    TACOPS PROBLEM

I sent this message to MAJORH. Has anyone else had a similiar problem? if so, any suggestions? MAJOR H, I have been having problems with launching TACOPS4. The program does not launch after clicking on the tacops4.EXE ahortcut. Yet, when I bring up Program Manager, it shows that TACOPS4 is running. (NOTE: IF I bring up TACOPS after rebooting the PC. it works fine;if I check my e-mail or go online first, it will not launch.) I recently installed PATCH V406AE, BUT this problem existed prior to installing the patch. I've also REPAIRED TACOPS by going through ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS WINDOWS 98 SE is my os; the PC has 256 MB of RAM. and, I've had numerous other problems not related to TACOPS, most of which now seem to be resolved. Any suggestions, besides:' get rid of that 5 year old piece of sh*t and get a new computer'?(WHICH IS PROBABLY THE ANSWER!)
  2. Try this. It'a a 'workaround'.Start with a clean map- no units at all. Then, select your 'off board'units and task organize them just as you need them to be when they enter the game. Set each unit in it's starting location. Ensure that you have selected ENABLE UMPIRE TOOLS under OPTIONS.Then, under FILE select EXPORT ORDER OF BATTLE.You'll have to then select BLUE, RED, etc; select a folder to store the OOB files];name the files(eg BLUE_0730)and save them. At that point, you can delete the units from the map and select and position yout STARTEX units. Of course, if you want to phase the units in (eg 0710; 0715; 0730, etc.) you'll have to create and save a seperate OOB for each. Then, when you're running the game, you manually select IMPORT ORDER OF BATTLE under FILE when the units are scheduled to appear;go to the folder where you've store the file, highlight the file and hit OPEN. Then, select ON MAP and hit OK. The units will then appear at the locations you selected during set up.(You also have th eoption of putting them in a DEPLOYMENT WINDOE.)The OOB files are saved as an EXCEL file. You can edit the files, rename units, add units, etc. One thing to keep in mind- if you've set SOPs or given orders during set up, they won't survive this process. I've task organized various USMC and US ARMY Task Forces and the only problem I've had is that, if you load personnel aboard a vehicle (eg a scout team on a HMMWV and then load it aboard a helo or an MV-22, some of the personnel 'disappear'. Once you get used to playing around with the OOB function, it's not as hard as it sounds. You can save an OOB and use it for different scenarios. Just try it with a clean map to start with, so if you mess up you won't ruin your scenario. Any questions? E-mail me. CARLWD

MAJH, As a start, why not assume that the HMMWV with the MK19, the M-2 .50 cal, and the 7.62 (M1025/M1026) are basically the same vehicle as the M996 TOW HMMMWV. The should have the same 5/5/5 as the TOW HMMWV. Then, using references (including manufacturer's propaganda) extrapolate for the later variants (eg M1114). Probably less than an LAV-25 or a STRYKER. (That's how I'd probably handle it if I were building (or modifying) a piece of equipment in, say, BBS or JANUS, given the limited amount of changes that we can make at the Battle Simulation Center level. Check out this link as a start- http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/hmmwv.htm Enjoy TACOPS- BUT I think you SERIOUSLY overmodeled the OPFOR light anti- armor weapons and the lethality of their MANPADS, especially against attack helicopters. Belated Happy 229th Marine Corps Birthday! Semper fi
