I'm thinking smoke here. A total smoke screen that when clears reveals an army of flamethrowers ready to toast you! Wouldn't work would it... Damn.

Instead of starting a new thread I'll just ask here. What is ROW IV?

Hi theike. Glad to see you back.
I support your q. I have 17 unposted maps lying around on my comp.
Are looking forward to see you tackle the CMAK terrain elements. I hate the loss of the factory in favour of the sandbags and the removal of the steppe terrain type, but you can't have it all can you.
Cheers!

What tanks? Heavy or something weak like pzIV?Originally posted by phil stanbridge:I think fast recon would be in order here, so a crack company of SMG troops transported by AFV's, ht's etc, some 20mm haltracks too.
Snipers, and heavy artillery up front, and I'd split some squads for recon right on the front line.
Then I'd follow up with as much armour as one could afford with the remaining points.

Consider a QB 3000 points you attack as the axis on a map sized about 2000x2000, mid day, october 1944, chunks of open terrain but also lots of wooded areas and some bridges to cross. Forces are combined arms and you have no clue about your opposition. What forces would you buy?
-
What I mean is that you may want to place a trench piece in a really narrow patch of open surrounded by paved road/pavement. In order to be able to do so you can place the trecnh so that it overlaps the pavement. You will not do the mistake of putting down trences on paved streets more than once but you will be able easely fit a trench anywhere close to pavement. Hence I find it to be a feature.
-
Feature. You can place trenches so that they overlap paved road but the part of the trench that do that disapear when you start to play. Still good to be ably to place trenches in the areas between paved roads.

Aw... I will never get hold of that movie, can't you please tell me a little more about it (especially the equipment)... Please... Pretty please...

Slow RAM (including its bus architecture) makes a big difference in a computer since the processor will have to run empty cycles waiting for the RAM to respond. If you want to test the speed of your processor only write a little program in a language of choice that does 10 different mathematical calculations 10000 times or so.
-
Might be the RAM but it might also be because of what programs you run in the background. The video card has nothing to do with it thats for sure.

How about a function that picks out the most bang for the buck units? You enter the 200 points you have left to buy for and ask for the biggest badass gun you would be able to buy for it. And out comes top 3 suggestions.
No problem right?

I've read accounts of armor firing up into the tree tops to create tree bursts. Is this modelled in CM as well or is it just artillery fire that creates this effect in wooded tiles?

I for one would love to see comments along the lines of: "Usable in dence terrain but lack in ammo load out" "Fast and manouverable but a bit undergunned" "Avoid this crap despite the big gun" (could be a nashorn although it doesn't reflect my view on that part. unit) "Good bunker buster if you get it within reasonable range (maybe the AVRE?)"Originally posted by Dandelion:Date of introduction is listed on Folkes site. On each unit. The Crusaders arrive in September 42 it says.
No date of departure from OOB though. Well, none that I saw just now anyway.
Dates on availability - appearing and disappearing - are listed for ammo types I see.
But what to comment? It's all there really. What more would a QB player consider valuable information Folke?
Cheerio

I honestly don't have a clue... SorryOriginally posted by Poppy:HI Europa, I was hoping that the PIAT was more effective or at least more available. Poppy

Mainly because they are british which in effect means that they are conservative to their death and never changes anything that have worked once before.Originally posted by Poppy:Question, Why did the British use the PIAT instead of the Bazooka?? Poppy

With the unit delays in CM speed and manouver is overrated. It can be used I admit but one needs to be lucky in the extreme, or have and idiot opponent. That sounded harsh... Sorry... How do you do it then? The speed and manouver thing I mean?

I now realise that I did everything wrong in that game I had more flamethrower positions at the back of the buildings "in case the first line falls" ROFL
Cheers!

My own comp is in limbo at the moment so I can't get to it either As soon as I get a new place setup I will send it to you so that we can continue our gamesOriginally posted by Other Means:well, here's a guess:
the infantry was in cover (buildings). yes it was the same cover as yours but i'm not sure that makes a difference. plus it was a whole platoon. plus the greens went in first followed closely by two squads of vets. plus they were fresh & hadn't been fired upon. all this coupled with their faith in their general made them hard to pin, therefore your FT's broke & ran.
if i was going to use the FT's individually like that, i'd have had them "hide" by the closest wall to the advance, with a 30m cover arc. that way you get enough cover differential to maybe pin all the attackers. at least to get a couple more bursts off. but generally it's a bad idea to use any unit in a position where it can't be supported.
(i can't find the autobahn map BTW)
Sorry about that.
-
Enemy walk in through the door, flamethrower fires, enemy scream WTF, gun him down and continues his advance.
-
Ah yes Gary I know... Can we hold that one for a month? I have no stable connection at the moment.
-
More sound fx. Tank turrets traversing, AFVs bouncing over the terrain making nice sounds etc. IMHO the sounds are more important than the graphics.

After half a bottle of scotch it comes to me. i have never played CMAK as anything else but the germans and the occasional late war brits. So I fire the game up and land in the unit purchase phase. The americans have NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I MEAN NOTHING to choose from. Why do people even try to play with such few options. It's all shermans for christs sake. Or am i missing something here?

In a recent PBEM I tried to defend a small town which was built like an open 'court yard' surrounded by large buildings by putting flamethrowers in the far end of each building. The idea was that when enemy infantry would enter they wouldn't notice the flamethrowers until it was too late.
What did I do wrong?
maps needed?...

I try to aviod making scenarios these days since I only screw up nice maps by placing units on them. Any unused maps you have you can send me and I'll make nice cutouts, trying to identify normal objectives, and setupzones on them for ya
Tell me when you have a good solution for the barrack tiles. I try to use heavy buildings at the moment.
I normally produce a few maps a week, but currently I am having break. As soon as I get a decent number of them I'll post a zip somewhere with them cathegorized after battle type and such.
Send me your first ones when finished with them so i can take a look, ok?
Cheers!
