  1. Hey guys, running CMSF2 on Alienware 17R4 Laptop, with GTX 1080.

I have browsed through the forum, found all the performance topics, all of the topics to activate CMSF file through the Nvidia launcher, with all the relevant settings tweaks proposed here:

    1860473105_CMSF2.thumb.jpg.53ef022ef7116b65e246b4babef945b7.jpg

Changed the display size in the display file to mirror my laptops, etc.

The game still looks horrible/pixellated, and the text is blurry, and the gfx are bad.

I ran the game on a work desktop with much worse stats than i have on the laptop, and it looked crisp, cheerful, beautiful.

Is there something that I am forgetting to activate or switch on/off, or maybe there is another way to launch CMSF2 that forces the game to use best possible settings?

Have a look at these screenshots to show what i mean (this is at 2560 x 1440 @120hz forced resolution). Look at the depixellation on the ground, in the menus, in the shadows, and on the unit icons.

Game looks outright bad, on a system that should be running it smooth with no problem (CMBS looked gorgeous compared to this).

    Any ideas?

What sort of frame rates are you getting?  I would expect 20 to 30 on that kit, on Best settings.  Over the years I have had GTX 580, 680, 980 and now 1080.  It makes little odds, it is the CPU that has the biggest impact.  I think your CPU turbos up to 3.9Ghz, which is middling.

Hey Jock, Im getting around 30-35 fps, irrespective of whether I have the BEST settings switched on, or the poorest. The worst are the micro-stutters when moving/panning the camera.

Its just weird, given that CMBS ran much smoother on my older laptop-machine (was an Aorus 17, with a GTX 980).

You mention that it may be the CPU bottlenecking the whole thing. This is my processor unit: Intel Core i7-6820HK @ 2.70 GHz.

Ive tried running the game while overclocking the CPU, but still the problem persists.

Its just really strange, given the fact that the system is more than capable to run other AAA games AND wargame simulations without any hiccup, and yet CMSF-2 is taxing it so heavily.

Anyone has any thoughts in respect of performance improvement?

Oops! I made a typo in my instruction. The "Display Settings" is a file, not a folder, and a 4k display resolution is 3840 2160 0. Those Display files are also in in all the other CMXX folders, so you can change them for all your games, and not have to change your desktop resolution. I"ve changed all mine to 1920 1080 0 for all my games because it's hard for me to read the tiny text.

Thanks Vet - your tip helped me sort out the pixellation and the blurry text!

However, I still feel that my game doesnt run that well performance wise. Im on an Alienware 17 R4 Laptop, with a super fast processor, 32 GB ram, Geforce 1080 GTX card, and the game still seems like it loses frame rates whenever I try to move the camera across the map on the Germans defence scenario. Ive set the trees to low, but it doesnt really help. I Tried forcing the GTX 1080 in Nvidia control centre, but I am not sure that it is actually the card that the game is selecting, because it SHOULDNT be lagging at all with the system specs that I have.

Can someone talk me through the whole process of dedicating the GFX card to the game, and what other steps I can take in order to ensure that the game is being run while utilising the full extent of my system? These small microstutters and frame lag is really annoying me and ruining the experience which I was really looking forward to.

I used to have CMBS on an older much slower laptop, and that ran flawlessly...

It wasn't that however I've toned down some of the graphics card settings, reduced the display resolution & changed the game settings to low tree detail... the game is now playable for me (indeed with shaders & shadows off it's positively nippy).

However I've never had to do any of that for any of the other Demo's or my CMRT.

i52400 with GTX 1050 Ti card... my CMRT plays smoothly like this (at 4k resolution!).

Wow that looks gorgeous! My SF2 looks nowhere near that, what with all the pixels popping out.

That is also a symptom of running the game on a poor graphics card - do you have two on your box? If so you need to make sure CMSF is running on the high powered one and not the on the mother board crappy one. The game .exe is specific for the demo so you will need to create a new mapping for it.

Although I have a laptop (Alienware R17) - I only have the Geforce 1080 inside of it (so, just one dedicated card, no Intel). Nevertheless, I tried messing with the Nvidia control panel, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

Tried Turning off FXAA as per Pete's suggestion - still same problem. Game's resolution is just set to very low, and "use desktop" mode doesnt seem to improve it.

  6. Hey Guys - the text on the menus and the briefings is very pixellated and hard to read - I remember this issue used to occur way back in the previous titles as well.

Anyone figure out how to force a higher resolution on the menu, and the game itself? The highest I get is 1280x800, but I have a 4k Laptop Screen. When I select desktop resolution option, it still shows me really pixellated graphics within the game.

  7. Hey John, i decided to go over the parade straight after posting the above, and what's weird, I just watched the entire parade (with fast skipping of some of the marching scenes) video from Youtube (the one which is 1:26:00 long, with RT logo), and I didnt hear once anything being said about the neighbours (aside from praise for their valour in WW2 during Putin's speech). Now, I am sure i remember that there were comments made when I was watching the parade on Channel 1 russia, during the live stream. It must have been something said by the journalists commentating on the parade - not the official announcer.

