  1. I tried this, random service and mixed force, and ended up in the same situation as the OP again and and again. And no, I was not able to choose airborne troops. In fact experimenting with this I noticed that I canĀ“t get airborne troops even if I want to in a QB. What setting do you use to get them?

    M.

What month did you select? If I remember correctly, Airborne are only available in June and July.

  2. From p5 of the Brits Manual (bold emphasis mine):

The easiest way to explain these differences is to use the

original US Army/Marines content to compare against. The

smallest infantry unit fielded by the British is the Fireteam,

with four men. Two Fireteams make a Section, which is

called a Squad in the US military. Infantry formation names

above Section are identical with the US.

Yes, but he is talking about the US Army IBCT. Not the British Army. But since they are recon units (cavalry), I think they use the same terminology. The following indicates a dismounted Recon Troop:

  3. I had the exact same issues with QBs as have been mentioned. Did anyone of you tried to get a save game from this? Normally, when i take a save from a QB the save file gets named Schnellgefecht 00X(german for Quickbattle), but when it does not work the save name is totally weird, i made a picture and posted it here:

For me QBs seem to work now after i had to do a complete Windows reinstall (actually 2 reinstalls...), didnt see this problem again since i installed CMSF+Marines. Probably not an option for anyone though...

I just uninstalled CMSF, CMSF:Marines. I then installed CMSF from the CD (I had to burn it to an image file, use Daemon tools to install it since none of my CD/DVD drives would work; I click on install and the CPU sits at 52% and nothing happens). Then I installed CMSF V1.08. Quick battles worked just fine, no shifting sides. Then I installed CMSF Marines (download version). Quick battles worked just fine. Then I installed CMSF Marines V1.11. Then the QB don't work any more and I get switched to the other side. Is this an issue with V1.11?

I'm going to do this again and leave the game at V1.10 until this mess is cleared up.

  4. Well, it is a strange one that's for sure. People that are experiencing it are seeing it a LOT, others aren't seeing it at all, some others see it occasionally. There are a number of different things to consider, hardware being one of them.

    /snip/

I'm sure it's not that bad this time around, however clearly something is amiss! We're doing some intensive stuff right now so it will be a week or so before Charles is back into debugging mode. The testers are doing a fine job keeping the internal tracking of this problem up-to-date so that when Charles gets back to debugging stuff this should be in the top 2 or 3 issues he deals with first.

Any update on this issue yet? Will a fix make it into the next patch?;)

  5. I have mentioned it before, but just wanted to note that I have this problem frequently, and have always had it in CMSF (I bought the game after the first patch, I believe). Just last night I went through 5 attempts in a row to start a QB and was switched to the other side everytime. Several of these attempts were with different map and force selections.

Another thing to note is that I always know this is going to happen before a scenario even loads, as the loading hangs up and takes forever (for example, last night it stopped at 77% each time for a minute or more before finally loading).

I tried a few more QB again and paid attention to the load time. I have the same loading issue that you noted; it gets to 77%, then hangs for a while. Then shifts me to the other side. This happens 100% of the time; QB's are completely broken on my machine. One time I had to give it the Ctrl-Alt-Del and end the process.

  6. Hi all

Just got CM:SF Marines for Christmas and I am trying to get it to work. Before I go any farther, I want to point out that I previously had vanilla CM:SF installed and patched to v1.11 and had these same problems. I started with a new, fresh install of both CM:SF and Marines and patched (yes with the correct patch) Marines to v1.11.

The problem is that with QB's (and maybe scenarios/campaign, havnt tried yet) the mission will take FOREVER to load. I would say 5 to 10 times as long as they did in v1.10. Then, once it does load, when I try to get it to run the first turn in turn based, it will switch me to the other team and switch to real time. Also, I can always tell that it is screwed up because if I try to save the quick battle, all I see is gibbersih in the save name line.

So to be more clear, I will place all my Marines, give orders and hit 'Go'. Then it will switch to the Syrians *and* switch from turn based to real time. I never had this problem pre v1.11 and again, it was happening with both vanilla CM:SF and now Marines.

Have anyone else ran across this? Is it just me?

    Thanks in advance

    Chad

I am having the exact same problem. I just put together a new computer last week and installed CMSF and then CMSF:M. Then I installed V1.11. After I set up my initial orders during a QB, I hit the go button and get switched to the other side. Is this a bug?
