El Guettar - A custom map and mission by BroadswordMission description: On 23 March, 1943, the U.S. 1st Infantry Division was dug in east of El Guettar and bracing for an expected counterattack by the German 10th Panzer Division. The American positions were concentrated in the hills east of the oasis town and the Wadi El Keddab, leaving the Highway 15 corridor thinly defended and vulnerable to German attack. Daybreak brought swarms of Stukas and a furious artillery bombardment. Then came GenLt. Freiherr Von Broich's armored spearheads, bristling with more than 50 tanks. Like a creeping steel fortress, the panzers and armored infantry blasted westward through the El Guettar valley. Within an hour, Von Broich had overrun the forward U.S. infantry and artillery units, and was penetrating deep into the American rear area. This battle opens at the critical moment when German spearheads threatened to veer north and rush the gap between the Wadi and Point 336 -- an open door that had to be slammed shut to prevent a repeat of the catastrophic U.S. defeat at Kasserine Pass. The Americans' fate rests with an outnumbered force: a few tank destroyers from the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, elements of the 2nd Battalion/16th Infantry, and some exposed gunners from the 32nd Field Artillery Battalion. This scenario and map faithfully recreates a well-documented historical action that took place in the city of Ramadi, Iraq on April 6, 2004. 3 separated Marine squads are besieged in a sprawling residential area by hundreds of insurgents. Two mobile QRF platoons starting at opposite ends of the 1km x 0.5km map must locate and rescue them. Victory depends entirely on keeping US casualties below 5% of forces engaged. It will require a very different style of gameplay and urban tactics than you may be used to. Replayability should be high. I strongly recommend downloading my Islamic Cemetery and Improved Shopfront mods for use with this map. More...

This is a mod of the "blue" CMSF building facade adopted to create a colonnade or portico on the ground floor of a mosque (see thumbnails) I used transparent alpha channels on the ground floor in such a way that if you use the "2 windows + door + 2 windows" configuration on the smallest (1x1 square) building tile, it will look as if the wall has 5 colonnaded doors in it (even though only the "real" door is functional). In addition, the windows are all transparent (no panes). For best results, I also suggest using the "pointed arch" window/doorframe. More...

This mods the CMSF rural stone wall, using transparent alpha channels to break each segment up into chunks that resemble the undecorated above-ground crypts and cairns that make up traditional Islamic cemeteries. By randomly scattering various wall segments inside a walled area, together with the occasional trench, crater and tree, you can create a nasty little battleground that is effectively impassable to vehicles. NOTE: Up very close the mod looks a little crude, but at any kind of distance it will pass quite nicely for the real thing. More...
