  1. You mean for BN? They still haven't pulled it out of the hat yet. Possibly out before the end of the month though, and almost certain to be out before the end of the year. That's just my feeling anyway.

    Michael

Yea, I mean Upgrade for BN. It was promised in October, now is November 5th...:(

"End of year" is the very sad for me 'cos I have hope to use new map-making feature of Engine 2.0

  2. I suppose that this happens because of building is not completely occupied whole action spot. So game engine thinking that this is "open terrain" while 3D model occupied part of it.

You can check this, making in editor a map with buildings occupied only part of action spot and try to put something near it in deploy window.

So, "what you see is what you get" slogan is a fake :(

  3. In one of my recent PBEM games I have a disappointing results with buddy aid.

One member of ATG ammo bearers team was shot down. The ammo counter shows me 6 AP and 2 HE rounds in this team total. After the aid ends up and death body disappeared from map, the counter show me only 2 HE round leave. Gun isn't fired this turn. So, VERY important AP rounds just vanished due to my humanity???

    Here is link to video:

  4. I wish to gain more control in editor on:

    1. Quantity of ammo, especially AP and HE rounds in tanks. This can be useful in simulation of tank without AP rounds, for example.

    2. Weapons of infantry squads. There are many rear echelon units that armed mostly with bolt-action rifles with several MP40. I can't simulate this units in current editor 'cos squad always have one MG42/34. Or add to TOE list a "rear echelon unit" consisted of that lightly armed men.

  5. My two cents:

    1. Use it as cheep mine-finders in areas that has suspected minefield in it. Because lost one jeep is better then lost tank.

    2. For those who love risky games and play it against human oppo. Often human player hide most of his units at the beginning of battle to not gave up his positions. So, if you have enough jeeps (and, for better results, HTs&Carriers), you can load it with infantry and make a fast run to victory locations on any other important site on battlefield. In most cases there are no much enemy fire will opened on them. While enemy's defense plan will be totally ruined due to your raid:)

  6. Thanks again :)

Denis: Change that sentence to: "The post guards the interior areas of Tajikistan – north to Shuroabod, which is only 20 km east of Kulyab."

Because Spilhu pass is on the battle map, could it be right to say:

The post guards the interior areas of Tajikistan – via Spilhu pass north to Shuroabod, which is only 20 km east of Kulyab.

    ?

  7. Thanks, Ervin.

Here is second part - russian briefing

In 1991 after the collapse of USSR Tajikistan became an independent state. Immediately struggle for power between different groups begin. This struggle leads in 1992 for full-scale civil war. From 1993 Islamite's forces fought against legitimate government of republic with increased support from adjacent Afghanistan. Kulyab – southern outpost of government forces - became the main target of Islamite's efforts. There are many attempts was made during the spring 1993 by Islamist forces to penetrate border and links with other antigovernment forces in Tajikistan.

    ^

Russian forces remain in Tajikistan from Soviet times. It consisted of Border Guard (Moscow and Panj border detachments) and mechanized infantry (201st motorized infantry division) with some air support. It's main duty – defend local population and Afghani-Tajikistan border. Border defense based on the net of independent frontier posts. Each post has a garrison of 40-60 men armed with small arms and grenade launchers. In the case of enemy attack on post Maneuver Group with armor and air support received orders to come and help. Border post's garrison must hold out until help arrived, then destroy or threw off enemy.

    ^

Frontier post #11 "Bug" is situated in Kulob region of Tajikistan in mountainous valley of Panj river. Valley about 600 meters width surrounded by 200-300 meters high mountains. Just North of border post situated Shpilhu pass. It leads to inner areas – to Shuroabod, just 20 km east of Kulyab.

Enemy started to cross the border at the evening, 29 May 1993. Weather cool and clear with gentle western wind.

    ^

Because all attempts to penetrate border on west flank, at Moskva area (in March 1993), and on east flank, at Leningrad area (in April 1993) were repulsed by our forces, Islamite decided to attack in center. The vanguards of intruders usually consist of conscripts received only basic military training. More trained enemy soldiers entered the battle only after when initial success achieved.

Frontier post #11 is located some 10 km from closest adjacent post. So reinforcements can reach this area after a long and difficult march. This post controls important part of border.

    ^

As a garrison commander you possessed a force of 41 men armed with small arms and grenade launchers. One platoon placed at barracks for rest, one platoon now on guard duty at border post and nearby fortified area.

Immediately after the enemies (about 100+ men) were sighted you send a request for support to higher headquarters. Because of beginning the hours of darkness you can expect reinforcements only within 2 hours. But 2 Mi-24 Hind helicopters were send for your support from airbase at Moskovsky. It have arrived within 40 minutes. You task is to hold out until help arrived.

    ^

Try to maintain casualties on low level. Do not waste ammo. You must immediately move all your forces at fortified defense area because houses of border post are death trap. Permanently control position of enemy forces to provide a precise aiming for airstrikes.

