  1. Hi

I have the following installs for Shock Force

    SF (Gamersgate version)
    Marines
    British Forces
    NATO

I installed Shock Force and then the (purchased) 1.10 patch (which brings the Gamersgate Shock Force into the BF fold). All good so far

I then installed Marines, British Forces and NATO - again all good. All games show

I then installed the 1.21 patch and it removed my modules and left me with stock SF 1.21

So I reinstalled Marines and the game reverted to v1.10

Please, please can I have clarity on what to install and in what order. Installing Gamersgate Shock Force and the 1.10 patch is fine...it's after that...we have a 1.21 patch that has a date stamp of 2013 and a 1.31 patch of 2010

What is the install process for someone with

    GamersGate Shock Force
    Marines
    British Forces
    NATO
    1.10 patch
    1.21 patch
    1.31 patch

    Thank you

  2. There's an additional issue here.

For Shock Force, I believe the 1.10 patch transferred the game from the Gamersgate version to the BF version.

But - following the install process above for Shock Force didn't work.
    Installed SF
    Installed Patch 110
    Installed Marines
    Installed British Forces
    Installed NATO
    All good so far
Installed 121 - game reverted to only showing the core SF modules

What I don't understand is why is the 1.21 SF Retail Patch released on 2013 and the 1.31 patch released on 2010? Also - as the 1.21 patch was released in 2013, why does it "remove" the Marines, BF and NATO modules from the game?

When should the 1.21 patch be installed??

  3. Please can someone help me understand how I get these games installed?

With different modules, different activation processes, different patches and different engines, it's an absolute minefield.

    I have

    Shock Force (Gamersgate version)
    Shock Force NATO
    Shock Force British Forces
    Afghanistan
    Fortress Italy
    Normandy
    Normandy Commonwealth
    Normandy Market Garden
    Red Thunder
    Black Sea

I also bought the upgrade for Shock Force to make it the Battlefront version, upgrade of the engine for BN to v2 and v3

Afghanistan, Fortress Italy and Black Sea (I think) aren't any problems. I have no engine upgrades for those and so they are just the base game...no need for anything else to be installed.

My confusion is with Shock Force and Normandy (due to the engine upgrade actually)

So my understanding would be this

    For Shock Force
    Combat Mission Shock Force
Combat Mission Shock Force patch 110
Combat Mission Shock Force British Forces
    Combat Mission Shock Force NATO
Combat Mission Shock Force patch 121
Combat Mission Shock Force patch 131
    And that is CM:SF done

    For Normandy
    Normandy
    Normandy Commonwealth
    Normandy Market Garden
    Normandy v2 Upgrade
    Red Thunder
    Normandy v3 Upgrade

Does that seem correct? I'm extremely confused. I know this is the general discussion forum, but as my post was about ALL CM modules, it didn't fit into an individual one

    Thanks for your help.

  4. The LOS line does usually try and do that by changing colour the other side of the blocking terrain, so if it goes darkblue/purple way before the cover you think might be blocking, perhaps there's a turned-off tree in the way :)

Edit: p.s. Colour discrimination is not my strong suit. If I've got them a bit skew-wif, apologies.

    I agree! :-)

  5. Damn.

Thanks for the info - that is rather annoying to say the least.

The reason I wanted to target the buildings was to suppress any units that may be in there prior to moving forward.

If I was playing the other side, I'd probably have stuck a spotter or sniper in the tower...and an AT unit in the building by the road with Ambush set.

So I would've thought the sensible thing to do - before moving off - was to target those buildings and give anything in there a headache!

I think I'd like to see that addressed in a patch in the future.

I don't know why I've ever noticed it before or perhaps I was too engrossed in play to bother posting about it

    Thanks anyway

  6. I had a tank - went to ground level and used zoom (as described in the Amrchair General How To videos) to see what the tank could see.

Unfortunately, what I can see from that perspective isn't what the LoS is showing me...in these pictures, though I can "see" these buildings, the game was telling me I didn't have LoS.

I took a screen grab and unfortunately the LoS line didn't stay in the image...so I just put some arrows in to show what buildings I'm talking about...and the angle of the lines is deceptive...the lines of sight to the Tower and the two buildings were unbroken from a naked eye perspective - but the game was telling me otherwise and I couldn't work out why

It's wet, daytime (I believe) and not foggy.

Any ideas why I can't "see" what I can "see"? When this happens it kind of makes it a total waste of time getting down low to see what the unit sees...if the game is interpreting it toally differently or using some calculation that the user is unaware of...in other words, when LoS is broken, it'd be helpful to see the reason why the LoS is broken - feedback is a gamers friend.

