  1. It is returned. Mace I'll have you know that I am Adelaidean by birth, and thus that all insults mentioning smell, multiple heads or sisters are null and void. Call me 'Crow-Eater', if you must. Your profile says that you live in 'Australia'. Presumably this lack of detail is due to the fact that you are ashamed to say exactly where you live. What could be more shameful than living in Tasmania, I wonder? Living in Qld.? Melbourne?

  3. No. Cross a rat with a pitbull, paint it black and make it die of an obscure disease that no-one understands, and you've got yourself a Devil. They're a bit disappointing, actually.

  5. No, you may not. In the time I have been watching this board, I have seen this ancient, undead thread continue to fester. Every now and then it explodes in a shower of puss, only to emerge as a new but still evil excresence from the mess of blood and flacid flesh that was its last incarnation. This thread makes entirely too much mess as it is without some upstart with a member number so absurdly high that it dwarfs even mine coming in and randomly vomiting everwhere. You are a fly among these clumps of dung. I hate you. I challenge you to a game on the eastern front. You will accept because you know that it is the only challenge you will get here. If you do not have the eastern front game, you will buy it. Your troops will perish horribly under my fell blows, but you will learn to enjoy it, because my wrath is the only attention of another human being you will find here.

  7. I tried an experiment similar to this not long ago, using first vanilla shermans and then t-34/85 m43s in CMBB v 1.3, with the tanks firing at first 500 and then 300m against dug-in targets. The Jagdpanzer IV and Hetzer seemed to do equally well against shermans, though GtuG IIIGs did substantially more poorly than either. Strangely, the kill probability for a t-34/85 against a Hetzer read 'none', though if the tank was manually given a Hetzer as a target it would fire and often kill on the first hit.
  8. "There has been questions from Jane's reporters if this kind on weapons are still usable nowadays, against modern armor types. Answer: Yes they are, with ease. But the soldiers are instructed to use gloves against reactive armor. The race between armor and AT-weapons is ruthless." That alone was worth it. Thanks.
  9. Sergei Thanks! Pretty much what I expected, but still hard to believe. Snarker And this world is the poorer for their loss, I'm sure.
  10. I've been running into references to Überfinns with toothpicks and pinecones on this forum for about a year now. I need to know: What started this madness?
  11. I heard that they were mostly finished but couldn't find a publisher. A great pity.
  12. He played Stars!?! Ach, Gott in Himmel! That is so cool. Stars! was cool. Mmm, Stars...
  13. The 204th Pz. Rgt. (22nd Panzer Division) served there, I think.
  14. Thanks for the responses. Due to ad-hoc recruitment, training cut short, and time spent enlisted but not in combat training (now that you've mentioned it, Sergei, I can find examples of this), the whole process seems to have been so haphazard during the war that there might not be any detailed, definative answers.
  15. Yes, we are, and yes, I do want more information. I have been looking at the memoirs section of the Russian Battlefield site, and it seems that most of the veterans report a standard training period of about three or four months, but people who served as riflemen were somtimes rushed to the front much earlier. So I may have partially answered my own question. I had thought that those "when the man with the gun is killed, pick up the gun" stories were exaggeration, but I just read an account of a guy being drafted in year eight into a militia unit in which there was one rifle and one sabre for every five men. There must have been a few left over from Zhukov's cavalry days.
  16. I have been wondering about unit training, specifically the training of Soviet troops. I know that specialist Soviet units (e.g. ski, engineers, possibly cavalry) are supposed to have recieved 'superior' training compared to most units, but what does this actually mean? I remember reading somewhere that German units recieved 16 weeks' training initially (which I suppose would make them regulars, in game terms), and then 8 weeks' later on in the war (which would make them greens). If anybody can provide information on the training of various kinds of Soviet units, and perhaps comment on how this would be represented in the game, I would be extremely grateful.
