  1. In the mission where you have to assault the village containing the HQ, barracks and special forces building, I am unclear as to why I lost. The briefing said to "search" all 3 buildings. How are you supposed to search them? I had infantry run through all three locations.. but in the results screen it said I didn't meet any of the three objectives.
  2. After playing a bit more, I have one more suggestion: Give us the option to put "pause game" on the spacebar. I initially thought the hotkey "pause" meant "pause game". I was dismayed to find it meaning "pause unit orders".
  3. I've played about five battles at this point. I don't understand why the developer thinks that the current camera system is sufficient for what the game demands from the user. Why is the WASD camera so janky? I want to hold down the right mouse button to look around the battlefield while panning the camera smoothly along the XY plane with WASD. As the system currently works, I can look around with severe mouselag by holding down the right button. If I want to scroll the camera around the XY plane, it's constantly jumping and stalling as I hold the key in the direction I want to scroll in. Holding down the left mouse button while moving the mouse gives the smoothest panning of the viepoint... but I want to rotate and pitch the camera view at the same time. It's almost a regression into how people played Doom when they first encountered 3D. They could rotate the camera anywhere they wanted to, but they had to hold down the right button if they wanted to "strafe" the camera laterally left or right. Give us 1:1 "mouselook" while holding down the right mousebutton - with no "smoothing" (lag) of the mouse movements. And make the "WASD" react in a consistent manner (I hold the key down, it moves at a constant rate). EDIT: Please don't write this off by saying this is a request of a "hyperactive RTS g4m3r n00b". I've been playing computer strategy games since Kampfgruppe on the Apple ][+ (and then through Panzer Strike and it's modern adaptation Overrun. I've been through my share of bad UIs) I loved the previous Combat Mission games, as well as the latest Steel Panthers releases. Please give us smooth WASD camera control. Thank you. 4. The game is fortunately very alt-tab friendly. I keep the PDF open to the unit guide and switch to it when I need reference.
  5. How do you "area target" with a stryker? I can only target and target arc... My strykers will not fire the grenade launchers no matter what I do. Close in, far away, buttoned, unbuttoned...
  6. I think the best case scenario would be a time acceleration option (which would be useful in realtime mode as well). As for the rewind, one solution could be this: When watching a turn resolve, you can pause and rewind at any time. If you pause or rewind, the computer continues to calculate the realtime turn in the background. This would allow you to rewind and fast forward up to the point where the turn is actually resolving. It would behave like a Tivo. This would be fairly processor intensive, and I don't know if the engine would even have the hooks to support it.
  7. I've seen some good suggestions in the first impressions thread. Thought I'd start a thread to keep them all in one place. Mine so far: Have a "camera modifier" key that puts the mouse into left-hold and right-hold camera modes. For instance, holding down CTRL (or whatever) acts just like holding down the left mouse button. ALT could act as right mouse button. Give the option to make these toggles (tap once to get in, tap again to get out) or hold modifiers (hold to retain mode). The reason I say this is that constantly holding down a mouse button can get very tiresome. Also, the slight delay when the game waits for the mouse to enter "camera" mode eventually grates on the nerves. Also, it would be REALLY nice to have smoother WASD camera control. Implementing Total Wars' system would be fantastic, where holding down shift makes the camera move even faster. EDIT: To bring this even further, the best possible scenario is to give an FPS "fly" cam. Where you would have a toggle key to put mouse into "mouselook" mode (turns the viewpoint left/right/up/down) whereas WASD "pans" the camera with a shift modifier to make it pan faster (as it behaves right now, but without all the weird speed up and slow downs that current plagues it). This would give fantastic and precise control of the camera. Finally, a way to quickly mount/dismount large groups of troops. Throwing them all into Strykers at the beginning of a scenario takes a very long time. [ July 27, 2007, 03:05 PM: Message edited by: flyinj ]
  8. Something I'd really like to see for the camera controls: Have a "camera modifier" key that puts the mouse into left-hold and right-hold camera modes. For instance, holding down CTRL (or whatever) acts just like holding down the left mouse button. ALT could act as right mouse button. Give the option to make these toggles (tap once to get in, tap again to get out) or hold modifiers (hold to retain mode). Also, it would be REALLY nice to have smoother WASD camera control. Implementing Total Wars' system would be fantastic, where holding down shift makes the camera move even faster.
  9. What is the correct term to use to map the "spacebar" in the hotkeys.txt file? I've tried "space" and "spacebar", neither have worked. Also, is there a way to see all unit waypoints on the screen at once? Thanks-
  10. How exactly does the elicense work on this? I'm at work right now, and want to check the game out. However, I'll mainly be playing at home. Can I have the game installed at two locations, as long as only one is being used at a time?
