  1. Garland Crater - Chiron~

Not all Salvage operations are for wrecks dating back to the Mu Arae era. Some are of a more rather more recent vintage. The Knarr, a small FTL cargoship, was carrying a load of valuable loot back to her mother ship, the Liveship Helena. 3 hours ago the stealth systems guarding Knarr failed momentarily and in those short moments another pack of wolves struck. The Liveship Harkhuf had been lured to the system by the same signals that had summoned the Helena and her brood. Angered that Helena had manged to loot the colony before they had a chance to, Harkhuf struck out at the tiny Knarr, striking it down and sending in plunging back to the planet below... thousands of kilometers from any of Helena's other forces... Ripe for the taking...

Perhaps this trip had not been a total waste of time after all...

  2. I've got a version 2 of the Scenario done. It doesn't have the funkey Red Fungas, as I was having a heck of of a time getting the masking right. I decided to just ditch it for now.

Of course since then, I've figured out how to overcome the problem... right after I was more or less happy with the way it looked. So it's just dirt for now, with nasty evil red stuff coming later.

Anyway, here it is. 2 Deployment Zones, 30 Dropships and a pair of Missile Towers in the middle of the map.

The whole crash site needs some serious work. Right now I've got a bunch of houses representing the cargo containers, but it will work for now.

Please let me know if it doesn't load or something. I am fairly sure I've thrown all the needed files into the rar, but I'm not sure.

  3. Aye, they do seem rather too effective, though in the game where I was doing some dropping, I found that Crimson (at least I think it was Crimson), was doing fine in the face of the mine drops. When he noticed the drop pod, he stopped moving and after it landed, he fired a 120mm HE round right at his feet. His Thor was not bothered by the HE and the mines went away.

Of course, if I had known that AA was not stopping the pods, I would not have been dropping them. It seemed to me that the easiest counter would have been for the Attackers to come in under the cover of a Hermes.

  4. Thanks for the edits SquidLord. This is the first Wiki I've worked on, so my formating is a bit rough.

I've expanded the section on Infantry to include a bit about the various weapons.

Mace, I think that is a wonderful idea.

  5. My problem with holding down the E key is that I can overload my keyboard very easily. Holding W + A/S to steer + E to aim and then hitting G/R/-/+ causes my computer to started beeping at me and stop accepting key pressed until I let up on something more often then not.

  6. Well, I threw up some ultra basic infantry tactics. Based on a couple ICQ messages I sent to a friend to help him get started.

If no one else does anything with it by the morrow, I'll expand it.

  7. Someone requested more Objective maps on the Delta_P server, at it had the best ping, and a large number of people chimed in support.

As far as I know, the reason they took down the other 2 servers was that there were so few player, that only 1 server was needed.

  8. Point. It was a random idea.

Though if the situation was something like below, I could see it.

  9. Intereting topic. I'll have some more to say later, but the first thing that sprang to mind for Twin Peaks was thus - It is the site of an underground Mu Arae era base. While the topworks were all destroyed, both factions have reason to belive that the underground portions are still intact. If they can fight off the foe, then the can get some engineers in to dig down to the cache of technology.

  10. Welcome to the game TR0LL. It is aways good to have fresh victi... I mean new players to join in the fun.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask here. There are a number of people who will leap at the chance to answer you.

It does. It REALLY does. I used the Thor-MC gun on the 76mm turret. They managed to dig some impressive holes in the ground. I dropped some infantry near them and they fired before I hit the ground. I've even seen them fire at dropships that are about to unload their cargo. Didn't get the dropship, but DID drop a big boom right next to my Paladin, killing it.

Their engagment range seemed a bit short, but that could have been LOS issues.

    Here you go.
  13. It seems that Sensor Jammers are still being dropped by Dropship rather then pod. Is this intentional?

I have also discovered that the old trick of dropping a jammer then landing in the AoE does not work nearly so well. With the Dropships coming down like they do, the WILL leave the AoE of the jammer, normally sooner rather then later.

Overall Good stuff. This is REALLY going to change the way the game is played.

  14. I'm liking what I've seen so far about as much as I liked the 1.1.0 patch. Damn fine work all around.

I've got a few small quibbles, but I'm going to play some more before I comment.

PS - The sounds ARE great.

  15. Once you get a squad into the building, it get's rather boring for you, at least over the longer term. Do you think one could change things so you can take over a bot once you get your Ion Squad into the enemies central Point Defense Ion Tower? Right now it tells you that you can not, because you are a passenger.

  16. I really like the TD. I can't wait to see it in game.

As for future AFV's, I've been thinking about something small with a nice low centre of gravity. Used for very steep terrian. I've got a couple maps that I've been playing with and some of them are rathr... steep in places. Mountian Goat kinda steep. :)

  17. *Blink* Well, that was a touch insulting. As far as I can tell, most (if not all) of the posters here UNDERSTAND what you are getting at, it's just that some of them (of whom I happen to be one) don't AGREE with you on all points.

Tanks have more then one role. I often see tanks being used for what you describe them as being for. I also see them being used for more fixed defense, as there are not a great deal of other options.

Incidently, I've been paying more attention to other players over the last couple days, and spent some time in the Mercury, just to watch what was happening. Do you know what? I saw plenty of tactical manuvers. People taking cover, sneaking around, trying to get a good angle to get the drop on the foe.

I watched a couple people goto Co-Ax, fill the air with fire and then the teammates dropped some morter fire on the AAD towers, killing a number of targets.

I saw people using arty against targets that were not covered by AAD towers and while they didn't destroy a great number of targets, they DID cause some serious damage to the targets.

Yes, people do sit under a AAD and shoot. But if you are in a position where you are protected from fire, are you really "in the open"?

DropTeamâ„¢ is a multiplayer capable, real-time, tactical simulation of armored ground combat in the far future.
The bolded phrase implies to me that there have been some changes to how things work. If you try the tactics of one age with the equipment of another, you are going to have some problems. Yes the basic concepts remain the same, and you see that in action. However the details change. AAD is one of them. Your tactics are dictated by the equipment you have and the equipment your foe has. A bayonet charge is perfectly sound if your foe has slow loading muskets. Versus a Maxium Machine Gun? Not so much.

It takes a few shots, but I have managed to get HEAT rounds through to a Galaxy and taken it out, no problem. All you need is to hose it down with the Co-Ax.

  18. Another idea - Non-aligned Sensor Jammers. So it blocks both Water and Blood, but it's automatics can shoot down dropships/shells in it's Zone of Control. Perhaps even with adjustable sensor jammer ranges, though that might already be an option. I haven't taken a look yet.

For this scenario it could either be still functioning ECM or interference from the breached FTL drive.
