  1. We eventually figured out the optimal way to start things off, but we're still a little squishy on what comes next. There's a few ways we can go about it, though the core is pretty solidly decided upon. Namely Commonwealth forces.

    Steve

That's good enough for me, I think! Looking forward to seeing some CW troops in this title when the time comes. It's a great day to be a CM-fan :D

  2. Oh, I knew it was getting modules, read that much - just hoping that it is the first CM:FI module and that we don't have to wait as long as we did for the CMBN:CW module.

However, I see BFC are going to be very busy for some time now and today's announcement is good news for all of us! East Front, Italy, Market Garden all to come within a year - fantastic!

  3. - Pausable RealTime option. A player can request a Pause and, if the other player agrees, the game is Paused until both players request an end to it. Pauses can be "Playable" (Commands can be issued/modified), "Viewable" (navigation is allowed, but no Commands issued/modified), or "Locked" (no navigation, no Commands issued/modified). The different pause types reflect the different reasons for requesting a pause.

Hugely significant for the LAN game my friend and I play in a frequent basis. Excellent news!

  4. Forgive me if this was already covered but I'm too excited to digest all this yet :D

Very happy to see Sicily/Italy come to CMx2. Very happy indeed, but I can't help noticing no Brits or Canadians in the first game, which is very disappointing.

Please tell me they will come to the party sooner rather than later? i.e. the first module for this new family?

  5. It's ok - I'm ready now. Got all the grass cut, an external window sill replaced and solar paint applied to the bitumen-covered part of my roof. That's my job list clear for the next four days before I need to go back to work for a series of six twelve hour night shifts on Monday.

    Now is the time!

  6. I take full responsibility for not reading the conditions properly, I was far too excited. Not BFC's fault.

However, that won't change the fact that I'm not happy and this is the last pre-order from me. On top of that, I paid full whack for a steelbook and now I don't even get that. Almost $100 for this, maybe more if HMRC catch it. If I could cancel I would. Very poor show.

  7. 27.

I picked up CMBO purely by chance in 2001 (from a cash converters bargain bin). I didn't have a great deal of wargaming experience before that apart from the Close Combat series and some fun times at high school with AH's Fortress Europa and The Gamers' Stalingrad Pocket.

I'm very glad I walked into that Cash Converters store that day. I still play CMx1 via LAN regularly (2-3 continuous whole days every month) with the same guy I played against the very day we got the game back to my student flat. It's been a good ten years.

  8. I had no idea it existed until I went to University in September 2001. Sometime during Freshers Week, my new uni friends and I wandered into the Cash Converters shop just down the street from the halls of residence.

We went our seperate ways in there. Some guys started browsing the music collection, others the cameras and the VHS tapes etc. I went straight to the PC games section and picked up CMBO in a very bashed box. I read all the info and thought it seemed ok but was probably another game that would disappoint, I had wasted money on these types before. So I was about to place it back on the shelf when a very pretty Sales Assistant came over and said she was sorry about the condition of the box and that the CD was a little scratched but that if I wanted it £4 was the price. What the hell, I thought, and bought it. My new flatmates said it looked 'dumb' and that I only bought it because of the girl in the shop (they may have been at least partially correct).

Well, I got back to my new flat and installed it and that was that. I didn't reappear for days. I was absolutely overwhelmed with how easy it was to learn yet very deep, complex and varied as well as the replayability. I issued a summons to my best friend from home (some 200+ miles away) and he came up and we played hotseat over and over for the next week until he had to go home. I still play H2H via LAN on a very regular basis with this guy 10 years later.

By far the best £4 I ever spent.

  9. Pre-ordered and now very excited!

Maybe more than I would normally pay for a game but this isn't just a game to me and I reckon I owe BFC as my closest friend and I have been playing CMx1 several times a month via LAN for ten years now after picking up CMBO in a bargain bin for £4. Not to mention CMBB and CMAK which came as prt of the anthology in 2005 for a whopping £6.50.

    A good summer ahead, I feel :-)

  10. Thanks Schrullenhaft,

This is a fresh factory installation of Win 7 64bit and the only security software I have installed is Comodo Internet Security Premium (Windows Firewall is disabled). It was compeletely disabled at all times during installation and attempt to launch my latest CMSF installation attempt. Other than that, only my hardware router firewall is enabled.

The 'LicCtrl Service' IS the 'Runservice.exe' file. So one "running" and the other not is awfully strange (and seemingly impossible since they are one-in-the-same).

This is what I thought. Yes, DEP is on for all with only CMSF.exe, CMSF British Module.exe and Runservice.exe excepted (and I have repeated this step several times as suggested).

I had missed the Paradox 1.10 initially so thanks, grabbed that. Still no success though.

  11. Hi all,

I've just acquired a brand new PC and have been installing my most played games one by one. I got to CMSF today but I've had no joy with it.

First I installed the original Paradox version from CD. No problem, that ran fine. Then I installed the British Forces module and acquired the elicense (success message given). After that was installed either nothing happens when I attempt to launch the game or I get the 0xc0000005 error.

Reading other threads and looking at the Knowledgebase this appears to be a known issue with DEP. Fine, I made the recommended adjustments and ensured that my firewall was disabled completely during any attempt to launch the game (also rebooted several times after playing with the DEP settings as advised).

No success. Now, I checked the LicCtrl Service and it is running as expected. However, Runservice.exe is not present in the 'running processes' tab in Task Manager. I ran it manually and it appeared but it does not automatically appear at startup or otherwise.

So, that's where I'm at. I'm not so much worried about CMSF as such but I am worried that I won't be able to licence and play CMBN when the time comes. The irony of the whole situation is that after being so worried about CMx1 not working on Win 7, CMBB and CMAK run like a charm after straight installations from the CD and patched up to 1.03 yet CMSF won't play.

I'd be grateful if you could offer some more advice.
