  1. Thank you guys! I don’t know what to say… The response has been great. I never would have guessed that these comics that I’ve made to amuse my PBEM-posse would be so appreciated by so many CM-fans. On the other hand I somehow guessed that I wasn’t the only one whose panzers bogged on a hard, flat road or whose spotter directed about 200 shells on my own troops… MikeyD wrote: “Ah, the secret lives of those little CM guys. Kinda makes you feel guilty doing the nasty stuff we do to them.” I couldn’t agree more! In a long 30 turns PBEM-game you kinda get attached to your troops. Those who perform well that is. And then ther’s the “shot-in-the-ass-non-lethally-on-the-second-round-and-just-laying-there-to-the-end-in panic/routed”-guy. Mind you, I’m not through with that guy yet… Come to think of it, MikeyD just invented the name for this cartoon! “The Secret Lives Of Those Little CM Guys”. There it is! Perfect! These four cartoons I’ve posted here so far, are all made during September. I originally made them in Finnish and had to do a little rewriting when translating them into English. That wasn’t all that easy. In the future I’ll just make them in English right away. It’s hard work, as you would expect. 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration, lots of screenshots and photoshopping. I think I’ll be posting just one cartoon once a week from now on, as I’m going to be very busy in the near future. And dieseltaylor, thank you for mentioning my “art” at Band Of Brothers. Especialy since they liked them over there too!
  2. A few facts again; I like Stevie Wonder. The old funky stuff that is (Superstitious, Living In The City etc...) I was a mortarcrew leader while doing my 12 month long military service...
  3. Thank you, guys! You´re too nice. I imagine you noticed the strange sound effect "vroooooommmmTÖKS!". I´ve orginaly made these comics in finnish and it would have taken bloody ages too do it again with a more fitting "vrooooooooommmTHUD!" sound. So there you have it, a free lesson in finnish. TÖKS is THUD in english, the sound of a Scout Car bogging in 0,02 seconds from 60 mph to a complete stop.
  4. Hilarious! That one is a keeper, thanks! Meanwhile I´ve posted two more CM comicstrips over on the "Africa Korps" -forum. And they sure did like them there. What nice guys. Made me think I should quit this philosophy nonsense and focus on comics instead...
  5. A little inside joke here too. The friend I usually play PBEM-games against used to be a real dummy with the spotters. Then again I remember my first PBEM-game back in the old times (Beyond Ovelord) where I had a 150 mm rocketspotter. It was total mayhem. Mostly on my side...
  6. A little backgroundinfo on this one. A) I allways wondered why there are no medics around. Well here´s why... The purchase-phase is sort of like shopping in a big store (like WallMart etc...) C) A little inside joke here. My favourite PBEM-opponent (hello Olli!) has a perverse fondness to flamethrowers. Even more irritating, he´s very good with them! I´ve been burned way too many times by his hiding flamethrowers.
  7. Ah, it's Immortalisation you're after, well there are other ways to do that, how about ways more fitting for a philosopher, why don't you write a good book then </font>
  8. Then again, there could well be an american named Frank Nietzsche. Or an syrian named Al-Karim Nietzsce. Errr... Well, propably not...
  9. You obviously haven´t read the Theatre of War Contest info, have you? "We will then draw a number of winners from the pool of correct replies (multiple entries increase the chance that someone's name will be drawn), and the winner(s) will have their names added to the unit database of the game before release, meaning that there will be a soldier running around in the game with their name on it, e.g. Sgt. John Doe as part of the US forces." If you would like to immortalize yourself as "Sergei" or "wolf66" it´s your choice. I wouldn´t use "Nietzsche" of course...
  10. Just like the Theatre of War Contest. Wouldn´t that be great?
  11. Well did this one blow all out of propotions... It was not what I had in mind at all. Some good, some bad and some ugly replyes I´ve read. Let´s all move along shall we? Life´s too short. "A man who has declared that another is an idiot and a bad companion, is angry when the latter eventually proves himself to be otherwise. - Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche"
  12. Well, that one was for all of us. Me included. I promise to read the posts more thoroughly in the future before posting my own hastly assumptions and conclusions. Having said that... So how about that PBEM-feature? In or out?
  13. 1 to change the light bulb. 1 to post that the light bulb has been changed. 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently. 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs. 27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs. 53 to flame the spell checkers. 6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as ****-retentive. 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp". 15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct. 156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy". 109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum. 203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and lightbulb forum about changing light bulbs be stopped. 111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum. 306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty. 27 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs. 14 to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URLs. 27 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group. 33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too". 12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy. 19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three". 4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ. 44 to ask what is a "FAQ"? 4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?" 143 to say "do a search on 'light bulbs' before posting questions about light bulbs". and 1 new forum member to respond to the original post 6 months from now and to start it all over again.
  14. I don´t quite agree to this: "The majority of our players play solo. At least most of the time." I mean, the PBEM-feature for me and my PBEM-friends is just the thing that made the difference between CM and all the other games on the market. Let´s prove a point and tell them were not a minority. The PBEM is a unique feature and I hope the developers don´t think that it should be in the category "nice feature, but does anybody really miss it if we leave it out". TCP/IP, LAN, and Hotseat options are nice, but nor really at all the same thing.
  15. I once found a CM-related page where there was a cartoon story of a human vs AI game (I think it was, could have been a PBEM-game also). Anyway, I can´t find it anymoore. Anybody know that page? Anyone seen it around?
  16. OK. Thanks everybody. I´ll try this. Can I edit the map in the mapeditor if I load it in the editor (as the map could use a few tweaks)?
  17. I just finished a PBEM-game and wonder if I can save the computer generated map for coming battles. It was an exellent map even thoug I lost the game...
