  1. woot! you rawk clay seems like the folks are going nuts about inf in the other forum right now, looks like promising stuff
  2. yeah i just don't see a logical reason why the hermes can't shoot down incoming power-jumping infantry if it can shoot down a similarly slow moving drop ship and similarly tiny projectiles. I dont see it as a game unbalancer at all, there are still plenty of afv's the inf can hop-assult on and this just rounds out the hermes general cloak/aad role. it's almost impossible to shoot down power-jumping inf due to the aforementioned ranging situation so having at least ONE vehicle that can fill this role would make sense. Any team play at the moment seems to require the presence of a hermes somehwere on the battlefield anyway. + it shoots at grounded dropships (i.e. while reloading) and at hovering hurricanes ---------------moving on--------------- i love the idea of drop capsules for the troopers coming replete with some ammo reloads and throwing off chaff as they drop to screw up sensors. it would be a lot of fun to come screaming into a hot lz with a squad and disrupt the defenses then hop out. Something a dropship landing afv could not accomplish as the laser tower/ aad would knock it out of the sky. would make infantry have a real interesting use beyond hide and wait.
  3. im for keeping the infantry pipper as is, we had a great game last night where it was a king of the hill type game (base) and yllamana kept hopping in with his inf and distracting me while his team-mates afv's moved up the hill. I think the hermes anti-air weapon SHOULD fire on incoming jumping infantry. They are airborne, clearly giving off a signature (hence on sensors) and moving slow enough and large enough to be shot. Especially when considered to an ATGM which the hermes has no problem with (except up close). If for game balance reasons the hermes doesn't shoot down airborne infantry i think we should take them off sensors completely, otherwise there's no logical reason why they shouldn't be shot out of the air. I would like to see infantry be able to hitch a ride on AFV's. I tried jumping on top of a few last night but just kept slipping off the top. Bah! Fer sure hand-placed demo charge, one per infantry man, would be very useful and sensible for all kinds of devious uses. It would also make AFV's a lot more hesitant to drive in amongst a bunch of infantry and mow them down. Which brings me to another point. Death by crushing. I had an inf squad last night lying out in the open in the oncoming path of a herd of enemy afv's holding fire waiting for them to get in range. A bot in an apollo actually ran over two of my infantry men (after screeching to a halt and "bumping" into them for about 20 seconds). After passing they got up and shot his ass off. I think when being run over by a 20+ ton tank you ought to end up like jelly oozing out of a tin-can rather than feeling fine and fit for action. And as far as entering buildings yay! Send over that .obj importer and i'll get my building add-ons done and ready to placed clay keep up the good work!
  4. well last night i put him in the "DMZ" outside the router's firewall by setting him up on a static ip and assigning that as outside the firewall via the router setup. it's a fairly new router, about a year old, linksys wrtp54g. I can't see a "pat" option anywhere in the setup pages on the built-in web-server config app.
  5. Hey! A buddy of mine and I have been trying to play using two computers on a single lan to connect to the server hosted games (on the internet). What are the port configs for the router to enable us both to join the same server (currently server errors). tnx!
  6. apple's site for openAL states this: "OpenAL v1.2. In Mac OS X v10.4Tiger, this version is packaged inside a 1.0 framework." I guess that means they have tweaked version 1.0 eh?
  7. ok thanks Clayton, I just didn't know if it was meant to work and was some kind of software issue on my mac. well i'll keep my fingers crossed on openAL 1.1
  8. has anyone with a mac gotten this to work? Both my mate and me cannot get this to work on our laptops. Laters osx version of course, one is 1.5ghz g4 the other is a new macbook pro. we can hear other people's p to talk and when we push p we get the "transmission" box come up indicating we are sending but no one on our team can hear us nor sees the "incoming transmission" box. help?
  9. not done yet still working on em. Although they could be dropped by a dropship in-game I can't think of a reason why you would want to do that (who knows perhaps there's a scenario waiting to be written that could use that). These is more of an attempt to design structures that would look and function in a way that is in keeping with the highly mobile space-centric culture of the game. I see them being used more as placeables by the map designer. more coming...
