the guys just kept filming as they were retreating in good spirits and they hoped the guys got out in the APCs (BTRs).  The field was huge and flat as a pool table, what a shame to be fighting over it instead of farming it.

So true!  Just achieved a major victory in Platoon House!  Still getting too many people killed though.  Like "I bet can get across the street before the tank shoots me" or "They will never see me up here on the roof" or "Sure I am safe here but I bet I can a better firing position if I move closer."

    I learned how to move guys side to side in the building and load up on ammo before the scenario starts.  

    I also counted 3 armored vehicles knocked out thank you...

    I am all in... I ordered several books on the subject and one on the history of Ukraine.   Soon I will get the other games and I am reading and watching all I can find.  

    On a random note:

    When I went to my local game store you would feel right at home, Cthulhu games everywhere!  Wow!

While it lacks drama, I finally figured out how to see who did what and got my first enemy surrender (where the end game screen just pops up).  Overall, a minor victory but I am just starting out so I will take it!  Took too many losses which I believe could have been avoidable or at least many of them were.

    Reminds me of Pavlov's House in Stalingrad.  You shall NOT pass!! (which is Gandalf I know)

    So I quit playing to go watch the Brown's with 20 minutes left in the game (They won!) and then woke up for the last 20 minutes of this game.  Kept my guys spread out to avoid airtstrikes (don't bunch up, no straight lines!)

     

    Whew!  What a freaking game.

     

    Going to read up on the subject and relax today and enjoy the win... maybe do the training again...maybe buy some of the other titles...

  9. While new, some of the changes I would like to see are user configurable difficulty.  Start with Iron difficulty but allow for automatic supply distribution as an example.

    Also, what new games are they planning?  I would love to see a Vietnam game especially with Riverine units which would look great in CM.  

  10. well crap, I was hoping there was some magic here although the 2 main team aspect is an improvement.

     I wish they would allow us to turn on automatic ammo resupply if vehicle is close and stationary and they aren't under fire for the higher grades of difficulty.  Kinda tedious especially for the larger scenarios.

    OK I did play it to a tie, it gave me no credit for CPs behind my lines because I guess nobody was there?  So I added those VPs back in.  😀

    My tank and at least one APC was blown up by enemy airpower.  Not really a fan of airpower during a scenario.  Too random in a game that is random enough.

I did not realize they have air support, usually because I never get that far and have to quit due to heavy losses.  I did get close and then boom!  I really struggle with this scenario much like I did with Ambush before I finally achieved a tactical victory.  I may try the edge crawling next time and see if that works, so far nothing has worked.  😒

  13. I think you are on to something.  I am always zoomed out and never really get into the weeds.  When I have, it works out so I need to do that more.  I love the models, the BTR for whatever reason just strikes me as cool and looks great in the game.  

    Save-Scumming... yikes, now there is a word for it?   😑  I know it's cheating... I wonder if I should do the quick battle thing instead while I am learning.

    I am kinda bummed that it doesn't do contours yet, after downloading a bunch of Vietnam maps I taught myself how to read military maps and got pretty good at it.  A grid would help with my spacing I think.  I keep forgetting that this game has tough love realism and so keeping guys under cover or out of sight, spread-out, but close makes a real difference.  

    I also need to learn more about artillery and air support too, when to go heavy vs light etc.  

    This is me playing "Ambush" and getting beat bad....that it would be good for a laugh...
