  1. Actually, in 10 more turns I would have probably been eliminated from the map completely.

BUT, in a more even game, turn 100 would proably be the time it would get really interesting in a 2 player game on a map of this size. I would look at the save from the other games and if they had 3 players, see how it worked out. If we only have 2 players per game, I would suggest making the map a little smaller, and leaving it at 100 turns.

100 turns is just about right as far as time goes. It allows a good amount of time, and can be finished in one sitting. So to allow for more combat to determine the winner I would put the players in a smaller map.

  2. My game was boring. I got 9 food resources the entire game, and only controlled 3 for the last half. I had to keep almost all of my cities producing wealth in order to buy food, and sometimes buy oil to prevent oil shortages,.................and still had shortages.

By the time my opponent and I had to fight, he had a few advancements, while I couldnt afford to put anymoney into research and had basically level 1 units. He had a heck of a lot more units, since I couldnt afford to feed the few I had, much less make any more.

Hopefully the map actually gives me a chance in the second round.

  3. Took 2 tries before I could get the uppdate. It said "server not available" on the first try. I trieds agains immediately and it worked, so something is up with the server,....maybe its really busy today or something.

As for the updater and what Brit is working on,...I saw some text fly bybefore it went to updating the EOS.exe,...but it was so fast I couldnt read a single word of it.

  4. Is there any way we can get a list of who has been accepted into the EOS tournament?

I signed up, and dont recall getting a confirmation e-mail. Its possible I got it and forgot, or that I deleted it by accident,...etc. Either way a list of those accepted will help those that sign up to know for sure they have been accepted into the tourney.

  5. Yeah, a time limit is set at the beginning of the game,..usually 24 hours. If your orders havent been submitted you do nothing that turn.

And I did link to the wrong game. dominate does require everyone to be on at the same time. There is another risk clone that does the daily turns.

  6. Far freakin out on the random opponents! Thanks so much. Among the various things about this game I love is the replayability (I.E. all the various random settings, every game is a completely different game). Not knowing how many are out there makes the initial exploring much more interesting.

And yes, if you go to the diplomatic screens you would see how many, but I don't need to visit that screen until much later in the game when most all of the exploring is completed.

Also, it will be nice to see the AI not camping out in our territories!

    Thanks again,

    KevinB

And there would be a good suggestion,...only show countries you have made visual contact with in the diplomatic screens.

  7. MAN2 is Massive Assaault Network 2.

I talked about the method in another thread, but I will post it again.

Basically the games info is kept on a server, presumably the same server as used to log in to either game. Once you log in, any games you have going are listed for you, and whether you have taken your turn in the current round or not. If you havent you can enter that game, and do your turn.

In the case of EOS, let me use an example game to describe how it would work. We have player A, player B, and player C.

Player A decides to start a game. Logs in and creates a game with whatever rules he desires. At this point the game is listed as open for people to join (he has it set at 3 players, so when 3 players have joined and entered their orders the game will start.). While the game is waiting for players,...he enters his orders and hits submit. He leaves the game and goes back into the lobby. After waiting 20 minutes he decides to log off.

Player B logs in to the lobby,...sees Player A's game with room for 2 more players, even though player A is logged off. He enters the game, and gives his orders and hits submit. He leaves the game and goes back into the lobby.

Player A logs back in sees that another player has joined his game,...but still not 3, so he cant do anything yet,....and logs off.

Player C logs in, sees player A's game with room for 1 more player and joins it. He enters his orders and hits submit. The game then processes the turn, and goes to turn 2,...and shows that all 3 players can now enter orders. Player C enters his orders and logs off...........

Player B logs in and sees that the game has advanced to turn 2, so joins it and enters his orders. He then leaves the game and logs off. etc etc......

  8. The game was worth it to me to buy because it has been a while since a game made me keep saying 'one more turn' and staying up entirely too late doing that 'one more turn'.

Also any developer that creates a good game,..supports it well, and listens to the community,........thats a developer that deserves our support,...and there is only one way to support a developer,....and thats by buying their games.

  9. I agree, BB's should fear subs. Naval combat is really close to rock, paper, scissors. Yes subs cost half as much as BB's, but are really only effective against large shpis. Cruisers should beat them,.....barely(as noted in the above post cruisers gained ASW ability over time),..and destroyers should outright own them. However the BB' should beat everything BUT subs, justifying their greater cost.

