So are Dragon ATGMs any good?

Short range, very visible firing signature, and a very odd and limited maneuvering system that involves "bursts" from collections of small charges around the missile. A friend of mine was a Dragon gunner and they expected that their life expectancy in a shooting war was minutes. T-62s should be fairly vulnerable to them, but more modern equipment might do better when hit by one.

AFAIK Syria didn't get the T-72M until comparatively recently, their initial deliveries were Urals or T-72As (IIRC they were the only non-War-Pac nation to field the T-72A).

I thought that T-72A and T-72M1 were the same thing. The T-72M was specifically an export variant that the Warsaw Pact states were allowed to produce and sell to others.

  2. I know that CMSF2 deals with a fictional timeline where an invasion of Syria happens in 2008, but most of the gear from that timeline is in use in the very real Syrian Civil War of today. I wonder if there is any chance for an expansion that would deal with the civil war and include some things that have been used in it, which aren't in the current game, like TOS-1, up-armored VBIEDs, and the IRAMs that the Syrians have used. I know that I'd be interested in such an expansion and I'd be surprised if I'm the only one.

  3. As regards the ABM, the rounds can be fired in 2 or 3 round bursts (forgot which, I'll have to check after work tomorrow) or as singles. They can also be programmed to act like normal HE rounds and detonate on impact. In the ABM mode they can be used against helicopters or ground targets IIRC. I don't think they have a proximity mode though.

It has a rather low ready ammo store, so they can blow through ammo quickly, and they aren't that quick to reload as I remember.

Now, I agree that I do have the time to post updates about the state of CMSF2 more frequently.  However, each post would be a different way of saying this:

"Things are taking longer than we expected.  The game is looking great, but the final details are not in place to allow us to release.  When we are really sure we've got those details settled, then we will let you know and release soon after".

It will be worth the wait for the kinks to be ironed out.

The obvious question out there is "when will CMSF2 ship?" We're aiming for no later than the end of September. However, we'll soon release a demo with 4 battles and a training mission. That should help keep you occupied for a while.

This made me pre-order more then a month ago (if I recall it right the first statement was end of August).

I pre-order'd the big bundle although I already own CMSF (because I believe BF is worth the money). Still I am getting pissed of because there is no word what so ever. And for the love of the almighty- it's the communications not the lack of a release date that makes me angry

I did the same. But what are they going to do? Say "oh, a nasty bug popped up and we are trying to resolve it"? That is probably a good thing to assume is what happened. I expect it will be released whenever they fix the issues.

You'll all have to eat your words when the game comes out on Monday, September 30th.

    🤣

Will it actually be out by Monday? I dunno.

It's too bad, because this is the only two-day weekend I have this month, and I was looking forward to playing.

If that happens I'm taking a sicky on Monday. I think I feel a cold coming... :cough:

Outside this board, there is a relatively strong opinion that BFC does not like their customers.  You can argue that it is an unfair perception, and in your own view you are correct.  Just walk over to grogheads and you will see a pretty fair number of senior wargamers who very much dislike Steve's approach to customer communications.  Even some of the people that defend BFC concede that Steve rarely helps BFC's cause.

This thread is a perfect example.  Not a word from anyone official from BFC.  Less than five minutes is all it would take.  Instead you  have beta testers and and customers flailing at each other to reinforce the perception.  If beta testers really cared, they would stop coming into these threads.  Let them die out once people have vented.  It is the most successful strategy I have seen work.

It's my impression that the bulk of the folks at Grogheads have a fairly unrealistic view as regards customer service. I've seen it with other games of similar dev team sizes where they have heaped abused because of "x, y or z."

  8. However, as always - there is an "X-factor" with the rebels of what is theirs and what is Russian proper. For instance - there was recent footage of a 2S19M1 battery and supporting vehicles moving somewhere around Debaltseve and it is pretty safe to assume that it was not a rebel unit, but rather Russian "vocationers"....

I haven't seen the footage so I have a potentially silly question. The question that I have is how do you know that the footage was in the combat area? Were there destroyed vehicles in the area or other evidence of combat, or was it just labled as such?

  9. I don't know about anyone else, but me, personally, I would pay 50 dollars or more for an update to CMSF to bring it up to date with the newest Combat Mission games as regards the features. Especially if some of the graphics were worked on. Its definitely been a favorite of mine through the years and its definitely topical.

I'll crawl back into my cave now.
