  1. Dan Verssen:

Great response. The first line almost made me fall out of my chair. :D Did you mean that seriously, sarcastically, or a little of both?

By the way, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE 'GETTING IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME' philosophy (as much as that can be achieved). I can think of many companies which make games and patch them ad nauseum. That stinks. BFC has done a great job of keeping that stuff to a minimum and it is a sign of their serious attention to excellence across the board. I can wait for the best possible product (though, admittedly, with my feet tapping anxiously at about 90 taps per minute. ;)

  2. Thanks for the helpful responses, Slappy. You made me happy because with your answers you were snappy. Your a fine chappy. Alright, enough already. It must be Friday. :D

By the way, I thought the same about those pie charts. They would be about 500 mgbts to have on the disc! They sure would be a nice reference aid though (instead of all that unit highlighting and hitting of the enter keys, and then the mental calculations and estimations). Can't have everything I guess!

  3. Two questions, men:

    1. how are points scored for determining end game results? For e.g., are the points which are assigned to units in the QB purchase tables the amount of points lost if you lose that particular unit in any given battle? A destroyed truck is not worth as much as a destroyed Tiger, right? Well, where are the points for each unit found?

    2. I see in the "Combat Mission tips and other 'goodness'" thread there are pie graphs with various colored arcs showing penetration ability of different weapons vs. various (armored) targets. Are these on the Combat Mission discs?! I would love to look at them if they are. Please advise.

  4. Puppchen and Spears: precisely. I was downhill Spears (with my STUG) and it never entered my mind that he was firing basically at ZERO degree slope! That really explains it.

Yes, I felt I needed to "force the issue" with the STUG, Puppchen. You described exactly what was happening in my first CMBO game back in January: bogged down attack with the infantry being whittled away by 105mm artillery and MG fire. However, I thought I WAS at a safe distance with respect to the zook team. Like I said, a learning experience. Man, I love these games, all 3 of them!

  5. Thanks, Slappy. Actually, I was asking on behalf of a friend who steam-rollered Me!! I hammered him in the opening battle of the CMBO "Mortain" Operation. However, he returned the favor in the last (2nd) battle and wanted to know if he should just "keep on advancing" (i.e., off the map). Now I know the answer. THANKS!

  6. Thanks, Lt., but the chief question I wanted answered is in regard to how far to go on the map in a given battle. In other words, if you wipe the other guy out and get to the map's edge, do you keep driving OFF OF THE MAP? or just sit and wait for the turns to play out?

  7. Herr Schrullenhaft and JunkDrive: you guys nailed it!

Herr: great job once again. The GeForce FX 5200 is a perfect upgrade for the Dell Dim 2400 and a drastic improvement over the intergrated graphics chip that came with the box. I've got Fog and all. I'm one happy camper.

Thanks for pointing me back to the CMBO folder JunkDrive. Honestly, I had checked it earlier in the day and somehow just looked right past it in the window!! So, going back, there it was. Deleted it and WALLAH!!! Perfect graphics for CMBO too! THANKS A LOT GUYS. Me and my 9 year old (he's in training) had a GREAT time tonight with a small QB - armor only. He was delighted to flank and destroy a Tiger and STUG for the loss of only 1 Sherman. We were playing in heavy fog (his request!). Great time. Thanks again. He even commented on how clear the screen was and he's never even played computer games before. Keep up the good work gents.

  8. Well, I finally got a card to work in my Dell Dim 2400. The onboard integrated graphics were terrible.

The GF FX 5200 is a significant improvement, Herr Schrullenhaft - in CMBB and CMAK. But the graphics in CMBO are worse! Especially for the terrain. Lots of little green and yellowish blocks instead of the smoother texture I saw previously using the onboard graphics. WHY IS THIS? Again, the CMBB and CMAK graphics ARE BETTER with the 5200. Why not with CMBO? It's too bad, because I play CMBO with my son (he's learning CM). So I really wanted better graphics for him when we play a network battle. PLEASE HELP. THANKS!!

  9. How far should you drive on a map during an operation? In other words, if you are wiping the opponent out and have reached the opposite end of the map in battle 2 out of 6, should you plot waypoints OFF of the map in preparation for the next battle and the continuation of the "drive" on your goal (the other end of the contiguous map)? Or should you just sit tight on the map's edge and wait for the beginning of the next battle? The manual isn't clear on this as far as I can tell unless I've missed something.
