  1. Just an idea, but you can always go to menu -> cease-fire, if you are absolutely certain that the obj is cleared of enemies.
  2. Could it be that they are routing? I read that units who are routing just disappear from the battlefield.
  3. Ok, new question. Kinda. So Ive been concentrating on beating "Going to Town" (US Army) with very few casualties at all. With some experimentation, I developed this plan: Here is the basic plan: 1) I move my sniper, spotter, and a MG team to complex 2, labeled on the map. They cover the area around the ATGM field to their west. I then call in AP rounds in the ATGM field to eliminate the ATGMs there. Last I counted there were 2-3 of them there. I also move an HQ section to Complex 3. 2) I move 2 MG teams and an HQ section to complex 1 to cover the buildings to their west which I know contains enemy soldiers. One of the MG teams also covers the southern side of the government complex. I send the Stryker IFV that just dropped off the 2 MG teams and HQ section at the complex around the map to mop up any remaining ATGM teams that might be hiding in the field. 3) I send an MG team and HQ section to the warehouse in the north. From there they cover block 1 of houses, which I am 100% sure that enemy troops are holed up. I also send the Stryker around to cover the road next to block 1, so if the enemy tries to flee block 1 I can nail them with the Stryker, as well as the MG team in the warehouse. 4) I send one Stryker MGS to the warehouse to fire at block 1, to either pin them down or to destroy them. I send the other MGS to complex 1 to do the same with the government complex. Now it is time for the assault on the government complex. Until now everything has been going flawlessly, with no casualties. 5) I send one team of 3 infantry units through the market to assault the east and north sides of the complex. I only do this, by the way, once Im sure that the enemy in block 1 have been suppressed or destroyed. I send the other 3 units of infantry to assault the south side of the complex. They assault, and eventually secure the location. For some reason, I still take casualties. Not many, last time I had 6 dead and 7 wounded, but I would like to reduce those numbers, preferably to 0 dead. So far, Im thinking that I should move the MG team in complex 2 to block 2 so I can suppress the enemy in the government complex better. I probably should also call in a heavy arty strike on the middle buildings in the government complex. So what do you guys think?
  4. Ok, Im going to bump this. I have another question. Ive been playing a lot, but I cant seem to figure out the exact role of the HQ squad. I can only guess that they are there for command and control stuff, but Ive been looking through the manual and I cant find their exact use. I searched through the forum and I cant find it either.
  5. Ok so Im in the thick of things in CMSF and I love spending my time thinking up battle plans and new strategies, especially during boring classes in school, but I have to draw up by hand the maps and I often miss a building here or there, or some other important object on the map. Is there a place where one can download printable layouts of the maps?
  6. Speaking of graphics, my screen flickers whenever I give an order (basically, whenever I left click). Not sure why, but Ill have to play around with the settings. But of course, this is on my low-quality computer, not the one which can run Crysis on medium-high. Specs: Win XP Geforce 5500FX (yeah, I know its old) 2 gb Ram 3.58ghz single core intel processor
  7. Honestly, I dont remember, I didnt take a screenshot of it, but I had something like 8 dead, and about 50 (I think) red casualties. I dont remember the score.
  8. I dont know. All I know I got was an "adequate" for mission objectives or something. Im still trying to figure out what everything in the result screen means.
  9. I left an FO, HQ section, sniper, and AT unit. Not to mention a badly mauled unit of infantry. That should be enough, right?
  10. Well I had no problem with the mosque because no one was in it. Interestingly enough, the two versions of Going to Town differ between USMC and the army. The USMC are not allowed to touch the mosque, while the army has no such rules in the mission. Strange. Plus the USMC version has enemy BMPs while the army version has only ATGMs and other insurgents. Also, after the mission was over I pressed "review map" and no enemy was in the complex so I guess no one was hiding.
  11. Thanks for the tips Erwin. Ok new question- Why cant I seem to be able to secure objectives? I was playing USMC Going to Town, and there are four objectives: take and hold the warehouse and the government complex, touch the marketplace, and make sure no damage comes to the mosque. There are green boxes around the objectives which I assume tells you if you achieved it or not. I got rid of the green boxes around the warehouse and market, but I couldnt seem to get rid of the green boxes around the government complex. I dont know why that is, since I scoured the place with my Marines twice, and no enemies in the area. The mosque I understand why theres a green box around it since you have to finish the mission with it unharmed. In the end, the mission ended in a draw. I have no idea why. I had only 15 casualties, the Syrians had many more, and only a few AFVs lost. I think it could be an objective based reason. So whats the deal with objectives? The manual wasnt very clear. It told me that I had to keep troops in the area at the end of the mission to win, but if a unit of Marines plus spotters, snipers, and an AT squad isnt enough, I dont know what is.
