  1. Can I ask a couple of things about arty (sorry if they've been asked)

    1. Why is it so random on placement? I mean because of the scale of the maps, I could be wrong and it's as accurate as it can be...but it seems very innacurate. One of my friends was a Gunnery Sergeant Major and according to him, arty can be dropped within 10m accuracy from distances greater than 5 miles

    2. As a result of this apparent innacuracy, why do we not have the ability to adjust drop? Again from what he says, you'd normally get a shot or two dropped on target area and then be allowed the ability to move the shot...spotting rounds I think he called them.

If it's a limit of the engine, fine...but I often feel arty is not only slow (10 minutes at times??) but wildly innacurate to the point where it's not worth my while using it. I need "eyes on" the enemy in order to send in a strike...but the eyse sometimes take casualties from the arty.

Also, with the length of time it takes, it's kind of difficult to employ effectively. A barrage that takes 10 minutes to drop?? My troops will be inside the compound by then...so I need to keep them back...and that's 10 minutes from a 60 minute scenario??

    No bitching...just asking.

Thx - AND GET NATO RELEASED!!!

  2. I presume you wouldn't like me posting this here....but I feel other people should be aware of this.

I'm not trying to affect your sales. I am not trying to show your company in a negative light...I simply want the community to know that whilst they (at present) may not experience issues with your eLicence software, the chance may come when they will and they would be better off, as a consumer, without it.

I recently had a problem with Battlefronts eLicence software in that my computer would not allow the eLicence software to execute.

Yeah...sure ...it was my computers fault. Something somewhere wasn't allowing it to fire up. That said, had their eLicence software NOT been a requirement, I would've been playing the game as opposed to trying to resolve issues with the game running....something I spent over a month trying to resolve, with NO GAMING TIME whatsoever.

To be fair to Battlefront, whomever I was liaising with had pretty much pulled out all the stops with a clear install, software install etc to try and resolve it....so I am in no way saying they ran away from their duties as a developer and provider of software...on the contrary, they were very helpful...

    BUT

and this is the point...wtf am I doing contacting technical support for to get my game to work when you and I BOTH know the pirates are operating your game perfectly fine?? I BOUGHT your software. I am a legitimate customer. Why the hell am I being treated like the theif when u and I both KNOW the pirates are running your software without the problems I've been having?

Please - for the love of god and for the saviour of a GREAT engine - drop this crappy DRM ****. I want you to protect your software....but NOT by making me jump through hoops to get your software to work.

Below is my final response to the issues I was having.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I have CMSF, Marines and British modules working on my system now.

I have no idea what's changed on my system since I logged the call, nor have I any idea what I did differently this time round. So many things have been tried that I am left with no idea what fixed it.

For the record - you have a great game system in CMSF - but I'll be bowing out of buying your games from now on. I just don't think it's right that the consumer has to suffer these types of problems - problems which we all know the thief is able to avoid with ease on (most likely) day one of release...it's simply not fair.

When I want to play one of my games that I've purchased legitimately, I like to click the icon and fire it up.

I know there are people who have not had issues with your licensing system - but here are the two reasons why it causes me a headache...

    1. I seldom play the same game for any length of time. I regularly play different games and therefore there are longer periods of time between me playing CMSF - and with that longer period of time comes more changes to my system - making it harder for me to find the problem - it's possible people who don't suffer issues like this are generally playing your game system day to day and therefore know what might have caused the problem.

    2. I am a forgetful person. I have (and will in the future) make big hardware changes, reinstall my OS or remove games from my harddrive - and being forgetful, I forget to unlicence these games. Again, probably because I do not play them day to day. I've had the same problem with OOTP which is why I will not buy their products either.

I realise you have to protect your investment in some way - but punishing your customers is not the answer.

I'm sad about my decision, as I LOVE CMSF and the Marines and Brits add ons...and I was very much looking forward to the NATO expansion - but I simply can't support a system that punishes me as a legitimate purchaser of your software - sorry.

  3. So I had a problem running the game lately - don't know why...first nothing happened when I installed the game, then I got a message pertaining to the eLicence thing.

Anyway, I decided to uninstall and reinstall...so I did. I fired 1.08 CMSF vanilla and it loaded. Got to the menu system fine.

Good...now for the Marines addon...so I add that, and then I get the error - same as before CMSF Marines Module - Application Error

The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application.

So I check and the Marines module is added to the DEP (as is Runservice and CMSF).

So I uninstall and reinstall again - same thing - vanilla CMSF runs, Marines screws it up.

Am I doing something wrong? Should there be a patch or something before I install Marines?

I suppose I better fill in a support ticket and stand in line - rather infuriating though.

  4. Thx Moon. I'll check again tonight.

One thing I forgot to add...initially I tried to play and I got the timer cursor, saw the game loading in the Processes and then it got to about 9MB then quit...so it never got to the game at all. I then uninstalled the Brit Module and I *think* that's when the error started to show. However, it was about the same time as uninstalling the Brit Module that I removed the program entries in DEP, rebooted the machine and then added them (with runservice)...

Anyway, I'll give it another look tonight.

Do you think an uninstall might correct the issue? I just don't want to uninstall unless I absolutely have to - as this will be the third time I've started a campaign, got part way through, went off playing something else, revisited it and had to reinstall for whatever reason (new processor, new hard drive blah, blah, blah).

