  1. I wouldn't let that deter you. You can keep an older install while also getting the full package. That way you have a version prior to upgrade to go back to if you really feel the campaign/scenario is unplayable on the new. All new material will be on the newer version engine.

So in your opinion there is still plenty of stuff to play around with? I dont really have the time to work on my own scenarios so I tend to rely a lot on what the game already includes and/or what other people are nice enough to share.

  2. as far as solutions are concerned would it be reasonable to simply have all stationary non vehicle units spot all vehicle units if they are in an adjacent square, unless there isnt a direct LOS considering clear daylight (.e. not on the other side of a high wall, bockage etc)

The rationale being that even if raining, really dark, then dismounted troops should be able to spot a 40 ton 9 * 3 * 3 object or at least realise that something is there (tank tracks on the ground, smell of exhaust, noise etc etc).

Sorry if it has already been suggested.

  3. Any chance of adding a hull down / turret down indicator (i.e. you indicate the facing at a waypoint and then the indicator could show red/red or green/red or green/green)? Also an arc indicating the LOS would also be great when planning waypoints so that you can better plan routes that we are hidden.

If we could have temporary camouflage in the game, then it would be great too. Ideally I would like to be able to camouflage vehicles and troops further during the set up. It should not be something that you could do during the battle due to the time it takes, but I think that a heavily camouflaged StuG or machine gun team should be much harder to locate than it is now.

Similarly if we could have prepared positions for vehicles then it would be great too.

  4. Fully agree with your points about Operation Bagration not very well known and that it is a much harder sell than Kursk, Stalingrad, Fall Blau or Barbarossa.

However, I am optimistic that Battlefront will put together a package that covers a more well known period of the Eastern Front.

From a marketing/sales strategy then it would probably have made much more sense to start in June 41 and work your forwards, but I guess that required too much extra work  (effort that was probably spent on Black Sea).

  5. Yeah you are right in that there is a big cost saving in reusing the German stuff.

What I meant by the infantry comment was that I think a lot of the fan base (included me) enjoy the mixed units in the game. I.e. you can have a platoon of light tanks mixed with a tank destroyer and mortar battery all supporting 2 squads of engineers. It makes for a lot more "bling" than a lot of pixel troops shooting it out.

  6. I could imagine that the Pacific is off the table simply because the Japanese were quite infantry focused, and I guess the main target group for the Combat Mission series enjoy using artillery, armour, aircraft etc. Maybe the Pacific is considered too lob-sided.. i.e. US firepower vs Japanese infantry.

I think that is why they chose to timing of Red Thunder. It is not a period where the Red Army is getting bled white every time they get into a fight with the Germans.

  7.

There are similar issues on the German side with their heavies especially.  They report reasonable readiness numbers as the percent combat ready out of the whole strength.  But if you go down to the individual division reports, you will find that they can lose half their strength in the first few days in heavy action, leaving running status for the various repair categories.

Reading through the combat history of the 23rd Panzer Division, then you really get a sense of how quickly a Panzer Division deteriorated in strength when in combat. I would venture to say that the overall combat readiness of the tanks was less than 20% of the official ToE after even a few days of combat. The division never seemed to manage to concentrate much more than 20 or 30 tanks at one point.

  8. I just tried this a few times.. I only succeeded knocking out the Tiger once and my casualties were so heavy that I could not defeat the remaining German troops. Any good tips on how to check lines of sight when you are planning the advance. I am really bad at finding cover

  9. And buildable field fortifications (i.e. that troops can dig in if given enough time .. maybe 30 mins for a shallow foxhole) and armoured vehicle fortifications to make hull down positions easier. I would also like engineers to be able to blow up hedges, obstacles, bocage etc

  10. Well you cannot really go wrong. Pick the game that interests you the most. I currently have all three WWII games and am currently playing one PBEM from CMFI, one from CMBN and five from CMRT. So, at the moment I guess I am most interested in CMRT but that is just because it just came out.

Probably be Red Thunder then for me, but I would have loved it to be based around the 1941/1942 .. I just find it more interesting to play around with the early war stuff where the armour isnt too powerful.

A France 1940 or Desert 1941/42 would also be great!