  7. Is it at all possible people refer to Combat Mission Shock Force NATO as CMSF:NATO or CM:NATO?

I've seen some threads referring to NATO addon but using CMSF:N or CM:N and that's confusing because I keep thinking you are talking about Normandy (which I believe has been referred to as CM:N or CMSF:N since before NATO was mentioned)

  8. Thx for the advice.

Wrote a BIG response - and decided most of you have been helpful - so this is my response....

I'm sorry I didn't write an essay on the different tactics I had tried over the number of times I had tried...

But most of the advice here is helpful. Thank you.

  9. Hm, I don´t think the idea of moving on in a convoy fashion and sort of ignoring the big threat around you is to play it "like is should", as you put it.

I imagine the convoy will travel for many kilometers, in line, one vehicle after the other. They will do this as long as there are no threats close by. Once they find enemies firing at them, the sensible thing to do is to stop and let the better protected guys deal with the enemy and then move on.

So, this scenario is not trying to depict the convoy on the move but a little area in their route where they had to face the enemy.

In that sense the right way to deal with this is what Phil and BlackCat have mentioned.

    -

Cool. I wasn't really thinking along that vein...and I certainly didn't mean to say that driving through an action area is the way a convoy would do it.

What I was really alluding to was the way the vehicles are setup, the fact that there are no spotted units etc...just seemed setup to move along in convoy. Also with the fact that the rest of the convoy would be arriving in 10 minute intervals - everything about how the scenario started suggested you should get moving.

As it is, I think I will do just that...move along in convoy (as would be the case) and stop on contact, eliminating any threat.

I think I said this in another post, but to reiterate - I find the mission briefings very vague in CMSF and this has been highlighted dramatically by the release of NATO.

  10. Thx for your feedback.

I had thought about keeping the trucks back, but I thought that was gamey?! I thought the idea was to travel "like" a convoy, picking off the enemy before they pick you off...but I just ended up with a handful of trucks at the end and a whole lot of metal and stranded soldiers along the road!

I'd be interested to hear of anyone who played it "like it should" and succeeded.

As it is, I think I'll take your advice and hold the trucks back until it's safer

  11. Maybe some SPOILERS in here for people who haven't played...

God - I am really very bored with this mission now.

First of all, let me say - I'm blaming no-one for my bad results on this except me...

Now that's out the way - it has to be one of the single most unbalanced missions I've seen in this franchise!

I've had missions where I've had Challengers, troops falling out the backs of Bradleys there are so many of them, and precious few any (seemingly in comparison)...with this mission, you get 12 trucks, 3 Scimitars, 3 Bradleys, 2 squads and an HQ unit...that's the lot and you are attacked from all sides and all angles with OpFor which seem to have AT coming out of their ears!

A plethora of OpFor trucks attack from the west, East, South...on top of all that, it seems impossible to drive over the bridge without hitting an IED.

As well as having to escort these trucks through hell, according to the results at the end, I have to use my meagre forces to take the village to the right...there's just not enough forces.

My first Bradley and Scimitar manage to stay on the top of the hill and pick off a lot of the OpFor that show in the beginning, but then they are quickly knocked out with the number of AT that show up...

Please - I beg you - can someone give me ideas on how to handle this mission?

What happens if I bypass it? Is it a shorter campaign? Is there a campaign mission list showing what leads to where?

  12. One of the Brit module missions in the campaign is called Sab Abar and I cannot get my trucks to the other end...or at least, not all of them.

I've tried going slow with both AFVs leading for protection - stopping in contact then continuing...I've tried hair arsing it down the roads...

For a start, the mission briefing isn't clear, as NOTHING is mentioned about the built up area to the right in the mission with regard to taking it, and yet it shows up on the stats at the end as a fail for me...(one reason why I really like the NATO module - the mission briefings are much clearer)

    Anyone got any tips?

  13. Yes, a print friendly version with white background and black text is also included in the installation file.

    Moon

Just asking whilst this is mentioned here - are there print friendly updated manuals for CMSF, Marines and Brits too?

I printed out the keys section of the main manual and it took an age to print 4 pages and they used a shed load of green ink...not to mention the paper was limp as it was so saturated

  14. Question - when in a Warrior and you have a spotter in there...and presumably he's using the warrior periscope thingy - do you select the warrior or the spotter for directing? Just wondering if the spotter (from inside the vehicle) is able to get eyes on target? I haven't tried it yet so don't know....

I'm thinking specifically if the Warrior is in the hull down position - your spotter is going to be even lower than the rise - so I was wondering if the spotter had the same LOS as the warrior?