  10. that's what the plasma mortar on the hurricane is for, clearing mines
  11. yeah unfortunately it's still not working for me on my mac (powerbook g4) or my mate's (macbook pro). can't figure out why. bah
  12. yeah ok I lied, it's still not working. I'm flummoxed. anyone get it to work on a mac? if so can you tell me what model/ operating system etc? thanks
  13. ok managed to get it sorted (i think) it was due to APE (application enhancement, a third-party app that gets installed in system preferences for some shareware apps) screwing with the audio. all better now move along
  14. Yeah agreed, galaxy ships are open to abuse. I think it's imperative that dropships (and galaxy and vipers) become limited use items just like the vehicles themselves. This would make people a lot more careful in their use (and would fit in more with reality). And if look closely you'll see the laser towers in the game also use the mini-gun barrel model for lasers.
  15. yeah i just figured all that out via the apple forums, but i can't figure out why the built-in mic's not working. Could be ichat i guess, i'll make sure it's not running next time. I guess I'll pickup a usb headset. well for the g4 tower you could try this one: http://www.welovemacs.com/5352ipbi.html nice and cheap
  16. working on in-game structures that are would make functional sense for a temporary space-dropped environment. I'd attach a picture here but no way to do this...... you'll just have to wait
  17. Hey! i can't seem to get the "p" push to talk to work on my g4 (aluminum) laptop. My pal is having the same problem with his macbook pro. We can hear transmissions, and when we push the "p" key the "tranmission" box pops up (to indicate that the send is working i guess) but no-one on team hears us nor sees "transmission from" pop up. I have already checked the audio input and it IS set to the built-in mic. (I also tried a headset in the mic-in jack which also didnt work). anyone out there have any ideas? anyone with an apple laptop get the "p" to talk to work? thanks
  18. thanks for the clarification yurch. Ok so if the diamonds are indicative of instances of enemy fire then can you (or has anyone) actually used them for counter-battery fire? I don't understand how you would do that.
  19. having not played mortar carriers and command vehicles much I'm confused by the yellow diamond hud graphics that come up when using these vehicles. I can't see a description of them in the manual anywhere. Can someone give me a little idea of what they are and how to use them? + I have noticed than when driving a mortar vehicle it will change ammo types automatically according to some critera i cannot divine (range, target type?). I do know about ctrl-m and waypoint targeting (that's in the manual!). thanks
  20. The physics for wheeled vehicles just feels wrong. I was playing arpinium last night and driving one of those anti-air vehicles up the tall hill to the east of the base. The vehicle actually flipped over BACKWARDS end-over-end. I don't think this is actually possible. In all of my car-driving experiences (granted never driven a hermes) the physics of the car's road-holding seems very different. It seems like the center of gravity doesn't account for engine placement/ mass or the fact that the tires and wheels actually have weight/ mass in and of themselves.
  21. can someone please please pretty please email the manual to me? I can't get my download to work, it keeps crapping out after @ 100meg. thanks adzaroo@yahoo.com
  22. um, this will sound odd but...i erased the install copy of dropteam once it was installed and now I don't have a copy of the manual. would be a total pain if i had download the whole thing again just to get a copy of the manual. Can someone email a copy of the manual to me or post it online somewhere I can grab it? adzaroo@yahoo.com thanks!
  23. Ok I know it's been brought up before in various other threads but I thought it would be helpful to congeal them into a single location. There are some really odd things happening with the physics model and vehicles right now. Here are a few I've noticed: 1). Ramming. People are now starting to use the paladin vehicles to ram Thors and push them around. This plainly wrong; a Thor must be like 5 times heavier than a Paladin. 2). Drop ships falling over, rolling down hills, flipping, getting pulled around by their reloading tethers, landing on top of vehicles, landing on top of buildings etc. Again, obviously this is wrong. Looks plain silly when you've got a reloading drop ship stuck on top of your vehicle and you take it for a drive piggy-back style. Though it does make you damn near invulnerable. 3). Ground clipping. I've had instances (especially on rugged maps like some of the ice ones) where my Thor (or other tracked vehicle) is trying to negotiate a pointy hill that merges with a shallow but steep "v" depression and the tank seems unable to determine which way the ground is going. It flips in the opposite direction from which it should and ends up on it's back! Perhaps in these instances (i.e. complex geometry that generates conflicting ground planes) it would be more realistic to have the vehicle just get stuck, requiring a pickup.
  24. i agree. commander mode can be definite hindrance. I have been playing on the demo server again (because there more players there) and newbies are often voting commanders which then makes it impossible for other to drop turrets etc. I would rather just NOT have it.