  8. Because English is not my native, could somebody check the spelling in briefings for my first CMA scenario?

    This for blue side:

In 1991 after the collapse of USSR Tajikistan became an independent state. Immediately struggle for power between different groups begin. This struggle leads in 1992 for full-scale civil war. Northern government with Russian support managed to almost destroy opposition. Islamic Opposition backed by Afghanistan's Ahmad Shah Massoud's forces pushed to mountain regions at south and east of country. All attempts undertaken at spring 1993 to support opposition with large military forces repulsed by russian's border-guards stationed here from Soviet times.

Tajikistan-Afghanistan border controlled by separate frontier posts and maneuver groups with armor and aviation. All head-on clashes with such forces are leads only to immediate defeat. Fortunately, Russian forces are small in numbers and poorly supplied.

    ^

After the Soviet withdrawal in 1989 and the collapse of Najibullah regime in 1992, Ahmad Shah Massoud, "Lion of Panjshir", seized a lot of weapons, just because he became a Ministry of Defense. During the Afghanistan civil war he tries to enlarge his controlled territory. And the Tajikistan civil war offers a great opportunities to him. Massoud's forces received huge reinforcements from tajik's refugees. Although they received only basic training, former refugees burn with a desire to return and establish Allah given law in Tajikistan. Massoud used these contingents as a vanguard. Then more experienced mujahedeen fighters – veterans of anti-USSR campaigns – will be thrown in battle.

The main target for planned offensive was city of Kulob (Kulyab). This city is suitable jump-off point for offensive to Dushanbe and to unite all Allah's forces in Qurgan-Tyube (Quorgonteppa) and Khorog (Khorugh) regions.

Action started at the evening, 29 May 1993. Weather cool and clear with gentle western wind.

    ^

Because all attempts to penetrate border on left flank, at Moskva area (in March 1993), and on right flank, at Leningrad area (in April 1993) were repulsed, Massoud decided to attack in center. Today the target is Border post #11. Located some 10 km from closest adjacent post it can't count on well-timed reinforcements arriving. This post control important part of border. If we managed to seize it, we can easily support our comrades in Tajikistan. Post's garrison consists of max 50 men without heavy weapons. Enemy reinforcements could arrive only by one road from North. If we seize the post, we can easily repulse them.

    ^

Your detachment counted 131 men armed with grenade launchers, MGs and small arms. Fire support provided by mortar battery (3x82mm mortars).

Soldiers have a lot of small arms ammo, enough rocket grenades. Mortars' ammo, unfortunately, limited.

Most of yours fighters are former refugees with only basic training. The only veterans are recon squad and soldiers from grenade launcher group.

We start at evening because this makes difficulties for enemy in redeployments of forces and in conducting of air support. You have around 2 hours to complete the mission before first enemy reinforcements will arrive on battlefield.

    ^

Advance impetuous with all forces. Do not conduct long outflanking maneuvers. Time is not on our side! But avoid a head-on attack too. The best initial position for attack is on western slopes of Hill 935.4. Attack and capture fortified defensive area. When enemy retreated to post shoot the buildings with grenade launchers. Then start a final attack.

Do not waste mortar's support. At the initial stage of battle make a short fire assault on post's houses. Next time use mortars before main attack to destroy enemy in trenches or houses.

  9. It's a game. It's not perfect. This trade off seems to've made with a bit of thought behind it. You may WISH for something different, but this is what it is.

I'm just want that infantry have a real chance to fight off enemy tanks in urban areas. As this was in real life, as this was in CMx1 games, as it was in CMSF. Not a lot, I suppose. Because how it looks now - it is total unrealistic.

And some strange logic for me - so, if tank stay near squad at open squad must reduced it size every given time to represent an failed attempts to put mine on top of tank?

Yes, I have read this. Good topic, the only thing that I can't see there is any post from BFC team.

  10. Tried it with german pioneers in a house vs british sherman.

1 pioneer-squad on the first floor (second-floor???), the platoon-hq on the ground floor.

They done nothing exept from shooting the tank-commander.

The tank then fires at the HQ which leaves the house. Exact after leaving the building the HQ begin to throw grenades.

The pioneer-squad throws greandes and demo-charges , too, after leaving the building.

This was with CW-Modul, patch 1.10.

    greetings, alex

I have the same results in 1.01

  11. Once the infantry is OUT of the house, they "close assault" a tank. They are no longer restricted to staying inside the structure, so, and this is NOT shown, but is simulated (my opinion/experience), one of the men can grab a satchel charge or a bundle of grenades and place it ON the tank.

So...most of the time a grenade flying through the air represents, well, a grenade flying through the air. SOMETIMES (especially against a closed-top AFV) a grenade flying through the air represents a man with explosives attempting to place the explosives on the tank.

Good point. But not without flaws.

    1. It is frequently stated that "what you see is what you get". So, if exist exceptions from this general rule, what exactly the exceptions? Because when I'm plan a battle, I must exactly know what expect from each position, course of action and so on.

    2. OK, we have some 'representations' in the game. What is about to represent man run out from building, placed a bomb on top of tank and run back to safety while tank makes BOOM?

So again, I haven't see the differences.