Anyway, thx for your time. I'll try everything to get it running before I submit a ticket as I'm sure I've been here before and got it working

  5. Hi

Got Combat Mission Shock Force, Marines and Brit Modules.

Haven't used in some time, but it's been installed on my current system for a while and was definitely working at some point in the last 6 months or so.

I did post in these forums about not getting it to run within that time period (when I first switched to Windows 7) and got it running - something to do with runservice.exe not being in the DEP list.

Anyway, I've just went to fire it up yesterday, and it wasn't loading. I got a little timer for a few seconds, it appeared in my list of processes and then unloaded itself.

I have installed a new graphics card the other week - so wonder if that's rendered the licence invalid (by the way whilst we're here - that is THE legitimate concern for alot of people regarding eLicence - trying to remember to unlicence!)?

Anyway - point of the post is, I managed to use the shortcut to unlicence the Brit module, but I cannot unlicence the marines or the core game - I get an error (atached pic). That's the same error I get when trying to unlicence the Marine or the core game module (even though I was able to unlicence the Brit module). It's also the same error I get when I try to play the game. I presume it's to do with the licencing and it being prevented from operating correctly.

I've tried switching off my Firewall (ZONEALARM) and Antivirus (AVAST) - but no joy

    System is

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz

    4GB DDR2

    Gigabyte nVidia GTX460 graphics card

My question is, do I have to uninstall and reinstall - and if I do, because I have been unable to unlicence it, will I lose the licence? If so, what can I do to retrieve that licence?

    Thx

    Billy

  6. RunService.exe is 2,560

I'm running Avast, but as I said, I'd turned it off. I do not have Zonealarm installed (only Windows Firewall as stated above)

Don't know about the heuristic scanning...as I said, I turned the anti virus software off. Besides, it was installed when I last ran the game on 11th November.

GG is Gamersgate. Don't know about the patch - can't tell. It's from Battlefront.com it says, but comes up with a battlefront AND Gamersgate logo.

Just tried and uninstall and reinstall. The game fired up with Vanilla CMSF. It also fired up with patched 1.10 CMSF. As soon as I installed the Marines module, the game does not want to play. So the problem lies with the eLicence service.

Seeing as you uninstall DOES NOT uninstall the elicence feature, is there a way I can manually do this so it reinstalls? The service is not starting...I don't know what else you might think is blocking it if I've tried running it with Firewall and anti virus on AND all exe files added to DEP list?

  7. Yes I am running as Administrator

    Yes UAC is off

I've tried running with anti virus off

Yes RunService is in the expected location

I've uninstalled now and will try to reinstall...but I notice the LicCtrl service is still listed in the list of services and it's still not running (should this not be uninstalled with the app?)

If the LicCtrl service isn't running, is there any point to me reinstalling? Seems this is an integral file, but not running.

If it is worth reinstalling, what is the procedure?

    GG Download of CMSF

    install Patch 1.10 all inclusive

    Install Marines module

    Install Marines patch 120

    Install British Forces

    Install 1.21 patch?

  8. When I try to run the game now, an event is logged in the Event Log (surprisingly :-))

    It says

The description for Event ID 0 from source LicCtrlService cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

    LicCtrlService error: 998

    LoadLibrary failed.

  9. Moon

I've added CM Shock Force.exe to the DEP list...now I don't get an error, but it doesn't run.

It loads in the Task Manager, but loads about 3MB into memory, sits there for exactly 1 minute (tried it several times)

Tried running with Windows Firewall off (the only firewall I have)...still sits there for a minute and then unloads

As I said, the LicCtrl service doesn't want to start - don't know if that's got anything to do with it

  10. Had to do a system rebuild about 3 weeks ago...had CMSF installed and running with Marines and British addons (though I didn't try the Marines and British addons at the time)

But now when I try to run the game from the shortcut, I gate an error saying.

"CM Shock Force.exe - Application Error"

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application"

Now it was working. Last time I played and saved was teh TaskForce Thunder campaign on the 11/11/2009 and I have 4 saves (the last one being for that date) but I haven't played it since.

Now when I start the game (not load a game...start CMSF from the shortcut), I get the above error.

When I checked the Event Viewer for the application error, it says this

    "

Faulting application name: CM Shock Force.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4a5f4b57

Faulting module name: elicen40.dll, version: 4.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x3d86b216

    any ideas pls?

    Sorry

  11. How is that a misrepresentation?

Sometimes I find it difficult to communicate what I'm trying to say.

Of course coming under artillery fire is coming under fire. I didn't mean that was mis-represented. I meant the game is detecting artillery as direct fire.

tbh, I see no benefit of the Hunt command if it is wad. I might as well just give my units a move command and tend to them when they come under fire, rather than give them a hunt command only to stop as soon as anything comes near them.

  12. The reason I asked is the Hunt command is specifically for probing...the units don't halt when they are given any other move command.....so it makes me think the hunt command is broken because they are halting due to coming under fire...which is what you would expect from hunting if they come into contact with the enemy...but NOT from dropping shells...this makes me think the artillery is being misrepresented as "coming under fire" which is what the hunt command is waiting for?

I probably haven't made much sense there, but I know what I mean.
