  1. Hey all!

After playing the Combat Mission BN Demo, I've decided to go ahead and purchase a package. I'm not sure *which* though.

My first thought is just do the CM:BN Big Bundle, but I wanted to check here, as this is what I'm looking for:

I like smaller, more tactical engagements than larger ones, and I like more urban settings (buildings, hedgerows, etc) vs open fields.

With this in mind, what would you guys recommend?

    Thanks!

It's simple: in this era, scout teams were not authorized to call in strikes. (Okay, so it may have happened in a few exceptional cases, but as a general principle that was a no-no.) It was a matter of specialized training, and without that there was a lack of confidence in the spotter.

The HQ has to have its own LOS to the location. Just being informed by the scouts is not enough. And BTW, it's spelled 'sight'.

    Thank you, *now* I understand.

Also, for the record, I do know how to spell, I promise. It was early!! :D

Just to follow up a bit on what Ian just said - the security features that Battlefront uses has changed almost with every release.  The game's security is definitely not a static feature - which really wouldn't make much sense when dealing with computers.  The technology changes so rapidly that I would have to presume that the way content is secured must change just as rapidly in order to remain effective.

It sounds like they've made changes to make it less draconian. Thank you!

Are you sure the scouts have radios... If they have found a good position to spot a target, then shuffle them away and put in their place an HQ/FO (with a cover arc to remind them not to take pot shots giving themselves away) with the necessary authority/training/equipment to call in the strike.

They do have radios and they are green to 1st company HQ, which I thought meant they could communicate?

Use Scout Teams (with a small target arc) find out where the enemy are, picking up both visual sightings and sound contacts. Keep 4th Platoon HQ with the Mortars, he has the Radio for them. Use either 1st Platoon HQ to call in arty once he has reached an "Overwatch" position, or even wait for Company HQ to do the arty spotting whilst the Platoon HQ stays with his men.

That's why I'm confused that I still can't call in an mortar strike from 1st platoon hq or 4th platoon hq...everyone can communicate. when I try to call it in I get the "no line of site"

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. The mortar is deployed. The scout team can see an enemy, and has communication to 1st company HQ (it's green in the little communications panel)

1st platoon HQ is green to Charlie company, as is 4th platoon HQ, who has the mortars.

I can try to call in the mortar strike from either 1st or 4th HQ, but the issue is the same, no line of site.

Just trying to understand this wonderful game. Thanks again for the help! :)

  5. I'm following a tutorial, but my mortars say they don't have line of site.

I have a scout from 1st platoon that is in contact with 1st platoon hq (green)

1st platoon HQ is green to charlie company, and has a radio.

4th Platoon HQ has a radio, is green to charlie, and has the mortars.

My scout has spotted an enemy, but I can't use the mortars to fire

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
