  1. Urg!  Really?   Yes really because I tried it again and yes they fire their MG's when open up command given.  The thing is, is that you do not need to do that with German HT.  The German gunner stays hidden and pops up when a target is seen.

    Any reason why that is?

Thanks for the response it was very helpful and Happy New Year.

  2. I've run into a problem with American halftracks not being able to fire their MG's.   Does anyone else have this problem.   I set up a QB and gave all my HT's fire orders first round but they refuse to fire.  Attached is my file (no password)

I started a ticket and part of John's response was for me to post here as well.  He is going to give my file to the beta testers.   I am curious what happens to the HT's if this file is played on a different PC.

    Thanks

  3. If after the first minute nothing happens give your tank a hunt command it will move, stop and shoot once the barrel has LOF If you have save games and can go back in time try it out and see what happens.

Just because you can "see" a target does not mean that the bore of the barrel can. All it means is that someone sees it. Yup it would be nice it the LOF/LOS target line showed what the barrel can see but unfortunately the game does not work that way.

  4. It is not fun that you can not create any valid plans because soldiers are blind and deaf.

    Really?

Is spotting perfect? No...... But it's not that bad that it makes the game unplayable.....but it does make it unpredictable at times, that makes it challenging and challenging can be fun. :):):)

  5. DasNoogie,

Spotting in the CMx2 engine cannot be calculated as is was in the x1 engine. The days of knowing exactly how far into the woods I need to put my men so they are not spotted but they can spot are over. It is much more of a "feel" kind of thing. Look at your environment from the soldiers point of view and go from there. Leave your men stationary for a few moves and they will spot things better. Are they VET or GREEN? All these things are taken into consideration and once you get it all figured out from good old trial and error......spotting will frustrate you some other way.

War is hell and spotting in CMBN/RT adds to that hell. LOL

Makes the game more fun when there is an element of surprise.

  6. PanzerMike:

Thanks for the hours of entertainment Trainspotting gave me. To be quite honest, I rarely if ever play against AI saving all my gaming time with PBEM, but I must say that I had a blast playing out your scenario. The map was well done and I felt the real need to recon every move. I was able to get a total victory playing out the whole scenario blind. The time limit was perfect as the game ended with 4 minutes left....I did not feel rushed....but....did not have any time to dilly dally either.

If I have some time I'll try and take a screeny or two or a video of the action.

    Cheers

  7. Okay, I had my playing partner set up the QB (same map) because he is the defender and it all worked good. When I set up the same map as the attacker I end up setting up in the defender zone. I remember this happening in CMBN when if first came out.....or am I just imagining things?

  8. The CM games have both strategy and tactics similar to Chess. In chess, strategy is take over center then move left....tactic, should my pawn take the Queen.

CM strategy......move along the left edge of map, pretend to move up the middle.....tactics....should I shoot at the tank with my hidden AT gun.

Unlike chess......in CM pawn does not always take Queen.....or see Queen for that matter. That's why I prefer to play CM

  9. Tankgeezer,

I am playing Angriff the scenario against a playing partner and I had the same (but worse.....much worse) thing happen to me.

Spoiler alert for those wanting to play the scenario:

I had reinforcements of 122's with infantry riding come in at the middle of the battle, I gave them reverse orders to a position on the map, but because they came in close to the edge of the map when 2 122's reversed they exited off the map edge....yes I got the same green arrows you would get for an exit scenario and everything.

    darn!

  10. And in that respect the water splashes are no different than being able to see a wall or hedge knocked over / blown through a kilometer away, even though no one on your side was even close to having LOS to said wall or hedge. Somehow we've made it through that just fine. :)

Agreed about the walls and hedges and I'll say again that although they are not gamebreakers they do give away FOW. Splashy footy prints are a bit different though.....for example. You are defending across a river that divides the map in two. You are understrength and cannot put eyes on all the different crossing areas but wait! you don't need to worry all you have to do is look at the river each and every PBEM turn to see where your opponent chooses to cross.

Can we live with it? I suppose but why introduce more graphics that go against FOW?

Walls and hedges can often (not always) be avoided....but rivers, streams....oh my! Sometimes you have to cross them. So the same but different I think.
