Realizing of course that even in a multi-player game you'll still find the AI spotting, firing at and hitting targets it can't actually see.Originally posted by Krull:If people responded to the negative feedback in a civilised manner there wouldn't be all the BS.
The box of which i speak is abstract.
It has a multiplayer tab in-game that does not function. Many people have this problem from what i see.
Given that playing against the AI doesn't really fly i thought i'd cut out the problem where i could & have at it with a human player.
But i can't do that either.
In my opinion that means the title is pretty flawed & unplayable. In multiplyer totally unworkable.
Cunningly crafted ambushes? On what's nothing more than a snooker table with terrain features that are purely abstract and, to all intents and purposes, totally transparent?
The only thing left that continues to beggar my belief is how anyone can defend this game for longer than the time it takes to play a single battle.
-
And that's a perfectly valid point. But you can hardly trash the entire game on that single issue. I guarantee that if you use less hyperbole you might actually have a hand in fixing whatever problem you, and I assume others, are experiencing. </font>Originally posted by Sirocco:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by Krull:

Very well said.Originally posted by Ghost1:Elvis...I understand and respect the views and comments you make..My beef is that some people seeemingly post to these forums and are defending obvious bad flaws in this game. The fact that some love the game and others hate it is not really what I'm getting at..
Let's just take a couple of concerns, framerates, why should a game come to an almost crawl when I play it with well over the basic system limits? why, when I want to play mulitiplayer does it crash? YES, everytime. There are of course many more problems that have been aired which I will not go into again. Can ALL the people that are suggesting that this game has major flaws be wrong?....
Many, I know, say they are playing the game with no problems, well, can I have their game please? because I must be playing something totally different.
In my opinion this game was not finshed or optimised for whatever reason, Battlefront, again in my opinion should have realised this and kept well away.
I have well over 100 games on my shelf new and old, all had some problems out of the box I will agree, but I can honestly say that NONE played as badly as this. So to reflect on my earlier post in this thread, yes, it does seem that some of the kudos, and I may add, blind praise given to this game may indeed come from people closely associated with it, (and as I stated, "in my opinion") and what's more I stand by every word.
Now if some mod or whoever wants to ban me or say I need medical help so be it, but it will never alter the FACT that this game is not finished, not optimised, and should never have been released in the obvious mess it is.

Me? Select ammo? That's what I pay my crews for. Or are they incapable of doing what the computer AI is capable of doing? Eg, selecting the correct ammo.Originally posted by rune:Ahh...what ammo did you select? What part of the tank did you aim at? What range was it and how do you know?
Rune
Oh, I just considered the ramifications of that one...along with coping with all the other mayhem on the battlefield, we're supposed to run around all our tanks telling the loader which ammo to use? Hello, Speedy Gonzales come in, me right hand's about to drop off and me mouse is on fire.

Too many Tigers going down to T34s, not enough T34s going down to Tigers. So far I'm seeing roughly 50-50, and that's plain wrong.Originally posted by rune:Well considering I had authors check the guns and penetration value, show me one soviet gun on a German tank and vice versa. A single one.
Rune
Course, it would help if the player's Tigers could hit the side of a barn, much less actually spot a T34 in plain view. Computer AI has no such limitations...any range, any angle, any obstacle, one-shot kills abound.
Game's a turd, end of.

Apparently it's all down to a highly sophisticated system that we're just too dumb to appreciate.Originally posted by spec124:You know, spotting tanks through trees is one thing if they're moving, spotting infantry is another. MY men, no matter how many trees are between them and the enemy are always spotted and shot. I click on my men and ALWAYS get the smae message - no matter WHO I click on: "Don't have LOS." I would assume that my infantry are not wearing orange hunting jackets and running screaming through the trees to be seen by every enemy soldier to pick them off. But I guess I would assume wrong. How on earth do I bring a bazooka to bear on enemy armor? I can't sneak up on it. There's no where to hide. I suppose if I hid next to a building and waited for the off chance that the armor would pass right by me I could get a shot off. Of course the moment the armor came into view he would see me and shoot me before I got a shot off. If something amazing is going on in the game with some kind of crazy realism the rpoblem is the player has no idea what is happening. Why can this guy see and this guy can't? Am I covered or am I not? Is grass cover or just for show? How bout this rock? I had three guys taking shots at one enemy soldier... well, sort of. It seemed that while he was able to take cover behind a tree (maybe, who the hell knows), my men were too stupid to take cover and shoot. He picked each one off while standing next to a tree. Okay, maybe he's a mean shot, but let's get real; the enemy force can't all be made up of the best soldiers! While there is a bit of fun in this game it needs some serious overhauling. What's this I understand??? No 88's?? You've got to be kidding!!!!!? How long has this game been in production? And I can't beleive the things that are missing. Waypoints? Hello?
Sorry - I'm not even impressed with the graphics - while it's cool to zoom in to a fully 3d world on such a large scale it's a bit lackluster as far as effects go. And maybe they're not such a big deal to some but it is kinda fullfilling to blow crap up. I don't get the impression that anything is blowing up. Just some patches of smoke. It's a bit disappointing. No craters, no foxholes, no concealment (ok - some have claimed it's there, how would anyone know?). I'm still playin', but it's tough to make sense of what can't be made sense of.

