  1. Sounds good, max level 12 elite reinforcements. That's worth serious concideration. I hate seeing those level 14 or 15 bulldozer units that wipe out enemy units with 1 shot. Especially the tac air units. Although to be honest I have never had any units except German fighters ever reach level 15, so I have only expierienced them from the open end of a muzzle.

Wait until you get german armoured units at 15 strength, fully researched. There is simply nothing that stops these units.

  2. Wait to you see Panthers taking on T70s in 1941 as a Russian player. Now that's an experience!!!

I did a mod for the middle of 1937 and I set heavy tank values for all countries to 0. Of course one of the first things I did was invest 5 chits in this tech, but of course no hits and the Russian tanks become the joke of the Wehrmacht.

Luckily for me the AI didn't know how to use them, and for whatever reason I got good AT tech so my tactical bombers chewed them up. Anyone want to take a wild guess at how many chits I put into that tech?

1 chit in 1941, and in four turns I had level three anti tank weapons. It took me to 1942 to get one hit in heavy tanks, and to 1944 to get three lol.

  3. Generally I don't like to criticize technicalities, but the manual was unsatisfactory to say the least. Naturally it doesn't have to be in a DVD case, it could have been wrapped separately, and or just put outside the mail envelope, and marked as fragile. I'm fairly certain that nobody would have been opposed to this.

On top of that about 10-15 of my pages were already ripped out, and to say the least the rest needs an electronic microscope to read. It's like the "fine print" in a contract; only thankfully it won't cost a lot of money and distress.

Once again it's silly to complain about this as I can just print my own manual out, and probably will as this game has changed from other expansions.

Personally though I'm disappointed at the game in general. I just feel like Hubert and company didn't perform to the expectations they should have. This probably was the hardest game they put out there, but it still wasn't anywhere near what I was expecting. Obviously you can't please everyone, and I'll still continue to be one of battlefront (Hubert's) best customers, but I have to hope they will step it up a notch.

  4. Hi Robert4260,

A word to the wise, it would be a smart idea to have it in the "Games" folder instead of the "Program" folder. This is extremely important if you have Vista, as even as an Administrator you won't be able to edit any scripts as there in the "Program" folders. You also avoid a few other problems, one of which you mentioned in your post.

Of course it's also annoying, as you will have to uninstall it and then reinstall it, restarting you're computer twice, but it becomes extremely helpful once done.

  5. The game's great so far I haven't run into any problems worth noting. The AI's turn is something of amazing speed, almost to the point were the sound effects are behind the actually attack/movement.

The one thing that I think the game could improve on is making the editor faster. Fact is it took me about 3 hours to design a scenario, which if I was doing it in PDE, it probably would have only taken 45 mins. I do of course realize the maps huge, and therefore it slows the editor down. However it's not just the huge lag if you will, but the fact it's so out of sink. It made me realize why there are only 4 campaigns, it must have been torture! What I mean by saying the editor is out of sink is that when you try and change borders of countries it's just annoying, and goes extremely slow. This is my only complaint, other then that great game guys :).

  6. To be honest Hubert suffered some sort of back injury, which hampered the production of this game, because he couldn't sit behind a computer. With that said you now throw into the picture the fact that Moon and other members of the administration staff here at battlefront don't want to get caught with a release when there is maintenance on the server, and you quickly understand why the game's been pushed back.

I believe Hubert placed an estimate somewhere on how far his back injury set him back; I believe it was roughly 6 weeks. So then in the hypothetical of Hubert not being injured the game is put out on the market in early to mid January, and the first patch for it is either released or almost complete, fixing all the problems that come up. This is a course just a hypothetical situation, and life has a way of going down a path you hadn't planned, and this seems abundantly clear to me in the making of SC Global. With all this said believe me battlefront isn't going to rob its customers, just hang in there, I'm sure everyone who wants the game will have it much before May.

The only real question I have about SC, and Hubert is what will they do after this? A while back Moon mentioned Hubert was going to make two expansions, the first was SC PT, and of course the second was SC GC. So where to once you fix SC GC up? That I have absolutely no idea on.

  7. I've got a really bad feeling about this, but do to the fact it will save me loads of time I have to ask it any way. Will I be able to import files from SC PT to SC Global? If so I could import my Europe mod for 42' and my better known Midway mod, fix everything up, and release it within a few hours! Instead of many days/months.

  8. While in hindsight it may have been better to officially announce this game a bit later, keep in mind that we were hoping to have things wrapped by Christmas and likely would have been had I not injured my back, those few months took much more out of me than I was expecting as I had a lot of trouble sitting at the computer for quite a while.

Sometimes a lot is within our control but often the most random thing can happen that is completely out of your control and this is unfortunately the case with what happened for this game.

But, and this is a big BUT, the game is really shaping up and the main campaign is playing fantastically well both in multiplayer and against the AI. Really all we have left is to put the finishing touches on the remaining campaigns and we are about 75% there. So when I say we are close, we really are close.

As an aside, this game is a huge project and not one that is easily completed as we really are talking about the whole world, with Europe, Africa, Asia, the Pacific and so on all taken into account by the AI with land units, air units, naval units, amphibious assaults, transports, fleets, fleet screens etc., which not very many (similar) games can handle or have handled well.

Hopefully this also recognizes some of the other posts that ask when the game will be done and why it takes time and really why I often do not have the time to post as often as I would like.

As mentioned before, we are getting there and will hopefully be there soon enough :)

    Hubert

Believe me when I say this I'm not complaining, I'm just making a general observation. Of course random events do happen in life, and all you can do is adjust to them.

Fact is I would be fine with waiting to February if it meant that the game would be better.

  9. Look at it this way. The longer it takes the better it will be, and hopefully there will be only a few bugs.

I do have to wonder though if this might have been released (title), a little bit too early. There has been speculation about this game for a very long time (every since SC2 v1.08). In conclusion though I'm sure this game will meet if not virtually annihilate it's very high expectations.

  10. Well maybe if enough people want it they will implement it. I was just talking of an email that I sent to Hubert about 6 months ago. All isn't lost, but you have to wonder if there isn't a majority of people that want it, why would they use it?

To be honest I would love to see this feature being used, as I think it will add some variety to the game. However if they don't use it I don't think it will seriously lower the quality of the game by any means.

  11. Okay well at least I know I'm not the only one who thought of something like this. I posed the question to Hubert, and was turned down, based on two reasons. The first was that it would be too much work to create the codes to allow this to occur. The second reason was that he didn't think it happened enough to throw it in there. Realistically it's probably not the most urgent thing, but I would like to see it sometime.

I find it hard to believe that it would complicate the game. That assumption I believe is farfetched. With that said I'm not sure if the amount of work that would be needed to do this would outweigh (probably under weigh) the results. Lastly I have a very strong if not definite gut feeling that it probably won't show up for a very long time.....
