I'll give it a go, if it's ready
-
Phew I dodged that one, don't think anyone noticed. Act casual and keep moving lad.
Thanks IanL, at least we got some publicity for the Blitz scenario odf the month eh
-
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm hit, going down; all out of control.
DAMNIT - you got me.
btw IanL do you have time for a PBeM game (I have only CMBN and all expansions), since I have insulted a "Great Old One" I suppose I should give you the satisfaction of beating me publicly (not doing an AAR though they are HARD work). pm me and we'll see what we can do.
-
Hi Hapless,
Great fast AAR, liked your commentary - well paced. Despite the restrictions caused by it being a LAN game I thought your choices of camera shots was very good. Infantry first, armour second indeed.
If it had been a PBeM game would your decisions on rushing your armour down the left have been different? I assumed from your comments that the quick turn around of turns means you make more snap decisions; rather than more deeply planning your moves. Would this be correct.
Most enjoyable.

Dilemma spot folks , A (very) junior fporum member spots a senior member make a minor, but irritating (and possibly very confusing) error. Do they point it out politely via a pm? or slink quietly away?.......................
Well i "like" c3k attitude, but tend to be more reckless
errm I think you'll find that it's the OCTOBER scenario of the month IanL

I'd like to see smoke pots available but only if it was possible to ONLY use them in prepared attacks; otherwise I can imagine how they could very easily be abused.
I also like the idea of multiple use smoke munitions for engineers.
-
Excellent AAR, very enjoyable. Thank you for the time taken to explain your plan, actions and mistakes so clearly.
I'd also like to encourage Emory to post some comments here on how he saw the game playing out and his comments on his view of your maneuvering would be very welcome.

I figured same, but also thought I might just have missed something obvious in the new profiles etc.
Noticed no-one else had mentioned it so was just checking it hadn't been missed (I REALLY like sigs)
-
EDIT: Well, mostly - quotes evidently didn't carry over, which looks like we're playing a very silly game of broken telephone. Question: If I compile this into a .pdf/word document (with obviously compressed .jpegs) would anyone be interested in that?
Yes I would, regardless of whether the forum quotes get fixed
-
Subject says most of it.
Since the update members sigs seem to have diappeared and I can't find anyway of getting mine back via the profile tab. Am I being a doofus?
I know it's not a massive problem, but i LIKE reading people's sigs on message boards, sad I know

I am a systems designer by profession. But I don't want to see CM's code or any games code. That is like seeing your spouse and your love as hormones and neurons firing in various lobes on PET scans. Some things should just be enjoyed for what they are; and not analyzed any further.
This has just become my sig quote of choice on a few other gaming message boards, thank you. It's also a very apt comment explaining why I enjoy PC wargaming so much more than board wargaming - hidden calculations.
Apologies for the OT comment

PLEASE STICKY,

1. I own CMBN and all add-on's and I have had them constamntly installed for longer than any other game (except Civ IV) on my PC and I've played them for more hours than any game (other than Civ IV).
2. I'd hate to guess what the cost per hour of gaming this works out as but I GUARANTEE it's a better rate than any other form of (paid) entertainment I've taken part in.
3. Considering I own a huge backlog of games whose play time is less than 2hrs and whose combined cost is 5-6 times the cost of ALL the Combat MissionTitles I'd say CMBN is value for money.
btw: I plan to purchase CMFI, CMRT & CM:Bulge eventually but I have soooo much more playing in CMBN before I get bored of it.
ANYWAY short version CM is GREAT

Absolutely, take it to another place, please.
Brilliant thread though, would be very interested in more - without politics, please.

That is one impressive list ! BTW what does the abbreviation anon. mean ?
In my experience:
anon. = anonymous (writer is unknown/unamed)
It's also common for their to be lots of academic (and not so academic) arguments raging over "real" authors name.
p.s. impressive reading list, feeling slightly jealous.
- edit - beaten by 1 minute AND with a link to a real reference: damn, just not my day today!

If you look close, that pattern in the middle makes an ominous formation...
Hmmmm, you're right.
<nervous chuckle>
Does this mean the thought police are going to turn up?
-
I thought you were joking, and started a post with other silly joke names about Italy. Then I thought better of it and googled Operation Olive.. Now I firmly believe that should be the official name of the coming expansion
Was that the sound of Google & wikipedia break under the strain of the searching this started?
Caution Author often has delusions that Strategy wargaming was the BIGGEST entertainment media in the world; above post should be treated with said delusions in mind.

Thanks Pete Wenman,
I will give you some feedback (if wanted) when we finish; so far it's very "interesting" - in a nail biting - "OH GAWD WE'RE ALL GOING to DIE" way
Just a comment - I really like the idea of "misleading/flexible" briefings/objectives as this better reflects the reality of combat.
Anyway back to the game
-
"Drive on the Dreijenseweg" CMMG
Dunno whether my opponent knows the allied objectives; and I don't want to open the scenario as it may give me an unfair advantage.
I've decided to treat this as a designed error
i.e. You have received updated intelligence/orders. I'll discuss it with my opponent after the game is finished.
Many Thanks for your replies.
-
Hmmm that was my assumption - The scenario briefing definetely lists it as an ocupy objective.
Would it be "gamey" to adjust my plans now as my opponent will be assumming I am going to garrison this location? (btw this is a HtH game with a scenario.) OTOH it does give me a chance to recover from a major cock-up in deplyment
I will report this (after the game) in my feedback obviously.
-
Possibly a dumb question BUT,
Is it normal for a Occupy Objective victory location to disappear when you locate it? Message received was that "Troops have located 'objective x' " ; the mission briefing states occupy.
I thought you had to be "holding" it when the scenario ended to count as occupying? Does this mean I will get the points even if I move my troops away?
When I say disappear i mean the green background to the location, which outlines the objective AS's - 1 problem i have is that it was a large objective and I can't figure out where the edges of it were.
btw I have checked and objectives are STILL turned on (several others still visible)
Thanks for the help in advance and please feel free to abuse me or yell RTFM if necessary

Personally I'd prefer Battlefront to spend as long as necessary getting the Bulge release ready; no hurry, less speed more progress etc.
The models look cool, and the backgrounds are v.good for ALPHA shots. So take your time Battlefront. We'll all still be here whenever it's released.

Oh the forum is helpful, just not in the manner you want/expect.
It's one of this site's many "charms"
