Thanks for the suggestion, I will take a look. At this point not demanding super-realism, although I'm not really a fan of RTS.
My favorite part of Steel Division 2 is the Army General turn based operational level (battalion level units) battles can be fought in super detail (RTS mode) tactical mode with individual tanks, squads, planes, and artillery pieces OR skip the detailed battles and have the battalion stats determine the outcome of the battle. Not typical RTS as commanders and leaders lend support to the units and ranged fire is taken into account. All in all, this game is a pleasant surprise.
As an old hex and counter wargamer, I asked the developer on the Steam Board to slow down the RTS speed. I cannot take a click fest. The developer asked me what speed I would be comfortable playing the game - I asked for .33 of normal speed. Hope they institute it in the game. That would make it palatable to wargamers.

Excuse me for mentioning a non-grognard RTS game BUT, Steel Division 2 (operation Bagration) is a lot of fun. It manages to throw enough "semi-realistic" attributes to keep ones interest. I am enjoying the Army General portion of the solo game. Passes the time between Combat Mission releases!
I'll duck now and prepare to be YELLED AT.

Regarding CMSF2: I purchased the base game from Paradox and all modules from BF. Will I still be eligible for the discount?

Hasn't the claim that Prokhorovka was the largest tank battle in history been documented as false by various modern studies?
How does Kursk as a whole stack up as the largest tank battle if you include German 9th Army, 4th Pz Army, AD Kempf and the three Soviet fronts?

WW2 justified by former German soldiers
Wonder what the post war generations of Germans think?

Just follow the trail of massacared villages.

Have you tried the Storm Eagle games?
Or NWS's Steam and Iron? Minimal graphics but fantastic game play.
-
You are welcome. The Squad Battles series shines when representing infantry actions. Tanks are more abstractly represented (not necessarily a bad thing). That being said, WW1 infantry actions are well modeled by the system.
-
You can demo the Squad Battles series by downloading the Grenada free game. There is (as far as I know) no demo for First World War. If you like the Squad Battles series, the First World War game is one of the best.
-
Try John Tillers WW1 Squad Battles game. You can see the evolution of small unit tactics over the course of the war by studying the game's oob's and tactics.

Bad guys - Gulags, Starvation, & Ethnic Relocation.
Badder guys - invasion for the purpose of eliminating entire populations.

BF does seem responsive to constructive nagging. So, let's keep making polite but firm request posts about how much we want an updated CMSF everywhere that is appropriate.
Ok BF - here it is: What do we want? - an updated CMSF!
When do we want it? - asap as long as it doesn't interfere with Bagration!
-
Steve has mentioned that BF may update CMSF to current CM2 WW2 module standards.
I that interests you it would be a good idea to post about that or send e-mails to BF supporting the idea.
I would certainly support and pay for that!

no, it won't ! Sorry, i was away from games because I was very busy with my job! I don't know if i'll have time to release the ToW1 part because the units need to be reworked with 3DS Max, but at least, i'll release these parts (even without new scenarios):
-Kursk/ Caen
-Afrika
I'm still waiting for scenario creators though! At the moment we have only one new battle (by Arzok). Fortunately, i was able to make the Mission Generator working for the Kursk/Caen maps and units.
Any estimate when any of the new content may be released?
-
The first part of his mod was ready (Kursk in Korea), as far as I understand.
Has it been posted anywhere?

I'm sure a tremendous amount of effort was expended by Tartari to get as far as he has.
Thanks for the effort.
Pity that a system as accurate and entertaining as TOW has been allowed to die by its publisher.

I think its Graviteam Tactics Operation Star. Great system by the way.

57. Bought Phalanx from SPI and Panzer Blitz from AH in 1971 and never looked back.
-
I was like that for a while, then I mentally overcame it, sold it and never looked back. I did keep a copy of all the scenarios. Once in awhile I take one and convert it to CM. So I feel it has not been lost totally in that sence.
You can give your collection to me in your will, I would not want then to go to waste....
I keep up my ASL habit in the event of a zombie invasion and I have no electricity to play CM.
-
What a lie
Just turn around and sell them while you can.
I played them things for close to 20 years and then I parted with them and had more money in my pocket than I ever spent on them. One of the few great moments in my life when I found I had something worth more than when I bought it new.
I will never sell my $1,000's of dollars of ASL gear. It is going with me to my grave. I continue to buy everything new and never play it! I guess I need help.
-
Moet:
I understand your point. However like most here, I believe the cost of CM-2 is fair and as long as BF provides new content and updates I will continue to purchase them.
I guess you don't play ASL? When I think of all the ASL products I've purchased (many times multiple versions), CM-2 seems VERY INEXPENSIVE by comparison.

I want to second lemonade's comment. I check this forum twice a week to see if there are any updates on Tartari's project. I think the TOW series has the potential to be the best tactical sandbox for the PC. I appreciate Tartari's dedication to TOW and applaud his efforts.
I never understood 1C's business model regarding TOW. They treated the series like any other RTS game. They never understood the grog wargame community or market. Of course, they may have decided catering to the grog wargame market is not profitable.
I never thought TOW received the interest it deserved even from hardcore gamers. We have to be thankfull that people like Tartari devote so much time and effort into keeping the game alive and moving forward.
-
Tartari:
I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your hard work. I wouldn't be suprised if your mod increases sales of TOW3.
Thanks again for your dedication to this fine series.
-
This looks brilliant, TOW always has had huge potential but failed in the replayability and predictability areas.
I gave up after TOW2 but may buy TOW3 if this WW2 transformation pack works out. Providing there are full instructions suitable for a non tech head like me because at the moment I would not have a clue as to how it's going to work
Amen Brother! I could never get the extractor to work. Hope there's a simple installer for this when released.

I'll purchase Fire & Rubble first day. Right now I'm immersed in GMT Panzer & MBT as well as Graviteam Mius Front. Too busy to spend time wishing for something that will come when it comes.