BB's are killed by air power and subs. BB's kill everything else.

Cruisers are killed by BB's and subs. BBs kill air power and destroyers and transports.

Destroyers are killed by all except subs. Destroyers are made to kill subs.

Subs kill BB's outright, beat cruisers by a little, and are owned by destoyers.

Aircraft carriers should be sitting ducks,....until their aircraft are brought into consideration.

Of course these are broad generalizations, for example.....modern cruisers come in different versions. Guided missle cruisers have decent anti air and strong anti ship capabilities. Standard cruisers are extremely strong against air targets, while still maintaining some anti ship capability. Both have decent ASW (anti sub warfare) capabilities.

  10. Sadly, I dont. I have enough parts lying around that I can replace things to see what the problem is. Hopefully someone else may know, as I am sure there is some way to find out. I think the BIOS has some voltage readings/settings,...but I have never learned anything about them to know what I was seeing.

EDIT- Just because the card is brand new doesnt mean it isnt defective. In fact, that would be my first suspect.............. but it could be a power issue. The power supply might not be failing....it just might be too small wattage wise.

  11. Im using those exact drivers(195.62) and dont have any issues. I did have a problem exactly like you are describing in a game before, and it turned out I was having a power supply issue. The newer drivers were causing my video card to use a little more power and my failing power supply wasnt giving it enough. Check to see how close your power supply is to meeting the minumum requirements for your new video card,...its possible your new card is using more power than your old card and your old power supply cant keep up. If it isnt that, IF possible check your video card and power supply to see if either is failing.

  12. Good point. I am glad that you reminded us that the topic of this thread is NOT

desired changes to the game. Oh wait, yes it is. My bad. I'll be quiet now.

No, not my intent at all. I am just saying too many changes, or too dramatic of changes could hurt the game more than help it.

  13. Guys,...each idea is good,...however, the game is already at the point where it is extremely fun, adding too much more is just going to make this another one of those games that isnt fun becasue of too much micromanagement.

If it isnt broke,...dont fix it.

Now maybe use some of these ides to make Mods....................................

  14. Ehm, there is no way of 'reloading turns' in a PBEM game when using the wego system (as EoS does). You send in your orders and receive the result from the host. Reloading your old turn wouldn't help.

Whoever the 'host' is, that is whoevers machine actually does the turn,....can reload and redo the turn until it gets the results they want,....so yeah it can still be done, just only by the host.

  15. Yeah thats what I was afraid of. Anyway thanks for listening,....I will be getting this game as soon as I can afford it. I have also spread the word a little about it in a guild that I

am in,...one person has already bought it, and another is probably going to get it,.....its definately an addicitng, 'one more turn' game.

  16. As far as PBEM:

I suppose one varation on that could be that the EOS game-server could hold people's updates and turn-submit-orders until the game-server is online. The data is actually quite small (in the first few turns of the game, it's 10K-20K per player for the turn-update, and about 2K for the player's orders being sent to the server). It does make things more complicated, though. For example, "declaring war" and "open-market trades" couldn't happen immediately.

This is kind of what I meant. The game would be saved on the same server used for the lobby (it might have to be upgraded a little), and would always be available whenever any player logged into the games MP lobby. However instead of having one player designated as the host, and them needing to be on to reslove the turn once all orders are in,..instead, make it so that when all turns are in whichever player submitted the last turn (and thus is the player online at that time) will be designated 'host' and their client will resolve the turn.

As for the 'declaring war' and 'open-market trades' the same issue will arise in PBEM I think. In fact this system is pretty much the same as PBEM except no emailing,.....so no reloading turns etc...

  17. Well, PBEM is an option, however there is another which could use the existing lobby. In other games I have played there have been games with daily or even weekly turns. You log in, do your turn, click submit, then dont need to do another turn for 24 hours or whenever the game has its daily deadline set at, unless yours was the last turn submitted for the turn, in which case you can go ahead and do your next turn after all moves and combat is resolved.

This way its possible to either have the game start whenever it is filled up even if all players arent present,...or for those who wish, a game can be started with all players present, played as normal for a while, THEN go to daily turns,.....etc.
