  1. This is what I responded to, looks, not the efficacy of the kit, gosh some people are so defensive if you dare to suggest German equipment was not the best. Yes, the MG-42 looks modern, but if the schlub behind the trigger looks of Great War stock, it somewhat detracts from the look of snazzy modernity. Compare a GI with WWI vintage BAR, but kitted out in modern webbing and modern uniform and the BAR's, by osmosis, becomes retro, not archaic.

As for Brits, their standard battledress had a untilitarian, subdued design, thus avoiding the archaic look. Their webbing looked modern, but that helmet, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Even covered in scrim it looks positively ancient. The para smock though looks modern, even now, and berets are timeless (the rimless helmet still holds its own, even now).

Tanks, yes, the Pharonic chariots, recovered from tombs look more modern, compared to a Universal carrier, Matilda, A10, Crusader and Valentine. Strange that some of their aircraft were the height of modern design.

well the british helmet not only looks ancient it is an ancient design, the ww1 british wouldnt look out of place on a 12th century battlefield. :D

  2. Totally agree. If you're doing RT then you want something that is actually user-friendly for RT like Close Combat. In fact didn't they bring out a 3D version of Close Combat that bombed? Seem to remember playing a demo and it was awful.

sounds like squad assault.. i gave up on when i realised you couldnt actually hit a tank at any range with an bazooka or panzershreck.. they were completely bugged

  3. its an interesting idea thats for sure.the ultimate what if sea lion '44 anyone :D if anyone is considering it ive got a 1942 handbook on the british army wrote by the us army (the extensive vocabulary translation is amusing) and a 1941 homeguard manual

With other untapped ideas..if anyone is interested in doing a dieppe raid scenario or campaign ive got maps, and aerial recon photos from the time of it and documents from the planning through to personal stories and a document from german scources

  4. in shockforce i found the lethality of the battlefield scary to say the least. tanks taken out at long range with ATGM's, needing to take a fortified urban area but required to do it with next to no casualties. yet when you do spot an enemy all hell breaks loose when everything opens up on them from.

CMBN on the other hand i find as others have mentioned things are more forgiving, battles tend to be more even with the US forces outgunned in some cases by superior german equipment.

its weird for me, i should like CMBN more, i loved the first games, i like the historical aspect, yet shockforce i find it easier to get into for a reason i cant identify

  5. I recall reading somewhere that along the entire front during the Normandy battles all of those countless U.S. TD battalion towed guns destroyed just six tanks. My reference is elsewhere, but that stat might've been right up through July. So if you find the darned things almost impossible to use for anything except firing on distant buildings - then the game's operating in a historical manner. As a matter of fact one of the game scenarios I did I included a towed gun out of perversity because I knew it would be all but useless. :D;)

you evil evil man.. well done :D