  12. Well remember you are talking to a newbie who has zero combat experience.
  13. True, but its a lot harder when your recon team is knocked out very quickly so there is still a ton of area that was left unexplored. Brainstorming a bit, maybe I should do an "L" shaped recon route- move my recon unit down the far side of the map where they cant hit me, then speed as fast as they can across the map and see who opens fire.
  14. I agree, but its hard to do recon when theres a barrage of automatic fire, RPGs, and ATGMs coming at you. By the way, what are good recon tactics? Ive been looking around here for a guide of sorts but I fail to find any. Yeah, I understand your point, but you dont really get a good feel for the game. Oh well, at least I liked the ones I got enough to want to buy the game.
  15. My bad, it wasnt Strykers. They were those amphibious vehicles and LAVs. I was confusing it with the Army version of Going to Town. That one had the Strykers. About the British mission, a closer look told me that reinforcements are coming, but not for a while. And waiting around for 10 minutes doesnt really sound so appealing, honestly. I wish the demo included more than just one mission from each module. And I actually havent bought anything yet. Im still getting a hand on the demo before I make any decision.
  16. Ok so Ive decided to go with the Marines module. I played the British mission from the demo, and I didnt like it. Well, I couldnt even get past it. All I had were a few scout units, and approaching a heavily defended building in "Out of the wilderness" with such a weak force does not work. At least for a newbie like me. Maybe Im missing something? Do reinforcements come in at some point so I can make a substantial assault? I also played the German NATO mission Die Festung (it was about taking a castle from the Syrians). It was ok, but I feel like I need to re-examine how I approached that mission. I tried an assault from the western side (the side with all the infantry and no vehicles) with a smoke screen to cover them, but they couldnt scale the hill, so they went around, getting slaughtered by Syrian MGs. I then sent my mechanized force to assault with some artillery plastering the area before, but there must have been mines or ATGMs in the area because I lost one of my two tanks and two APCs, and an HQ squad in the process. I then retreated and ended the game when a Syrian ATGM destroyed the other tank, and then a mobile AA gun opened up on my troops who were mounting for an assault on the castle, killing/pinning most of them. I then tried USMC Going to Town. I really enjoyed it. I rushed two Strykers with infantry to the far objective, quickly securing it. I then surrounded the government complex and slowly assaulted it, as my Strykers put down supressing fire on the upper floors. So I think Marines it will be.
  17. Ah, thanks for the tip. So it can be assumed that mortars are ineffective against armor? And per my original question, what type of situation would call for one to exhaust rounds on a target?
  18. Well I had to think of something. The possibility of losing five Strykers within a few minutes is very scary.
  19. Ok so in a recent game I was beset by four Syrian tanks, all in a row. My tanks were a ways out, and wouldnt get there in time before all my Strykers, which were assisting my infantry as they cleared out a building complex, would be destroyed. But I had an FO on the hill so they could call in mortars. So I called in heavy barrage, with the "maximum" set for duration. I wasnt so sure what that meant, but I assumed that because they were tanks, I needed the "maximum." Not until later when I tried to call in support again did I realize that it meant "exhaust ammo supply on target." It was a clear mistake on my part, but I want to know what type of situations, in your opinions (Im just going to assume that most people here are very experienced) would call for the mortars to exhaust their ammo supplies? Just kinda curious.
  20. Awesome. Now all I have to figure out is how much I want new skins for infantry, vehicles, etc. But considering that I play in real time, I dont have time to zoom in on units, so it seems kinda pointless.
  21. So you are saying that a terrain/effect mod for the base game will work for modules like NATO?
  22. Looking at the Repository, Im seeing that NATO has very few mods. Im a big mod person, so Im guessing that I should go with Britain.
  23. Thanks for the info. NATO does look good, though the few bugs that you mentioned worries me. So I might go with British. Maybe if I skip a few meals I can afford the other two. Plus I also heard that there are some great mods for the British. EDIT: and what about mods that enhance textures and effects and other stuff like that?
  24. Ok, but which module, when you take into account mods and user made content, would you recommend as having the most content. I cant afford to spend more than $25 when it comes to modules, so no bundles for me.