I saw that there's almost a 3 hour video of the parade on youtube, with the channel 1 logo, so maybe that is where those phrases/comments will be found. Will revert later accordingly!

  8. Hey, this may be a dumb question (I have no military background or experience, apologies), but what about developing a system on top of the turret that would act like a CIWS which you get on modern ships? Those seem pretty capable of taking out incoming air to surface missiles, could such a system protect a tank from an ATGM? A Javelin? Or is their size/weight too impractical to deploy on top of a tank turret?

  9. Now if you are going to do the opposite and take control out of the players hand. You don't need so many pauses in the game. What you need is (you as the commander) can select any leader in your active chain of command. You will be allowed to change any orders to all the units under him in his command, once that command is given, you are assigned a time limit until you are allowed to do another command change. This represent communication time and such.So a simple example, selection a platoon leader. you cannot give orders again for two minutes. a company leader 5 minutes, a battalion leader 10 minutes.I have seen many elaborate suggestions on how to do it that are very complex, trying to be too realistic. This would be simple to understand and would represent the challenge of leaders. You can only address one problem at a time and it takes time for the communications to occur. What would still be unrealistic, and is presently in the game is your commands would be instant, but that is how it presently is and trying to do the delay would likely create so many challenges for the game, not worth the effort. Where as my suggestion. Changes nothing in the game.It just requires it to track when you make a order and locks you out from another order til that time is expired.

I like! Possible to do in current engine?

  10. Yeh, ultimately Niall is right. It was interesting to pick your brains and find your reasonings on a number of matters, but the convo did eventually wind up where it shouldnt have. As for insulting my intelligence and calling me a raving idiot - fine, i can swallow that, but am I not allowed to believe what I want or choose to believe? Sburke wants to believe Russia is fascist, I want to believe in conspiracies - thats it really.

Look, you are a good bunch of guys here, with experience in various interesting fields, and I dont want to lose the possibility to communicate with, and become more informed from this community.

I apologise to those whom I offended with my views/opinions/reasonings, I hope we can remain civil towards eachother, and keep mutually enjoying and discussing this (CMBS) and many other future Battlefront titles.

  11. Why is it absurd Sburke? If we are going to call Russia fascist, because of cynical actions of its state, and then dismiss that your state makes some pretty serious cynical decisions themselves, is that reasonable? So, the thousand posts here http://www.911truth.orgas well as hundreds of other sites, means all these people talk absurd nonsense?

Arguably, the difference is the FSB guys got caught doing what they were doing, while your guys didnt get caught doing what they were doing. Thats the difference. The end result is the same.

And the talk about the excuse machine, dude, noone is making excuses for what the Rus. Government is or is not doing. Im saying dont be sitting on your high chair calling them fascists, and then pretending that there are no similarities in US's actions of the past, that could just as easily apply that terminology to themownselves.

  12. @Sburke.

Russian Apartment bombings - yes, you may have a point, but then what about when the US economy was tanking, and 9/11 happened? Its circumstances were also too dubious to completely dismiss that it was an inside job. America needed a war, and a war against "terrorism" is a very clever concept, because its not a war against a neighbour, or a nation, or a political system - its a war potentially against EVERY nation, and gives your country carte blanche to bring the might of its military to ANY country, that might harbour the perceived "threat of terrorism" (who determines where that threat lies? Your state analysts? Good job in Iraq). So, Expansionist Aggressive Culture? Me thinks so (i mean, a shedload of your countryfolk were whipped into a frenzy of retaliation against foreign threats, and the US military saw a surge of fresh and willing recruits. Next step, bringing democracy by force into areas of the world that never wanted it nor cannot work under it (middle east)? Me thinks so. Oh, and the DUMBEST politician I have ever seen gets elected for a SECOND TIME as president of the most powerful country in the West? Manipulation? Me thinks so.

Its simple - whatever you are saying Russia MAY DO, in terms of its aggresive or expansionist policies, America already HAS done. Im not saying that Russia is right for doing what they are doing, but I am saying that you are wrong for labelling them Fascist for the reasons you described. The way the top few make decisions in our contries, are probably very similar. Just you guys have a much better propaganda machine that works well on maintaining and persuading your allies that its all a just cause (admittedly, you guys have been at it for far longer than anyone else, except maybe the British).

Ultimately, it is your opinion, which you probably wont change - im not a very adept or persuasive or deeply informed arguer. Passionate - yes. Ive been passionate about Russia since waaay before Putin.

To conclude, its just sad that by attaching the stigma of Fascism to Russia, it will prejudice you, as well as the readers who listen to and support your opinions (I for the most part really enjoy reading many of your other posts) - against the country and its good people even further.

  13. No, thats not under question - its clear that the State is doing everything you describe. Im asking about the promotion of expansionist aggressive culture to the public. Because, those bears that fly to the UK pretending they are British Airways, its not like the Russian state publicises this, saying: "Ah look how we keep the capitalists on their toes, soon we will conquer them all!"
