  1. I'm still hoping that BF adheres to that rough schedule that they posted on the forums a while back.

If so, I would imagine that Market Garden would be the next module in the basically un-changed Normandy base game. (I think they have mentioned that there would be some new terrain added) This would be the CM:BNx2.0 base game.

Then, the Bulge might be a modified base game. (but not a completely new engine) ... similar to the way the CM:BB and CM:AK were tweaked versions of the CMx1 engine. ... Kind of like CM:BNx2.1 or something like that.

And I would hope that the Eastern Front releases follow the tradition and ad even more tweaks to the CM:BNx2 engine to better model some of the things necessary for the Eastern Front ... So I guess that might be something like CMx2.2 (This is the one I am really hoping for!!!)

...... Then, a Long Long time from now, in a computer Far Far away ... we might see the CMx3 engine for a ShockForce style game ... Or space combat against aliens!

Just my guesses ... but it would be cool if things worked out this way ... or at least through the Eastern Front games. I think BF has the ball rolling with this Normandy release and I hope they can take advantage of this momentum.

  2. Now, here's an interesting point: I do better at CMBN than the previous CMx1 incarnation. By nature I am a cautious player, and this seems to pay off in CMBN. Even a single casualty grinds with me.

My best advice is: Scout, scout and scout again!

What xian said. And also make sure that each foot you put forward is supported by a base of fire behind it.

You send your scout forward. He starts taking fire, and you have about 20 guys and a mortar in cover behind your scouts that open God's wrath upon the unlucky souls that decided to open up on those scouts. Your scouts in theory survive because the enemy is suppressed. .... while suppressed, move guys forward or flank to clear their positions.

Once fully clear, move forward and repeat.

That is the basic move .. and there are many variations on it .... but that is the "core" to advancing.

  3. Yeah. I noticed the the interior of the Churchill was not fleshed out as well as some of the other models in the original release.

But to tell you the truth, I think we only have ourselves to blame for that! ... constantly pushing for the release!!

However, I think the overall game is great. I would rather have it released now than have to wait another month while they put the finishing bells and whistles on the vehicles.

But then again, I never painted my models as a kid! ... And my miniatures were always a uniform lead color! ... I would much rather just play. And the physics are correct. That is what really matters ... and it's still rather pretty to look at to boot!

  4. Looks great and well woth the wait. Thanks Battlefront. Still no German Falschirmjager who fielded four divisions (2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th FJ divisions during the campaign,

They are going to be modeled in the Market Garden module. Steve and Moon were saying that FJ units are a little more complex (special weapons, special equipment, special tactics etc ....) They were going to need some extra time to get it right.

Therefore, that will most likely be one of the big features on the upcoming Market Garden release! ..... and then .... .it's on to the Bulge after that.

  5. I'm in an odd position because I'm a new convert to CM and have only played CMAK but, for some strange reason, I'm watching this release like a hawk waiting for all the new videos that hopefully accompany it. My comp won't play CMx2 so I just watch vicariously.

RikRaw. Go to NewEgg.com or some other discount online computer retailer and cobble yourself together a rig that will handle CM.

It is not very computer intensive. I'd be willing to bet that with a little creativity and patience you will be able to put together a rig that can handle this game (using some of your existing components of course) for around $150 - $200.

    Worth it in my opinion.

  6. Yeah ... please post a screen-shot or two for all of us who didn't want to opt for the pre-order for any one of the following reasons:

    - skirting VAT taxes

    - extra shipping charges

    - don't like "stuff" ... prefer digital only

    - Thought we would save BF some $$ by not getting the physical disc and S&H charges

Yep ... it is now *up to* 34 long, long, long hours and counting. :)

  7. It doesn't matter where you get mods from. Mods are made for existing versions of the game only. If you upgrade, you should always uninstall all mods and then reinstall them one by one to make sure they do work (or wait for the mod author to release an update or confirm if it works).

Thanks for the tip. That might be worth a "sticky" while people are getting the game up and running.

  8. You're correct.

    Hi Moon,

Correct. No import tax. .... but the taxman always wins with the dreaded VAT tax! (which is a good incentive for making a "download only" option also available for Pre-Orders)

Hey. There's a pretty sizable group of people on this forum who are saying: "Please take our $35 ASAP!" :)

  9. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. As I understand it UK orders will ship from Germany. Therefore, no import tax this time.

But the UK has a VAT tax that is independent of import tax. ... regardless of where it was made, it gets nailed with this percentage. (This is the same down in Mexico ... 16% down here)

In addition, there are the shipping charges to consider. .... and a lot of people just don't want the "stuff" ... I used to highly value my old vinyl records (and to a lesser extent my CD collection) .... but now I look at a music CD as something that takes up space. .... Music and Games are 100% digital for me. (even my books and magazines are going more and more that way too)

I think since this game applies to such a worldly crowd, team BF should just give the option to have a pre-order "Download Only" in addition to being able to opt for the physical disc if desired.

  10. Well that sucks. OK actually it is awesome, or it will be awesome once I can order it too.

Note to BFC: I would have gladly given you money for a pre-order but I have *no* desire to have any physical media mailed to me. Please, if you are going to give preferential downloading to those that pre-order - let those of us that only want a download to join the club

+1 ... Here Here! Just have two options for "Pre-Order" ... Download Only and Download+disc. BattleFront will actually make a little extra $ on that deal! (no need to ship and no need to make the disc)

  11. Nice news Battlefront ! Download was very fast and installation with no problems! Let's play and thanks for this great game!

you lucky, lucky bastard! Myself and the rest of the "download only" crowd have to wait for 36 HOURS to even have a shot at getting the game.

Please post some bones for the rest of us once you start playing.

  12. Crap! ... 36 HOURS!!! That is much, much too long! People will be playing it and posting comments on it by then!!!! ... I was going to pre-order and have the CD shipped to an family member's house or something (don't want to pay shipping and import taxes to ship down to Mexico) ... but thought it not worth wasting a CD and shipping .... hmmm .... I won't make that same mistake with Market Garden!! :)

  13. I know this has been brought up several times ... but I don't think there was ever a definitive answer ... or if there was, I didn't understand because I'm just too dumb!!

    1) Can I install Commonwealth as a separate game with it's 1.10 patch and still play CMBN with the 1.01 patch until I finish my ongoing PBEM battles??

    2) Can myself and my opponent install the 1.10 patch mid-way through an ongoing game?? If this was done, we would install the patch before playing the turn that processes the action.

  14. Thanks for the change-log. Mortar dispersion should be nice, added RAM will be REALLY nice, and the shooting too low will help a lot too. (Actually, a couple of pixle-Germans owe you their 1's and 0's due to this bug in the last H2H game I was playing)

... And to tell you the truth, I think we could see the mortars become MORE deadly with a higher dispersion. There have been many times where a 60mm mortar takes out a soft target in the first couple of shots ... but the rounds just keep plopping down in the same exact action-square .... the guys in the action squares in the immediate vicinity come through the thing unscathed ..... Looking forward to seeing how this can be used starting in 1.10.

Can't waid to play the CW module!

Are we there yet?? (F5) .... Are we there yet?? (F5) .... Are we there yet?? etc ....

  15. Hi sarge. Sorry if I was a bit abrasive!! But you are also correct. The German's had the THEORY for sure! .... They were, and still are a clever lot of people! Which is great when you don't have some madmen like Hitler and his Nazi's running the show!!!

But attrition on the eastern front (one heck of a meat grinder over there) and B-17s, B-24s and Lancasters pounding their industrial heartland and oil-refining facilities ...... Manhattan projects were just not a viable option (thank God)
