  1. If you are running on a Windows XP machine, try doing the following:

    1. Right-click on the icon for "Down in Flames" and select the "Properties" menu item.

    2. Click on the "Compatibility" tab and make sure the "Compatibility mode" check box is NOT checked. In fact none of the check boxes on this screen should be checked.

  2. The original idea is that we would do an Eastern Front expansion pack and then do a Med. Front expansion pack that would bring in Italy and France. It could still happen, but it isn't being actively worked on right at the moment.

  3. If you don't have the expansion pack, you can still play against players who do have the expansion pack. What happens is you will see a "generic" aircraft instead of the actual aircraft animations.

I think activity for online games has slowed down lately, but you should still be able to find opponents. Maybe some of the regulars can tell you if there are certain days of the week and/or times of the day that tend to have more people playing.

  4. The skills list is misleading because the Target Pilot skill is not really expendable, but it is not exactly permanent either.

When you use the Target Pilot skill, it does not get expended and go away to be repurchased. However, unlike other "permanent" skills, it does not increase in cost (or cause other permanent skills to increase in cost) when you purchase it. It is always 100 XP each time you buy it.

Of all the skills, it is probably the most controversial because players hate losing their pilots.

  5. That is probably only temporary. Matt is in the process of backing things up in preparation for a reinstall. Unless Matt had a breakthrough in removing the crap the hackers put on the machine, I don't think we're out of the woods yet.

  6. Impossible to tell who did it or why. Last time this happened was right after an update from Microsoft had been installed which contained a vulnerability. As soon as hackers learn that some vulnerability exists, they write programs that search the internet for servers with the vulnerability and exploit it. Chances are, thousands of servers are hit through this automated process and the Battlefront server just happened to be one of them. It is less likely, although possible, that someone specifically targeted Battlefront.

  7. As some of you have probably noted, the server was up briefly yesterday but appears to be down again today. Matt is looking into it, but it is possible he will have to wipe the server and reinstall everything. If so, it could be down for several days. We'll keep you posted.