According to this system ambushes just weren't possible in real life, and never happened.
Go figure.

Real money's involved. Our's. That's about as grown up as it gets.Originally posted by von Ribbentrop:C'mon guy's grow up.

So does that mean that when my man is hidden in long grass, behind a bush, prone, an enemy tank one kilometer away won't be able to spot him and then kill him with the first round it fires?

Again, fair enough. You *do* have a forum.Originally posted by jdevlin:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by BillyBob:

Wait until Magnum's review (senior admin at Sim.HQ), that'll tear your "predictions" all the way to hell and back.
I'd like to remind you, however, that it wasn't me making the predictions, explicitly.
Have fun hating the game! </font>

...And I further doubt your ability to make a post that isn't slathered in hyperbole. Use of eloquent words doesn't automatically make one eloquent, nor does it automatiocally make your points valid.Originally posted by jdevlin:</font><blockquote>quote:</font><hr />Originally posted by BillyBob:

Vast majority? I guess you have to believe what you have to believe. I meant to ask you - who is this vast majority? Do you have meetings? A forum I can go visit?
Or is it just you in your armchair, playing video game industry analyst?
Fair enough - you have made your claim. We'll see whats what in a couple of months. Just totally beggars belief.
Put St-Lo on novice setting. Bunch of Shermans come the same way eventually, up the hill on the right flank. I send a MkIV and a Panther around and bounce the Shermans on their left flank. One Sherman goes down, followed by my MkIV. Then the Panther is sitting facing three Shermans, about 100m between them, while the Shermans pound the un-damaged Panther repeatedly and I'm screaming at the Panther to return fire (crew were fine, no wounds etc). It didn't fire a single shot in return, and eventually had it's turret trashed.
You can't play a game like this, you simply can't. It's trash. Panther just sitting there, taking round after round from three Shermans in plain sight just 100m away and doing nothing, not even taking aim. Me hitting the fire button, no messages coming up, nada.
And all at 6fps.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, I've got two Nashorns both firing and taking fire through multiple tree canopies. There's no way in hell either lots of crews could see each other. It makes a total mockery of cover and concealment.
I'm done with this farce so far as offline play is concerned. I can understand console-bashing kids getting some measure of entertainment out of it, for the eye-candy alone, but seasoned PC grognards?
When a game reduces a player to a screaming rage it's time to put it down and walk away. I'll give the MP a go, whenever somebody at 1C/BF deigns to fix what should have been working in the first place.
-
I'll try St-Lo on a lower setting then, and see what happens.
-
Rather than me write yet another laundry-list why don't you go read all the other posts in all the other threads, that should give you a good idea.Originally posted by Destraex:Billybob apart from LOS how is this game not realistic?
God, I hate it when devs put Soviet guns on German tanks and German armor on Soviet tanks. If you get my meaning.
-
I tried the first mission in the German campaign, and actually laughed out loud as a gang of weird little Polish tanks chased down every last surviving tank-crew at different points all over the map. Didn't matter where the individual crewmen were, it was like they were wearing radio beacons and firing flares.
I'm laughing, but this game shouldn't be about farcical comedy.

Something, for sure. When you've released something as superb as the CM series you really need to protect the reputation that generated, because it's far easier to fall than to climb.Originally posted by Vegeorite:Lack of imagination.

And I think most of us now realise why Codemasters dropped this game PDQ.
Shame BF didn't catch on and save their hitherto blemish-free reputation.
-
Another review by some tart who's played the game for five minutes, been overwhelmed by the eye-candy, but doesn't actually have a clue what he's talking about.
Realistic? That's the funniest thing I've heard since watching a Dylan Moran video.

Max, on the basis that reducing the level introduces worse anomolies than an overwhelmingly omnipotent AI opponent. Like opposing troops standing feet from each other and doing nothing but admire the scenery.Originally posted by Elvis:BillyBob, what skill level are you playing the game on?

Moving Tigers may create a din, but the din from the battlefield would have drowned out a battleship.Originally posted by Vegeorite:OK, new information.
Moving Tigers create a din.
Were the Tigers exposed while the FFs near/in cover???
I must say that Tigers on the 'Death's Highway' (?) battle seemed weak to me against Cromwells but then again what was the difficulty level I was running???
I dunno, you might be right but so far I have found LoS/LoF reasonable when the game's design rules are applied.
Both Tigers were coming around the blind side of the hill on the far right flank, right at the edge of the map. The only visible icons were one Firefly's and about five infantry-men, all on the other side of the map, engaging my forces on the left flank. Had to be about a kilometer away. Between the two (Tigers and Firefly) were hills, trees and bushes.
All I could see from any of the tanks were the others' icons.
Obviously there was a LOF, otherwise the Firefly's rounds could not have physically reached the Tigers. But LOS? According to my Tiger crews they couldn't fire back due to lack of LOS, so how did the Firefly crew manage it?
This is mainly what is destroying this game, the utterly bogus AI and it's overwhelming omnipotency. Add the lousy FPS, even on uber computers, and there's little left to engage the player. Sod-all actually.

I believe this current version is a six-month patch on the Russian version. So don't hold your breath for anything more. If they couldn't get this turkey squared away in six months of extra development time...Originally posted by huhr:Any idea of when a patch will come out and/or are they actually working on one?
