  1. The steelbox arrived at my desk in the city of London at 11.40am! Says on the envelope - Mailing Office Stamp 24 May United States Postal Service Priority Mail. Customs declaration CN22. US postage and fees paid. Today at 5.30pm local time I will - rush home, put cd in pc, rush dinner, [get indigestion], start Combat Mission Battle for Normandy........at last!!!
  2. Thanks Sneaksie, will give it a try.
  3. Engineer units every time...read ww2 books on them. If there's a problem...send for the engineers it seems!
  4. Hi Guys, First of all I havent read EVERY post. So if this has been covered, please direct me to where it is and I will read it. Couple of points. Ive played Combat Mission for years. I would come in from work, dinner on, then build a scenario from scratch...village, hills, rivers, bridges, factories, railway junction, etc. Pick MY OWN AND ENEMY FORCES and fight. Easy, non complicated, fun. Then there's Theatre of War Kursk. Played the tutorial. Love the graphics. Love the individual soldiers. AI looks good so far...BUT. When i come to set up a simple scenario on the generator what happens. Why cant I hav a scout team with a platoon hq and an infantry unit and an hmg? [Advise me if Ive missed something]. Why are they blocked out? Ad hock battlegroups [as long as they were historically available] are a fact of war. In Combat Mission it is easy. It even gives you full units, say Panzergrenadier platoon 1944, whatever. You added whatever artillery, heavy weapons, etc whatever was historically available, clicked on it and there it was on the map a few clicks later. Why does TOW Kursk stop you choosing the units you want? Also why cant I choose the opposing side? [i wont always want to do this but often I do]. My wish list. Combat Mission playability with TOW Kursk graphics and AI. I will persevere, but Im hearing good things about Achtung Panzer so will give that a go as well. I await the usual positive and/or sarcastic replies. Sorry to be so cynical but ive read enough posts to see there are some real smartypants out there!
  5. It was a long night, last night! you're quite correct of course, Victoria Cross is what I meant to type. Thanks, John. Just seen the screenshots on the blog. Absolutely superb!
  6. With regard to the more personalized aspects of TOW, being able to award medals and upgrade skills to soldiers after a 'battle'. How about a 'Hall of Fame' where individual soldiers who have been awarded the highest medals of honour, {ie; Victory Cross and all other countries equivalent} can be kept. For example. Date, location, Rank, name, unit and brief description as in, 'Sargeant Nathan McCormack rallied the remains of the company, took out 2 enemy tanks personally and held back the advancing enemy giving time for reinforcements to advance to his position on hill 435, and stem the enemy advance.' Something like that. Just an idea. Any thoughts. I think it would add depth and continuity.
  7. Hi everyone, been playing CM 1 2 3 for a long time. I will buy TOW but, sorry, am dissapointed that no on map mortars or movement in and out of buildings. Going to be strange deploying no forces whatsoever in buildings. As an ex-soldier, [yes I know, boring], having a line of sight appreciation and field of fire from a second floor position often became essentiall. For artillery spotters in CM [as in real life]. Of course an obvious spot for enemy to shoot at, but by then the damage the spotter had help inflict was often already done. I look forward to the day when both these ommissions are added. They obviously really add to the game, especially infantry strong scenarios. Would like to add that when TOW comes out [and MTWar 2], I may well retire from public life and live in my front room with take away pizzas and a regular supply of liquid canned refreshment!
